Who has heard her speak the other languages? Ms Jeantel is the product of slavery in the Americas. There are many young boys & men in my neighborhood who cannot read and write very well but you wouldn't know it to hear them talking. |

She is a 19 year old senior who everyday lives in an environment where everyone shares the same culture and slang. He'll my little sister just got out of that phase and she TyP3 l1k3 Dis on h3r Tw1tt3r. "And she be talkin like diiis" She is now 24 in college studying business. And bilingual in both Spanish and English. You can't sit there and judge someone off how the talk in their teens. Still growing out of your ways, some people get it early some dont get it till they face real life and others don't get it all. For all we know, this experience might make her realize it and focus on it. |

They stated it. What, did you want her to speak another language on the stand? |

Excellent analysis. Please understand that professional people who give interviews, make college admissions decisions, etc, only see a snippet of a person by reading their resume and the actual interview. When looking through thousands of resumes and applications they look for anything to disqualify a candidate. It's not feasible to interview hundreds of candidates. Her status as a minority female might get her a second look, or even an interview, but with so many qualified applicants for jobs and slots in college, an interview with that type of cultural slang might end up being very short. Yes, she is product of her environment, but it's a environment of people who might not climb too high on society's ladder. We could say that it's unfortunate that the white-collar world is so professional, but that's the reality for the most part. Everyone may not be able to speak perfect "proper English", but everyone can strive to speak better English and increase the number of opportunities they experience in life. Is it remotely possible that the outcome of the trial might have changed if she dazzled the jury with grace and eloquence of Condoleezza Rice? Does it suck that our credibility is linked to our fluency with proper English? Hell yes! Does it suck that innocent blacks are found guilty and guilty whites are found innocent because black witnesses don't bother to "play the game" by the white man's rule? Again, hell yes! If your freedom was on the line, or the freedom of a family member's killer was on the line, who would you want as the key witness: Rachel Jeantel or someone who sounds like Secretary Rice? Do you want your witness being true to his/her culture, or playing the game to get you justice? Edited by Affinity, Jul 17 2013, 03:40 PM.

I got the impression that she had not been coached. Her lawyers should have stressed that in a courtroom, the opposing lawyers will be relentless with their questioning and that is standard procedure. I think she started taking all this questioning personally, and as a result ending up saying things like implying the lawyer was retarded. Edited by Brodanny, Jul 17 2013, 04:08 PM.

MIAMI (CBS4) – Rachel Jeantel opens up about her friendship with Trayvon Martin, calling him a good and true friend. “He’s got an energy that makes you laugh, he’s real funny, and I like that in a person,” Jeantel said. “Trayvon never judged me, because I always had an under bite. It’s an under bite I need to get done. He never judged. He just said ‘oh, okay, that ain’t no problem’.” But it became a problem for her while testifying during George Zimmerman’s murder trial. Jurors found her hard to understand. How she spoke was part of the reason for the firestorm of criticism she received about her testimony. Her attitude toward Defense Attorney Don West contributed as well. “I was attacked,” she explained. “I knew I was going to be attacked, but I didn’t know it was going to be that much of an attack!” Jeantel says those caustic interactions with West were, to a degree, sparked by his repeated requests for her to speak louder. “Don West knows why I cannot speak up. He knows why, and I had told him when we did the interview at first,” said Jeantel. “I told him I have a voice problem. They say it’s my tonsils acting up.” But after praying about it, she faced West and the jury anyway because her friendship with Trayvon meant too much to her to do otherwise. “Trayvon’s situation, I’ve learned something from that, live your life to the fullest ‘cuz you don’t ever know what will happen.” What’s next for Rachel Jeantel? “My education is first. I am educated. Trust me, I have a 3.0 I’m good. I need to get my life straight because this situation got a whole lot of things in my mind so I want to clear it up.” Jeantel has been offered multiple scholarship opportunities, including one from morning radio talk show host Tom Joyner, who has offered her a tutor to help her graduate and to prep for the SAT and four years of tuition to any Historically Black College or University. http://s1.zetaboards.com/Express_Yourself/topic/5184184/1/#new Edited by LadyBug1, Jul 17 2013, 04:09 PM.

You don't need to explain what professional people do In interviews. I interview people at my job. Would I hire someone that speaks like RJ? Not in my line of work, since communication and being professional is key. But I have hired people who type that same dumb shit in their face books, just like that with shortcuts. But they know how to act here..... RJ prolly can't switch into professional mode "yet" but if she is willing to try she can easily do it. She obviously has the intelligence to handle 3 languages. Who am I or you to put a limit on her??? She is in a very important phase of her life...and I think this incident may change her mindset. |

The point I'm making is that you and I aren't the ones putting limitations on her. Let's hope so. Edited by Affinity, Jul 17 2013, 04:40 PM.

You put a limit on her when you posted her social media post as though she wasn't intelligent. You put a limit in her when you feel a dumb nigger can't tell no truth |
