Americans need to STOP making it easy to track and monitor. Get off Facebook and don't buy Smartphones. You give up too much info.

Hello????, a regular cell phone can be spied on too. Either way, you haven't lived until you have a smartphone. Facebook, I check it once a day.

Put your money where your mouth is folks:
WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Declassify and Discontinue Government Surveillance of Phone Records and Internet Activity
We believe that--

The Fourth Amendment prohibits unwarranted surveillance of electronic data;

Secret warrants are appropriate on a case-by-case basis, but no secret court order can create a general surveillance regime;

Rampant government secrecy, even with internal checks and balances, defeats the principle of government by the people, so oversight conducted in secret is grossly inadequate;

Publicizing the scope of surveillance programs may make criminals more difficult to catch, and we accept that risk.

We therefore request that the President--

Suspend the PRISM program and collection of Verizon metadata; and

Declassify the procedures and legal basis for these surveillance programs, so that the American people may review them and exercise our fundamental right to self-government.

Obama did say that he is open to the surveillance debate. But for now, the American people are on his side for now. ;)
I'm American and I'm not for this. It's been going on since 9/11 and he's just gone along with it. I'm disappointed though I can see the value of having the info. Nonetheless, its an invasion of my privacy because I haven't been accused of anything illegal or even questionable.

This blanket surveillance is too much.
And you haven't been accused of blowing up or hijacking airplanes, yet you have to go through a security search when you are at the airport. So what's the difference in that privacy?
The difference is:

They are using it as a tool. They not do a security search on everyone who walks into an airport, nor every car that parks on its lots, nor every vehicle within a twenty mile radius.

Surveillance is, and should continue to be a tool, used on an as needed basis. There is no justification for the electronic version of wiretapping by a government upon its citizens.

I'm going to design a t-shirt for real: Surveillance is a tool, not a culture.
Link to purchase it to follow. ^_^
Well if the NSA and U.S. government was indeed wiretaping all Americans, then don't you think they would have caught those two brothers before they set off those bombs in Boston?
wtg, this may be difficult for you to engage in but the government didn't even need wiretaps for the boston guys. The Russians gave us the info. So why didn't anything happen even knowing that info?
Still, with the info given to the U.S. by the Russians our government didn't tap their phones. So the NSA isn't snooping on all Americans.

There could be lots of reasons for this fact.

But it may prove part of the problem. Too much data coming in.
They don't need my posts from AFN where I maybe said something crazy....
Be more focused to get the job done.

Ummm, I'm not one of your obamabot friends. Try and convince them of your delusions. B-)

If they're going to wiretap to this degree, the least they can do is use it to capture criminals who have been able to hide from justice. There should be far less cold cases, if they're spying on everyone.

Don't understand the mind-set here they have been doing it for how long" and supposedly nobody knew. Now all of a sudden it's shocking to think that it's happening. The company you work for spies on your e-mails, records some of your phone calls and you don't know which ones. And if you're not doing anything "wrong" what's to be concerned about?

I suppose you're right. I think the problem is that we have been assuming that we had some level of privacy and freedom. This is the United States, afterall. Work is one thing, but your home is your sanctuary.

There's been conspiracy theorists saying crazy things, and now we learn that they aren't that far off.

Reminder: when did all of this shit really start? Do you really believe the govt is spying on you. Well what about the Satellites that can hone in on your living room When did that start? I have never seen so many instantly, willingly have an incessant need to blame one person for all of this shit that's been going on for years. Where's the ability to pick out the almost truth and the out and out lies? You are aware that the media informs you in the way they want to inform you.

Saw an article this morning....the location of the NSA was put on the internet with a picture of the building.....now why in the hell does the world need to know this? Talk about security breeches.....damn.
