What's your opinion Nat?
I'm glad that you asked for my opinion, my opinion is the U.S. Government can kiss my ass. I would never go to war and fight for the U.S. Government.

Black Democrats are some of the dumbest people that I've ever seen in my life. Those House Negros want to go fight and die for their masters.

If a REPUBLICAN had come up with a bill like that you would never hear the end of it.

It's bad enough that the Democrats are making it mandatory that everybody buy health insurance, now they want to make it mandatory for everybody to be drafted in the military.

A case can be made that all these wars, all of them are unnecessary. In the case of the US, especially those waged in the past 60 years.

On a certain level what he's proposing makes a sort of sense. Based off of various news articles on the subject his appears his belief is that those who do serve in the military are treated like shit when they return. I can see that. It looks like he wants everyone to try a stint in the military, at least 2 years, to somewhat try and alleviate that. The other options are Americorps and Peace Corps. He also thinks it would strengthen the populaces love for their country vice shitting on the flag.

While I understands where he is coming from and what he is trying to achieve he won't be able to get it by forcing young people into either a service or the Peace/AmeriCorps. When most young people are forced into something, especially during their teenage years and slightly after, they start to rebel just to rebel, regardless if it helps or hinders them.

Another issue would be turnover. Some people stay in the military for 3, 4, 5 years. Some stay for 30. But with the influx of people in the military what you would see is senior military members, especially on the enlisted side, being kicked out sooner. Which means they are less likely to pass along whatever they've learned. which means every few years you'll get a brand new military of people who don't know what the hell is going on and when they finally get their hands wrapped around it they'll be kicked out to make room for more. Pointless.

Rangel should know better. You can force people to do things but they tend to fight against it. If he wanted every person in the country to spend some time in the military it would be better if he found a way to convince the people themselves that though they have the freedom to say no that it is in their best interest to give at least a couple of years to their country. There are ways to present something as "freedom of choice" when in reality they had no choice to begin with. Commercials are good at that.
