That is something that does not get much attention in the Black community. Our mentality and what we think about ourselves and our lives. There is a great saying that mirrors what Malcolm X said in that the white man had taught us to hate ourselves. We have no history, no culture and no lineage, it has made us hate ourselves, hate our features, hate our color and hate our children and our parents. We are in a continual state of low self esteem and self hatred and we never address it. |

Malcolm X was full of crap. I don't hate myself and I know my family history very well. Malcolm X said a lot of shit to get people to join the nation of Islam before his rebirth |

Of course you dont hate yourself ---at least not your Caucasian Heritage-- since You're a lightskinned-racist, in a White Man's country; that would be the equivalent of a darkskinned-NI99ER hating being successful in Nigeria. Edited by The SOLE Controller, Feb 15 2013, 12:22 PM.

There is nothing that politicians can do, because they can't legislate and enforce anti-gun violence legislation. |

Easy fix. 1) If someone commit a crime with a firearm, and if convicted make it a mandatory three year sentence to run consecutive with the sentence for the underlying crime. 2) Allow for a citizen to obtain a permit to carry a firearm and protect themselves. 3) Identify career criminals, and enhance any and all cases on them, take them to trial, and demand the maximum time. 4) Use broken window theory of policing in high crime area's with a vew to return to normal policing. |

None of that will work with thugs. Criminals don't care about going to jail. The career criminals are already pretty much known by respective police forces, in a lot of states you can already carry a firearm, that won't make a difference because in cities like Chicago there are very few innocent people being killed. It's bad guys killing bad guys. Those ideas would work if thugs and gang bangers were rational people but they aren't |

Kenny I understand you positions... My experience has been different though. Thugs may or may not care about going to jail... But having them off the street for as long as possible will make neighborhoods safer States that allow people to defend themselves with a firearm is they choose will result in less violent crime. Municipalities that deny paople arms tend to be more violent. Like Chicago, and Detroit. and to some degree NY. In the last 20 or so years the violent crime rate in NYC had gone down as compared to other big cities that have similar problems. Contrary to popular belief it wasnt Guliani cleaning up NY. In fact it started before his tenure as mayor. The Vera Institute of Justice, the John Jay college of Criminal Justice conducted a study of the NYPD, and the NY court system, and came away with several interesting facts. Most usefull of all was that 70% of all violent crime was commited by a relatively small group of individuals. The second was that the individual NYPD officers were doing sloppy police work that resulted in the release of a high % of those arrested for violence. The result was establishing a career criminal program. THis is what curbed NY violence. It took a few years until results showed, but it worked well until Gulianni, and Safer started messing with it. I can detail how it works in a seperate post if you like. The broken window theory of policing is basically the police department address the smaller quality of life issues in a community as well as the more obvious ones. The police must allow the community to be their partners in policing, and respond to the communities needs and requests. |

There's no evidence that carry laws reduce crime. In fact Alaska which has no restrictions in gun ownership has one the highest incidences of of rape in the country. In fact of the 10 most dangerous places to live in America, 4 of them are in shall issue states where it's easy to acquire a firearm legally. Also as I stated before most of the murders in Chicago aren't innocent people. It's thugs killing other thugs with the occasional innocent getting in the way. As I said nice idea if you were dealing with rational people |
