3 million jobs with good salaries go unfilled

The truth of the matter is, that many DON'T have marketable skills, thus, no jobs!

There are more than 12 million people actively looking for work at a time when more than 3 million jobs are going unfilled across the country.

Though that's still only one job for every three job seekers, the real problem is there's a disconnect between skill sets and job openings.

Many of the job openings that are going unfilled require you to go back to school to get more education. Or they may be in fields you have no interest in whatsoever. Having said that, here's a partial list of the kinds of jobs that are available, along with average starting salary:

Petroleum engineers start at $85,000
Senior landmen start at $55,000
Software engineers start at $60,000
Electrical engineers start at $60,000
Mechanical engineers start at $55,000
Software developers start at $55,000
Financial analysts start at $50,000
Communication coordinators start at $35,000
Marketing coordinators start at $35,000
Certified public accountants start at $45,000

Continuing education is core to our future as a nation. You've got to morph yourself over time to fit the job market as it changes over time. That's key to our future -- now and tomorrow.

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., a member of the Congressional Black Caucus who's been critical this year of President Obama's response to the high unemployment within the black community, said she found it "curious" that Mr. Obama this weekend told black leaders to "stop complaining."

"I don't know who he was talking to because we're certainly not complaining," Waters said on CBS' "The Early Show." "We're working. We support him, and we're protecting that base because we want people to be enthusiastic about him when that election rolls around."

Waters and other CBC members this year have said Mr. Obama should do more to directly address the black unemployment rate, which is nearly double the national average. The Labor Department earlier this month said unemployment rate among African-Americans was 16.7 percent in August, while the overall unemployment rate last month was 9.1 percent. Among black youth, the unemployment rate was 46.5 percent in August, the government said.

At the CBC's annual awards dinner on Saturday, Mr. Obama told black leaders to "Shake it off. Stop complainin'. Stop grumblin'. Stop cryin'. We are going to press on. We have work to do."

He urged them to "put on your marching shoes" and get behind him.

Waters said she doesn't think the president would speak like that to other minority communities.

"I found that language a bit curious because the president spoke to the Hispanic Caucus, and certainly they're pushing him on immigration... he certainly didn't tell them to stop complaining," she said. "And he would never say that to the gay and lesbian community, who really pushed him on Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

The CBC has been holding a series of town hall meetings and jobs fairs across the country, where Waters said people have been "circling the blocks to get a chance to talk to employers."

"They want to know that we recognize, and that the president recognizes the pain that is in the African American community," she said.

Though she said she was surprised by some of Mr. Obama's language on Saturday, Waters said the president has heard the concerns of the CBC and is energized to address the needs of the black community.

And just how many unemployed Negroes have MARKETABLE SKILLS?

UTB, the jobs you listed require a experience. The medical field is still in demand, and it might be the best hope for those who really want to work.

Some folks just want to depend on others.

My middle daughter is in the health field, and has been for over 20 years. She was a pharmacist, but has moved up by going back to college to obtain another degree, and is now making over 130K a year.

When a job, IE: a Customer Service rep, requires a college degree somethings wrong....very wrong. Since when does one need a college degree to answer a phone and answer a question or channel a call? Degree or none the person is going to be trained for whatever industry is hiring, in addition to most companies have scripts for basic questions. Another way to keep from hiring that's all.

So be careful UTB how you degrade people for not getting a job you're not in the market so you have no idea how difficult it is for some.
It's not even easy for those with skills to get a job now ....as employers are trying to blackball the public, more so now since Obama was reelected.

You "go with the flow bro", if that's what the company requires, then that's what you go with. The company policy cannot be countermanded,so what's the problem? Would you want a dummy representing your company?

You're right about that. It's also funny that someone needs up to three years experience to get an entry level job that only pays 10 dollars an hour. Who the fuck needs experience and a degree answering phones? Employers are dumb as fuck, and people with degrees are dumb as fuck for applying for those kinds of jobs. 6-8 weeks of schooling can land someone a job as an EMT 1, and the overtime is awesome.

The problem isn't the lack of jobs. Dumb fucks are having kids, and then looking for work. Of course someone is going to need a $60,000 a year salary in California if he or she has a kid or kids to support. I know people without kids who make less than 15 dollars an hour who aren't complaining. They pay their rent, bills, and still have more than enough money to have fun.

People want to work, but it isn't worth 4 years of college to get a job that only pays 12 bucks an hour. Civil service jobs are the best bet for people right now. Fuck private industry.
