Florida Rep. Allen West, the Tea Party-backed Republican whose fiery rhetoric made waves during his single term in Congress, conceded his seat to Democrat Patrick Murphy on Tuesday, acknowledging that contesting the election was unlikely to lead to his victory. "For two weeks since Election Day, we have been working to ensure every vote is counted accurately and fairly. We have made progress towards that goal, thanks to the dedication of our supporters and their unrelenting efforts to protect the integrity of the democratic process. While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election,” West said in a statement provided to WPTV in West Palm Beach. “While a contest of the election results might have changed the vote totals, we do not have evidence that the outcome would change,” he added. He went on to congratulate Murphy. “I pray he will serve his constituents with honor and integrity, and put the interests of our nation before his own,” he said. Until releasing the Tuesday morning concession statement, West had shown no signs of giving up on his race for Florida’s 18th district, despite Murphy’s narrow but steady lead since Election Night. But the writing appeared to be on the wall after the expanded vote recount West had demanded put the Republican even farther behind his rival. The last tally found Murphy with a lead of more than 2,000 votes. Murphy responded with his own statement, saying he was "humbled by Congressman West's gracious concession" and eager to get to work on behalf of all voters. "To those who supported my opponent, my door is open and I want to hear your voice," he added. West shot to Republican stardom in part because of his heated rhetoric. He grabbed headlines by telling DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz that she is “not a lady” and ordering President Obama and Democratic congressional leaders to “get the hell out of the United States of America.” But Murphy turned West’s own words against him during their bitter campaign, recruiting children to recite some of his most controversial statements in one ad. “Bullying and name calling has no place in the playground or in Congress,” Murphy said. West, meanwhile, outspent his rival by a four-to-one margin, turning the contest for Florida’s 18th congressional district into the most expensive House race in the U.S. Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/allen-west-concedes-defeat-florida-race-article-1.1204978#ixzz2CrlfoZV9 |

Michael Steele has some hope. He was on a program on TVOne and he was the blackest I've ever seen him be. He never talked crazy shit like the others. |

Michael Steele only rediscovered his blackness because he found out to his cost just how racist the Republican party is. Steele used to be the RNC chairperson, he took the GOP to huge success in the 2010 election but little did he know that his deputy and the Republican leadership were plotting against him. The GOP is truly Shameful. Steele has a successful record as chairman of the RNC but the white, stuffy shirt republicans don't like it. They just used Steele after Obama was elected because they wanted a black face. |
