My concern is that I've told him "no" regarding exclusive dating. Am I accidentally teaching him to play the field? My intent is that he learns to get to know someone before settling into a "relationship".

What do you guys think? How do you teach a young man to be...picky? ^_^
As a former 16 y/o boy I can almost guarantee you even if you told him to date exclusive, he more than likey will eventually play the field. If this is his first "special one", there will be more ;)

We give our kids the best advice available to us based on our experience and training. Most times, it workout for the best and on those few occasions it don’t, we’re provided with a learning opportunity.

I’m sure your son will follow you and your husband’s value system that's currently being demonstrated in your household. Responsible parents tends to raise kids that value their beliefs and you appear to be a concerned parent.

Personally, I believe you “ treat your girlfriend / wife equal to or better than you treated your mother”.

That’s what I told my daughter, who is now married. Select a man that loves you and willing to treat you better than I did.

To her good fortune, her husband thinks the world of her.

At 16 he's far from the stage in life, so he'll going to have his share of fun.

So like I said Truth, what do you think of men sitting down having discussions and giving advice, just like women need to do to these young girls.

I am sure you would agree.

I truthfully, tire of hearing, the boys will be boys shit, while simultaneously ragging on women.

Teach them both responsibility.

And Kenny B, I know you already agreed with this, so dont worry, I got you.
You know me. I absolutely do agree with you.

I do believe the boys will be boys spiel, but I don't buy it as an excuse.

I see it as a reason to teach them how important it is to be smart about these things, and careful, very careful.

This is not just a problem with young girls. I have a female friend who is 35 with 4 kids and she just told me she is pregnant by a dude that she sees every now and again. I asked her what the fuck was she thinking and she says she don't care.

I'm glad you asked her that.

She cares.

Hopefully she will tie her tubes this time.

She is having unprotected sex, is already on food stamps (like 300 dollars) and i thought she was doing good by working 2 jobs and was thinking about going back to school. Some women just don't get it. 4 kids is enough, especially without a husband.

Yeah, it sounds as though she was getting it together. But still lacking in the common sense department. That's too bad. She is a caricature of part of the problem.

In my opinion Liberal values is the root cause of the break down of the black family. Liberal values say it's to have kids and not be married.
