The article doesn't say where in Africa, or why..... that upsets me. I want details, damn it!

More Fort Riley soldiers are preparing to deploy.

According to the Army, soldiers of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat, 1st Infantry Division, are set to conduct situational training exercises next week.

The training is in preparation for the unit’s assignment as the U.S. Army’s first Regionally Aligned Force. Regionally Aligned Forces are U.S. Army units tasked to train, mentor and collaborate with partner nation’s security forces.

Beginning in 2012, small elements of the “Dagger” Brigade are scheduled to deploy to Africa.

Preparation for the mission includes language, regional expertise and culture training.

We already have troops in Uganda to give the government "information" on fighting the LRA rebels. Not sure if this is an addition or a rotationof forces there or not

My soldier friends are not telling me anything... Either they don't know or I'm on a need to know basis and obviously don't need to know....

Well.... Guess I will snoop around when I get back home to KS...

If you hear anything Kenny!? I'm all ears... I mean eyes...

Kenny's right, there are troops in Uganda, to fight the Islamists in the Horn. There is also Africom, which is the US joint command with an African Contingency. I believe, however, that this deployment may be to Mali to bolster the African force which is about to engage the Islamists that have taken the northern half of Mali and destroyed Timbuktu.

Unbelievable what is going on there now in Mali. Mali had such a vibrant music scene and now the music has died. The Islamists are destroying their culture bit by bit.
