"It can no longer be said to be just an inner city problem or one that affects a certain population or demographic."

Oh, but until now its been ok to ignore, I guess....

Heroin has been steadily and rapidly expanding from the usual centers of use and distribution for over a decade. It can no longer be said to be just an inner city problem or one that affects a certain population or demographic. Heroin use and addiction is now bubbling up from just beneath the surface of many small, affluent, suburban communities and affecting families that were unprepared to face this problem.

The Barnes-Jewish Hospital emergency department saw 150 heroin overdoses in 2010 and nearly as many in 2011; its records show a fivefold increase in the past five years. Deaths have shot up, too: More than once, St. Louis County medical examiner Dr. Mary Case has walked into the morgue and found three or four heroin overdoses. This is worse than crack cocaine, she says, because “kids go off to college and get hooked. They’ll be out partying, and the price of heroin is like the price of a six-pack of beer. You don’t have that exposure to crack at a frat party.”

Crack-cocaine deaths peaked in St. Louis County in 2006, with a high of 54. Heroin deaths reached 90 in 2011. Heroin’s demographics are different, too; while those who died from crack cocaine are a mix of races and largely middle-aged, heroin’s victims skew younger, more white, and more male.

The addicts themselves are seeing the users getting younger. ""They're experimenting with heroin a lot sooner than they used to," said Ryan, of Parma, who has been sober about four years.

"I've been in detox about five times, and every time I would go there would be three or four young girls, 16 or 17-yeard old girls from Strongsville, all from nice neighborhoods, all strung out," he said.

But despite the wide use in the suburbs, the majority of heroin dealing is still going on in the inner city. The drug cartels are using their crack cocaine dealers to sell heroin, and the suburban kids come into the city to buy.

You mean, now that it's hitting our ever-powerful, Jewish Bros., everyone cares. As it is now time to do something about it indeed.

..wait until Obama gets wind of this;

those in crises will saved with the-quickness.

Mmm hmm. -_-

There's probably an Executive Order on his desk right now. He and Mitt will shake hands over it as the one thing they agree upon.
