What qualifies as disco, to you? House/disco music was played at Studio 54, bath houses, and at 'vogue' shows, but it's really a combo of funk and rock?
We all know the 'basic' disco artists, however do you consider Got to Give It Up, by Marvin as disco?
What about early Prince?
I like disco and some house music, and have even been to a couple of raves in my day!
Didn't fit in, you needed to be high on X or drunk...
Oh red, forgot to answer about Prince. First off, fixed owes you an apology. Prince had 3 solid jams that fell under the disco genre. Two come to mind now. Sexy Dancer and I Wanna Be Your Lover.
Unfortunately Prince stuff seems unavailable at youtube.

Disco has what I would say is a je ne sais quoi. A quality that is hard to pin down and thoroughly define but you know it when you know disco.
At this point you may be going, ohh bullshit. Well the standard definitions may say something like a danceable form of music done to a 4 on the floor or 4/4 rhythm style, often accompanied by hi-hat percussion. That's the technical part. Of course it's much more. Different artist, different styles of music, and different parts of the world infused various styles. This made the music really dynamic. The queen of disco herself often went way beyond the defined boundaries of disco. One of her classics, I Feel Love, introduced a whole new genre not realized till 20 years later, hi-energy.
Be that as it may, as with so many things in life it's the experience that will tell what is or isn't disco.
I give example that are all over the map.
I get what you're saying.
As a kid, coming of age, watching my older bro/sis listen to all genre's of music, made me appreciate music and instruments.
Being that I love instruments, I didn't really get into a lot of disco, I ventured towards more rock. To me, the studio sound killed a lot of bands!
However, I listened today with an open mind, the music does make you wanta move!

No apology need or expected from him, he's just the board coon. This topic is kinda over his head. I guess he never hear, Off the Wall, by Michael...
I stated in another post, I love instruments. Prince made me go ga-ga...
I have almost everything he ever put out. I don't want to get started on Prince, cause I luv him...
You've made me listen to some songs, in the past, I would have totally ignored.

There was a lot of instruments used in many disco songs. In fact Barry White made that popular. Chic was a group known to use a lot of strings in their music.
Anyway, I'm more than happy to keep this going at your pleasure

You stupid lil' racist, White lady, I've murk'd your dumb brain on this website every time/on many issues.
Yepper and that merely continues, here, since neither you nor Snide is going to produce so much as even one (1) certified reputable publication nor organization which will call Prince's music disco...LOL...I'm tired of reminding Snide that he can't just call an artist's music "disco" when that artist clearly calls it something else ----or they concisely don't deem it as disco.
Meanwhile, I'll stick with "the horse's mouth" for my facts re: Prince's early music style was not haaaardly disco;
...no disco there, eh?
No disco mentioned there either, eh?
Peace
