Well, prompted by truthisrespect here is a a disco thread. It is the music I love and to quote Grace Jones, I was never happier. There was somehate for it from primarily white folks in the era. Today I'm amused to see many white folks do the ubiquitous "YMCA" at baseball games and parties, to movies that would make you think it was an exclusively white thing. When I started college I hung with my black and white friends at the clubs. I always remember my italian buddy telling me he's the italian stallion and to hook him up with the sistas and the black oriented discos. In turn we'd also hang out at the white oriented clubs and the white girls just couldn't get enough of the brothas So here is one personal story that was a part of my experience. I was at a club in Boston and the group, Machine, was there. The lead singer was fine as wine and as they finished performing their song, There But For The Grace Of God" they started playing other music. Perhaps doing her good deed for the night she asked me to dance with me, a 19 year old who was young dumb and fulla cum. Anyway my head still hasn't deflated from the experience. Ok, so let me start with some of my favorites: This song help launch a lot of rap as it was sampled over, and over , and over again. This one I remeber for 2 things. One of my white friends telling me we are all one nation under a groove. And, there was a dance called "The Rock" and at night couples would be rockin' each other just out in the streets. Shame must have been played everywhere on every station and club at the time for months. It's still so infectious Edited by Snidely Whiplash, Oct 15 2012, 02:13 PM.

The undisputed queen was Donna Summer. In a genre with so talented women performing at their height, she led the way. With all her great songs, this is my favorite. The women loved it as they all thought they were divas as well Love when she goes, HA-HA! Edited by Snidely Whiplash, Oct 15 2012, 02:34 PM.

I think she might have done one disco song. I think she is mostly known for "Free" and "Let's hear it For The Boy". |
