Get Windows 7, it defrags on it's own on a schedule so you don't have to worry about doing it

Until April 8th 2014. It's not really needed anyway. all you need is a good antivirus program and a good firewall program. Those two things cover 95% of Microsoft's "support" :)

It is but that shit doesn't recognize more than 3 gigs of ram and XP 64 was garbage. But Vista was a nightmare to deal with.

I have the following systems:

Win-7

Win Xp

Win 2000

Win ME

Win 98 SE

Knoppix-6

E-Comm station (OS/2)

I multiboot.

It depends on how I feel when I sit down in front of the screen. WIN-7 works with no lag, but XP was the only one that seemed to access a bit slow.

I wondering what benefit will it be to use Win-8

Hell, I forgot I still have win 3.11 running under a virtual screen.

Years ago OS/2-Warp-4 was my favorite OS.

The average user doesn't need more than 3GB of Ram. Which is why some people are still using it. if you're just doing basic computer tasks, 3GB works.
