"You show me a capitalist, I'll show you a bloodsucker." Malcolm X Speaks, 1965 this doesn't seem like a conservative idea "The white conservatives aren't friends of the Negro either, but they at least don't try to hide it. They are like wolves; they show their teeth in a snarl that keeps the Negro always aware of where he stands with them. But the white liberals are foxes, who also show their teeth to the Negro but pretend that they are smiling." - Malcolm X He's saying liberal and conservatives are both enemies, but the conservatives are more in the open about it, while the liberals are sneaky about it. |

The cult he belonged to didn't hate Malcolm X for saying black people should do for self. The idea that blacks should do for themselves and stop looking to white society was a fundamental belief of the Nation of Islam. The Nation of Islam began hating Malcolm X when he rejected their beliefs and and started promoting the idea that people of the lower classes of all races should work together to fight class oppression. As a member and leader of the Nation of Islam for twelve years Malcolm X promoted their beliefs, which were as follows: The Nation of Islam taught that black people were the original people of the world, and that white people were a race of devils who were created by an evil scientist named Yakub. Since it was the religion of this devil white race, the Nation of Islam rejected Christianity, and believed Islam was the true religion of mankind The Nation of Islam believed that black people were superior to white people, and that the demise of the white race was imminent. They advocated the complete separation of African Americans from white people and proposed the establishment of a separate country for black people in the United States. In 1964, Malcolm X publicly announced his break from the Nation of Islam, saying, “I did many things that I'm sorry for now. I was a zombie then.” Malcolm X felt the Nation of Islam was limited by its rigid religious teachings, and he planned to organize a black nationalist organization that would "heighten the political consciousness" of African Americans. Shifting the focus from religion to political consciousness, Malcolm X emphasized the "direct connection" between the domestic struggle of African Americans for equal rights with the liberation struggles of Third World nations. In his speeches at the Militant Labor Forum, which was sponsored by the Socialist Workers Party, Malcolm X criticized capitalism. After one such speech, when he was asked what political and economic system he wanted, he said that it was no coincidence the newly liberated countries in the Third World were turning toward socialism. Malcolm X now rejected the Nation of Islam belief that all whites are devils and thought people of the lower classes of all races should work together to resist class oppression. Less than a year later, in 1965, Malcolm X was Assassinated Three Nation of Islam members were convicted of the murder. John Ali, national secretary of the Nation of Islam, and identified FBI undercover agent met with one of the men convicted of killing Malcolm X the night before the assassination. Conservative people today don’t quote Malcolm X and his image and words are of little use to organizations like the Tea Party because so many ideas Malcolm X promoted, both when he was a Nation of Islam leader and after he left the Nation of Islam, are not at all compatible with their views. Imagine Tea Party signs that read "capitalists are blood suckers" and "socialism, I'm for it" , and "Christianity is an evil religion of the devil white race created by the evil scientist Yakub "... i have a feeling Victoria Jackson might be upset, lol. And the post Nation of Islam Malcolm X who de-emphasized religion and focused on class oppression would be especially upsetting. Shifting the focus away from the supernatural(Yakub & devils, etc) and onto a reality-based analysis of black oppression/class oppression, and onto reality -based solutions, gave Malcolm X more power. With a more grounded vision and a wider appeal his influence would have had more power to bring about real change. His assassination solved this problem. |
Malcolm X said that black people need to get off of welfare and stop begging, isn't that a Conservative view?
Malcolm X did want black people off welfare. As a member of the Nation of Islam he promoted the idea that black people should separate from the US and have their own country because with their own nation and economy black people would no longer be excluded from the economy and reduced to welfare. Malcolm X said black people were manoeuvred into poverty and manoeuvred into addiction so that they could be exploited as cheap labour and as victims of the prison–industrial complex. He saw the problem more as a systemic problem rather than an individual problem.Conservative views are based on the idea that the individual is responsible for their circumstances and systemic corruption plays little or no role.
