Ohio Republican Party: GOP Chairman Made Racist Remarks Because He Thought He Was Speaking Off the Record After Ohio's Secretary of State Jon Husted announced last week that early-voting sites across the state would only be open on weekdays, many felt the restriction would unfairly impact "working people" in general, and minorities in particular. Doug Priesse, chairman of the Republican Party in Franklin County (where the state capital is located) and a top adviser to Governor John Kasich was not among them. "I guess I really actually feel we shouldn't contort the voting process to accommodate the urban - read African-American - voter-turnout machine," he told the The Dispatch in an email. Ohio Democratic Party chairman Chris Redfern called Preisse's remark "patently racist," and a "flat out" admission that the Ohio Republican Party sought to use limited early-voting hours "to disenfranchise African-American voters." Sticking up for Preisse, executive director of the Ohio Republican Party Matt Borges told the paper that Preisse "thought his comments...were off the record." As ludicrous as it is to suggest that racist comments made off the record are somehow less racist, Borges' excuse on behalf of Preisse is rendered doubly absurd by the following sentence from The Dispatch: |

So we should just take your world for it because you SAY that is what you did in 2008? Since we are taking each others words, I assisted in getting over 5, 000 black people registered to vote in 2008 and made sure they ALL got to the polls . Then called up thousands more as a volunteer all while mentoring Black kids, speaking to the homeless at a program run by this sister who works with me, volunteering at Hosea feed the Homeless, participating in food drives and much more. That enough for you? The diffrence between you and I is that you have this need to let everyone know what you did. I don't. I don't need a pat on the back or a "that a boy". I do it because it's the right thing to do. There are hundreds more like me fanned out throughout the metro area. QUIETLY doing what we can to make life a little better for those who need the help. WITHOUT any need for recognition. I don't need a cape or an "A" on my chest for "Anti-Racism" to make a difference. Those who can do, those who can't sit on the sidelines and claim that they do while seeking credit from anyone in hearing distance. Contrived superficiality. Where's the magnanimity in that? Thanks K! Brothers and Sisters all over the country are doing this. We just rarely, if ever, hear about it because it doesn't sell like murder, rape and robbery, self loathing and defeatism. The contant refrain in much of the media when it comes to reporting on Black people. In my judgement, we need to uplift as many as we can however we can. You don't have to be rich, highly educated or any of that. All that is required is a sincere desire to help. To make things a little bit better. Very simple. we even have kids along to show them how they can help and to teach them humility and a sense of caring for those who might be less fortunate. Some of the kids graduate from high school and college and still particpate in their spare time. It's really a beautiful thing. Especially when you see a teenager caring tenderly for an elderly person with such conviction and passion and the bonds that sometimes develops between them. That is what it should be about in my opinion. Not all of this strom and drum. |

You mean, you had a need to 1)sit here and cry voter suppression out of your mouth instead of getting out there and preventing it plus yall 2)always talk crazy with kennyNbmore and other cornballs who cry, "all you do is sit on a msg. Bd. And post nothing!" therefore it's only fair to mention the fact, that that isn't all I did. Your dumb talk, compelled me to list proofs that I do more than sit online. If you lames don't talk greezee, then there's never a reason to mention what I do. Period. ... you can't turn this around onto me, nope, you can forget about trying that one Edited by The SOLE Controller, Aug 22 2012, 09:11 PM.
