Let’s Get Serious About Voter Suppression

Great result for the civil rights groups, State Senator Nina Turner and the Democrats in Ohio. People need to keep fighting the trick the Republicans are using to try and apply voter suppression.

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, facing heavy criticism over uneven voting hours that appeared to benefit Republicans, Wednesday ordered all 88 county boards of elections to stay open the same hours this fall.Husted’s directive ordering all election boards to standardize their schedules after early absentee voting begins Oct. 2 sets up the first election in Ohio history with uniform statewide hours.
But while Husted’s order mandates limited extra evening voting hours, it will prevent boards from opening on weekends as many did in the 2008 presidential election, when tens of thousands of Ohio voters cast early in-person absentee ballots.
Husted, a Republican, apparently acted to quell a growing national controversy over disparities in voting hours that seemed destined to give the GOP a significant edge in November.

I really did not think you were that ignorant Ken or you are enjoying getting some spotlight. How the law in Ohio was being applied was racist because it was only being used in predominantly black and democratic voting wards. How many times and in how many ways does that have to be pointed out to you. The Ohio law, HB 194, cuts the days of early voting from 35 to 17, including eliminating the three busiest days just prior to the election. It also ends the requirement that poll workers assist voters who are at the wrong precinct and prevents county election boards from sending mail ballot applications to all registered voters.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown told the hearing that the new laws are being promoted "under the guise of preventing voter fraud and saving money," but this is "a solution in search of a problem," since no evidence of voter fraud has ever been presented. The real aim of the "one political party" pushing these efforts, he said referring to the Republicans, is to suppress voting by minorities, youth, disabled, elderly, homeless, and low income people. This new law that has now been struck down was only being applied to mostly black and Democratic wards.
I know you are not stupid but watch the videos and learn. It is like talking to a brick wall.

You said there was a law that only applied to minorities and not whites. Show me the link or just admit you made an incorrect statement

Kenny you know damn well what the republican's MO is. They wanted to make Obama a one term president. So when the republicans swept the mid terms, that is when they began enacted all of these brand spankin new voter id laws. This shit was fine when Dubya was winning back in 00 and 04 but after they got there asses handed to them in 08 they had to change this shit. I will give the fucker scredit for getting that shit done and in a swift manner. Sure they'll sacrifice a couple of white votes but as long as kills those blacks and latinos then it's mission accomplished.

If this was not suppression, why would some states not accept military id, student id, veterans VA id, or birth certificates but will accept a damn gun permit. I know you will say prove that it targets blacks but some states are requiring this in predominatly black jurisdictions. The fact that a state has the nerve to require people to use a state approved id only is full of shit. Even if i only had an expired DL doesn't change the fact that it's still ME.

I get ripped on for complaining about hoodrats. However, I think it is safe to say that my rants about hoodrats doesn't compare to complaining about having to use a government issued ID in order to vote.
