Yes, times change and so do people. I would love to see very Black community in this country thriving and doing very well, but the piercing reality is that it is not the case. There is no quick fix either. In truth, many Black people are doing very well. Some of these comments seem to imply that 40 million Black people al live in abject poverty. I think sometimes, the focus seems to be on dealing with the symptoms without trying to find the cure. |

Nope because thanks to my boy Warren Ballentine things are about to change for black people. He is about to pour 100 million in the hoods and create businesses to give those people hope. |

That's a good thing, but where is this 100 Mil coming from and how will it be distributed? Which communities in what cities will benefit? Just a few things that I'm curious about. Not trying to rain on the parade dawg. |

Ballantine's idea will not see the light of day. His plan is a great idea but impossible to implement for several reasons. Reason #1 is it's too light on details. If I'm contributing even $1, I want to know where that dollar is going. He has yet to disclose exactly where that money would be going, how it will be distributed and utilized. |

Lastblackman, Warren Ballentine got his idea from Rush Limbaugh. Two years ago Rush Limbaugh started selling tea on his radio show, then Warren Ballentine started selling coffee. |

What Facts do you have to support the notion that Ballentine is imitating limbaugh? Besides, if this idea has even a remote chance of bringing about needed improvements in Black communities across America, who cares where the idea came from. My curiosity has been piqued though, by this novel approach to creating some semblance of financial relief. However, what good will the funding do if these communties aren't first cleansed of the crack epidemic that permeates many Black communities and the ubiquitous scenes of young Black men lying in the streets after having their lives needlessly snuffed out by other young Black men? Will an infusion of money really help to alleviate these ills? These are a few questions that beg to be asked in my opinion. |

Some people do not get it which is the main reason why we fail to advance as a race, but I do understand that we have blacks with money; however, we need to understand that we have very few wealthy blacks in this country, and most of the wealth has been created in the past 10-20 years. We fail to understand that others have been allowed to plunder our community by owning a business, but contribute very little to improve the condition of our neighborhood. For example, in Decatur, there is a black owned pizza place that donates fifty cents for every pizza sold to neighborhood schools. Although the pizza is not the best and I do not live in the section of the city, I purchase pizza because the guy is helping the hood. How many of those other places are donating money or sponsoring activities for the kids. Why can’t we come together and donate an industry like food because everyone has to eat. Why can we own a large percentage of the food industry? I know some say we can not come together, but if we did, it could create opportunity for more blacks in management, purchasing, truckers, farmers, etc. A lot of black farmers and truckers struggle because they do not get those huge contracts, and by us controlling those industries, we can determine who gets the contracts. For example, my uncle told me about a white with a third grade education, but he owned a trucking company, and he was able to get some major contracts because the influence of some other people. Why can’t we flip that script? |

I hear what you are saying LBM. I patronize Black businesses all over Metro Atlanta. Now, I don't get over to Decatur much because I'm rarely on that side of town. I got a few peeps over there. My point is that few Black businesses are going to flourish in a commnity rife with drugs and crime? How many businesses are going to be able to survive if they are getting robbed evey other week or dope boys loitering or shooting cats down in front of their businesses? Like some parts of Hollowell (Bank Head). The same for some parts of Southeast and Southwest Atlanta, Mechanisburg, the West End. I could go on. I'm not suggesting that ALL crime will need to be eliminated. That is likely unrealistic, but it needs to get a whole lot better than what it is. I remeber a time before crack when things WERE much better than what they are now. Heck, most of the rockin clubs use to be off of Campbellton Road. I don't even go over there at night anymore. Even the ones that weren't, like Mr Vs Figure 8, were nice places to take your lady without having to get into a freakin fight for steppin on a cats shoes or spillin a drink or getting shot. |
