Warren Ballentine is creating a foundation designed to improve the overall condition of the black community. It is a foundation designed for us to work as a group to help each other because he is only asking that people donate only $60.00 a year to bring change to impoverish community by building at the grassroots level. I know many (might be a bunch of clones) on this board have been romanticizing about black wall street and why blacks can work together today to accomplish such a feat. Now you people will get a chance to put your feet where your mouth is with this foundation.

The foundation will create jobs because the money will be invested in a black owned bank which could mean millions dollars, thus require that bank to hire more employee to manage that money. The foundation will have to have some employees to manage the rebuilding projects. The foundation will rebuild/save homes and bring business to the black neighborhoods, thus creating jobs by hiring black contractors to rebuild homes as well as hiring black employees for the business. When we give people hope our neighborhood will become safer because people take care the things they love.

How many are willing to do for self?
So, what would I get for my $60? The warm & fuzzies? No shares? No equity? Would there ever be a return on my investment?
Nope you get more:
1) Blessings
2) Safer neighborhoods
3) Employment for future generations
4) Increase in wealth for blacks
Can you guarantee a return on the investment? Otherwise, no thanks. I work too hard for my scratch

I'm all for supporting the black community in any legal way I can...

I'm pro-support.

In more ways than one.

So you're going to donate 60 bucks a month?

And to every other black self help org asking for a donation too?

If so,

Then you must have boat loads of money to throw away. :D
I do many things to help the black community already....

I didn't say I'd sign up for this too. Although, I might. I might not.

I simply said I am PRO SUPPORT. IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.

Support doesn't always mean financial.

He is only asking for 60.00 a year which is $5.00 a month. That is not much for changing and transforming lives.
Not a cent. ^o)

The title of your thread is wrong. That is not doing for self. That is doing for others. At the very least it is doing for others in hope that they do something for you which is still not doing for self.

You want to know what doing for self is? Doing. For. Self. Now, if you're trying to push Blacks to give money to a few individuals in hope that those individuals come through in the clutch then you should have titled your thread Give Money To A Few Blacks And Pray They Don't Swindle And Take It To Buy Mansions And Vacation Homes Like Farrakhan Does instead of Do For Self.
It is do for self because as our neighborhoods improves it helps all of us. We have to understand how money works and the way it multiples when it circulates as we spend it. The problem is when we get the money, we seldom spend the money with black business which is why we continue to be the underclass, and we often wonder why other have past us. Did you know that blacks earn roughly 1 trillion dollars which if we spent 1% per week in our own hoods, we could spend close to $200,000 per week.

The best way to understand why we continue is to observe why a third world company have the problem that have:

Tourism Multiplier Effect
Tourism not only creates jobs in the tertiary sector, it also encourages growth in the primary and secondary sectors of industry. This is known as the multiplier effect which in its simplest form is how many times money spent by a tourist circulates through a country's economy.

Money spent in a hotel helps to create jobs directly in the hotel, but it also creates jobs indirectly elsewhere in the economy. The hotel, for example, has to buy food from local farmers, who may spend some of this money on fertilizer or clothes. The demand for local products increases as tourists often buy souvenirs, which increases secondary employment.

The multiplier effect continues until the money eventually 'leaks' from the economy through imports - the purchase of goods from other countries.

A study of tourism 'leakage' in Thailand estimated that 70% of all money spent by tourists ended up leaving Thailand (via foreign-owned tour operators, airlines, hotels, imported drinks and food, etc.). Estimates for other Third World countries range from 80% in the Caribbean to 40% in India.

http://geographyfieldwork.com/TouristMultiplier.htm

We are just like a third world country in that we let the money leave our neighborhood without it circulating through other black hands to create jobs which is one of the main reasons why our unemployment rate is higher than anyone else in the country. I know some wondered why black wall street was so successful and it was said that money seldom left the black community. We need to reverse those trends by spending at least 10% of our money in our own hoods and as we see improvements, we can spend more.

You have blinders on which means explaining anything other to you than the way you are quite sure will only work for Black Americans is useless. But I'll just say this. There are more ways than one to fix the problems you're worried about and trying to push a specific way on all Blacks and tell them either they have to do this and live or if they don't agree with it then they must be the worst self-hating Blacks on Bob's green earth won't work too well for you. Sure, you'll get a few others who will praise you and demonize the rest but, seriously, when has a global vision by one person to be implanted by every single Black person in America ever worked? Farrakhan? Marcus Garvey? Malcolm X? No. They had plans that fit a niche of people but we need something bigger than that. We need an idea that has many paths leading to and out of it.

You know what happens, LBM, when you lay out one path and tell Blacks they have to stay on it until the end? People who wish you harm start to pray on those roads. Even other Blacks will set up shop to fuck up your world. Why? Because they know it's the only path you are going to walk because you can't see the other paths before you or read the warning signs that perhaps while one man may be able to tackle and get past the road block ahead another may not be so fortunate and would probably be better off taking that turn on the left.

So how much of this $60.00 is actually going into the community and not stay in the foundation? Some charities take up to 75% of contributions given and uses the money for keeping the foundation running...
