This statistic is too depressing and shows the need for all black men to do their part and start acting as mentors to young black boys.Tattos, clubbing, skimpy clothes, miami beach, beckys are not important issues but saving our boys is. Less than half of black males graduate from high school, and they represent only 4 percent of college students—dire statistics that are nothing new to those familiar with America's black male achievement crisis. But what enables some black males to overcome significant obstacles and go on to attend—and graduate from—college? |

True Pretty Ricky, True. And you know some people just have the it factor for resilience. I have seen people with fucked up parents pull themselves up by the boot straps. It is such a myriad of factors that affect these kinds of things. However, Kenny is right, responsible parents are important. And it doesnt even have to be both of them, because I am waiting for my friend Marcus to come in with the everyone needs the father spiel. |

Right and although college isn't for everyone, the alternative shouldn't be JAIL. |

Well said, SUA. Most people know the difference between right & wrong, regardless of how they were raised. I have known successful people that came from hell-holes, and I have known losers that came from paradise. You really can't help someone until that person decides first to help themselves. People who never do anything positive for themselves never value the true worth that comes from hard, productive work. We should always keep the door open with the lights on should a person commits to being productive. |

I think a big problem is Jail is too nice. These young kids out here, they don't fear jail enough. They need to fear jail far more than they ignore education. There is no way even a single person should be happy to go back to jail. In other countries? Jail is hell. Holes in the ground, no running water, food that takes you days to finally keep down after you get used to it. I'm sure in America that would be considered inhumane but, you know what, we're reaching pandemic stages with this shit and for those who won't listen to reason you need to put the damn FEAR into em. |

![]() This is an American jail. It's not very big but it has a hard ground, an actual bed, shelves, a sink, ironing board, toilet, and places to put up your picture. Then you get three meals a day, a fucking gym, some TV, and go on to Facebook to handle your business. For a person who normally doesn't have shit that's looking pretty nice. I tried to find the jail I visited in Malaysia but the shit is apparently so damn horrible even American Google won't fuck with it. It was fucking disgusting. No electricity, none of the shit I wrote in the post above this. Dirt on the ground. And the place was probably cleaned up because some guys from my ship were doing a tour of it. I'd hate to see how it looks occupied after a few months. The smell alone would probably kill you. You have to be either criminally insane or extremely desperate to want to go to one of those. |
