For what's it worth I agree with a lot of what Mal says. I think it's true that as a whole black men can do better. However at the end of the day, no matter how much help you offer to a child, they still have to want it. And I think it makes it that much harder to reach a black male child who's growing up poor, but seeing drug dealers driving around their neighborhoods in Escalades with tinted windows, booming systems, and 20's. Ironically with the absence of so many black fathers in those black boy's lives, the only man talking to them is those same thugs. Except they're not talking to them about education. They're teaching them how they started out as a look out for a dealer and now they're driving an Escalade. So many black boys are missing role models in their life because their father took off. It's sad bro I agree Kenny, but what you stated underscores the need for men and women to be the counter force in those kids lives so they will have options to what that are seeing in their comunnities. Now, I'm not naive and I know that it can be a daunting task to take kids attention away from the "easy money" that they seethe dope boys, pimps and other figures that suck the life out of many Black communities. we still have to try though. As I stated, some will be lost no matter what. I try to focus on those that can be saved.

How did a generation become so "hopeless"? I guess that's the best word I can find. It's almost as if there is no hope inside of some, NOT ALL.
Yes, starting with children seems to be wise. Mentoring, teaching, great avenues for access to teaching young minds there IS hope, there ARE choices one can make....
One of my g/f's daughters was selling girl scout cookies and while I was filling out the form for the order of my own "guilty pleasures" of thin chocolate mint cookies (yummmmm), I told this young lady that she looked quite smart and pretty in her uniform - she just brightened up and smiled, that huge grin the covers most of a small person's face. Then I told her she was very brave, to be able to sell so many cookies! Her mother told me whatever I said to her daughter made her want to sell MORE cookies - this girl went on to be the top seller for their local girl scouts! It wasn't ME at all - I was just trying to encourage the child. We have no idea what affect we can have on other's... especially children.
Oh - here I'm discussing girls, when the thread is about men / boys. SORRY!
Agreed! Sometimes all it takes is a simple encouraging word. Kids need to know that they are important to us and that we care!

That is a great point as to why too many young people feel hopeless. I saw a documentary about young men in jail in Florida and how the army was trying to get some of those who had commited lesser crimes involved in army training while is jail. There were a few who did not want to join in and they kept repeating the same line that they did not care and did not care about thier futures. It was sad to see that even young men in their late teens did not see a bright future or options but only hopelessness and no sense of self improvement.

Many black males do not understand the concept on positive self-empowerment.

Starting with children is not only wise but pretty much the only way to change something. By the time a hopeless person becomes a teenager it's that much harder to make them want that hope. And when you get into the 40's? You can damn near forget. Something extremely huge has to happen in their lives but by then most don't give a shit about much of anything including death.

The institutions that used to ensure some aspect of unity, hope and positivity have been so eroded from strong family structures, the black church, civil organisations and a solid education system. That young people are indeed lost and empty is a tragedy. They seem to need to fill their lives with things of little importance or substance.

Stop being a pair of fucknuts. We're human beings and whether you believe we were here 6000 years ago or 3 and a half million years ago then there's one thing you probably realize and that is that human beings adapt. You're busy bitching and complaining about young people being empty and lost. Well, two things are apparent. You've only been around a select group of Black children in a small, yet volatile community or you have never been around children period. PERIOD. Because if you did any work with Black children on any level besides shitting on them you'd realize that the majority are not lost or empty and it doesn't fucking matter how excited you are to crush their hopes and dreams by telling them constantly they're all pieces of shit. You, stay away from children.

Most of the attitudes from young folks comes from the parents not being involved or caring. I was in the yard washing my car last week and a 14 y/o boy from around the corner was walking the street with his pants down showing his boxers and i told him to pull up his pants because he looked stupid and nobody wanted to see his underwear. He said i'm sorry and at least while i was outside he kept them up. He passed by several times. He lives with a mother and father and my point is that when young folks start to go astray, why don't parents stop some of this mess before it starts?

You, stay away from children. I have never called any young person a piece of shit and dont have the attitude that their dreams should be crushed. I am surprised if that is all you get from my posts. You cannot show me one where I do not state facts and base my comments on the truth. I am not sure why you are so desperate to contradict what I state by twisting my words. I do not bitch or complain but do not understand why the situation is the way it is and do not need to makes statements based on false information. I am glad you live in a world where the young people you are around are doing well and have goals but this is not the reality for too many. It is a fact that currently in some states half of all black boys drop out of school, that one third of young males face having contact with the criminal justice system and we continue to fall behind educationally. Sorry if I am not just here to post about tatts, night clubs and other foolishness.

What you're doing isn't helping. You can't tell everybody, all of the time, that all of them, an entire ethnic group, is a piece of shit with nothing that will improve them. First, you'd be lying. Second, you'd be lying, again. I don't know how well you shitting on Black parents constantly does for you in real life but I have feeling the shit you type on the board about the subject never, ever leaves your lips. Not even when you're alone behind closed doors. Because you know better.
