There is no bigger crisis in the Black community than the current state of Black men. We are in crisis on every level spiritual, educational, social, family, crime, employment, economic and our mental health. There is a lack of honesty in the lives of black men and how we are not able to communicate the pressures we face and the insecurities we feel. We often take it out on other black men or black women rather than dealing with the pressure we face in this society. We suffer disproportionately from higher rates of unemployment, incarceration, dropping out of shcool, not graduating from college, homicide rates and increasing rates of suicide. There seems to be a state of denial or acceptance as to this issue. |

This formula doesn't work for everybody. You can skip college and still support your family or self. In fact, the law of balances dictates that everyone should NOT go to college because it ends up saturating specific job types. There's a lot of jobs needed in our society that don't require college education and college would actually get in the way of being hired for those jobs. But some of still pay well.

What Blaq said... There are plenty of Black men out there who aren't thugs, but the problem is that thugs are glorified, so women chase them. Mal, you need to stop watching Cops and The Next 48 Hours. Oh, everyone shouldn't start a family. God forbid I have kids. Just because a dude is Black doesn't mean he should start a family. Just because a Black man doesn't go to college or trade school doesn't mean he is a thug. Damn dude, you starting to sound like Marcus when it comes to Black men. |

I sound nothing like marcus and his fity other names. Marcu is insecure and lacks pride, he is a weak man who wants to pretend that balck women are wrong, uncouth and the cause of the black communities problems. I accept the fact that the most serious crisis in the black community is not black women geting tatta, being bored, making men dogs and being in the clubs it is the fact that the prison population of black men continues to rise and that those getting a good quality education continues to decrease. I agree Blaq that college is not the only answer but blue collar jobs are getting fewer and fewer and getting qualifications to maybe become self employed, have leverage or more oppurtunities is always a good thing. |

Mal, go visit a prison and ask the Black men how many of them are virgins, then go to a comic book convention or the RCX show how many Black men are virgins. I am not blaming anything on Black women, and I am now convinced that Marcus is a troll. I don't even think he is Black. College isn't free. There are plenty of blue collar jobs out there, but the problem is that Blacks don't know about them. |

No shit SUA. However, he also said that Black men should get a trade or go to college so they can support a family. Well he said "their" family, however I seriously doubt when a Black male baby is born he automatically has a wife/girlfriend and children. I seriously doubt all Black men want families. I'm just saying. |

I notice that the parents who rule their boys with an iron fist stay out of trouble. They don't end up going to jail and they get jobs. I think Mal should go to the prisons and jails to preach his message. |

Mal, I actually agree with on something. No one can make a person do anything unless he or she allows it. If that was the case, I would have been a serial killer who killed women and probably been studied by FBI profilers. |

I understand where you are coming from but for far too long college has been pushed on to people, namely Black people, as a Cure-All. There's so much more but we'll stick with just college for now. For those who do make it, being told that getting to college damn near guaranteed them a job, what happens when they get out and there isn't a job waiting for them? Or they get a job and are laid off or fired within 5 years for anything and everything, businesses going under? They become discouraged because they were told college would fix all problems and it didn't. On the other hand, what if someone who is told over and over that he won't amount to shit if he doesn't go to college just can't get to college? He may start to lose self-respect and his feel he's just a sorry ass nigga so why try anymore. It happens. I've seen it happen. That's why when I speak to Black children and young people I focus more on what they want to do in life than ensuring they get into college. If what they want to do in life includes college then so be it. If it doesn't AND they can't afford it anyway there's plenty of other doors they can go through and they shouldn't feel like pieces of shit for NOT going to college. And too many of my young brothers and sisters do feel like shit for not going to college and, unprepared for dealing with the emotion of self-pity and guilt, turn it into what all emotions eventually lead to when left unchecked. Anger. |
