Most black men are fixated on their own, personal issues, and have no appetite to take on responsibility for others. For most it is, "I am NOT my brothers keeper". Some attribute it to selfishness, some to ignorance, but it's a fact of life.
You can't help people who refuse to do for themselves.

The sense of not caring about anyone but themselves is not working for black men though. We seem to think that by chasing money by whatever means, women and trying to appear successful rather than being successful that we are building security. The only stability we will ever find is in building stable, healthy families. The basis for any strong group lies in family units and not being an island. I suppose too many of us have not been raised seeing strong families so dont have anything to emulate but we have reached crisis point.

For those of you who work, during your lunch hour, ride around for a little while and count the number of 17-50 yr old able body black males walking around chilling doing nothing. why is that? It ain't the white man fault. I guarantee 70 of them are dropouts, criminals and drug addicts. If you refuse to do the minimal like getting a hs diploma, you are not going to be successful, point blank. All of you keep talking about helping each other but some are not worth the time and effort. Bring the bumbs to your house if you want to and they will rob your ass when you go to work.

I talk to them. You should to if you REALLY want to know what's going on in their lives instead of assuming.

Mal, I think there is a lot to what you say. Selfishness and ignorance, no matter the reason, will always result in that kind of parochial outlook.

Selfishness is in a man's nature.

In other words,

A man is supposed to be selfish because that's how he's biologically designed to be.

But selfishness becomes a problem for a man when he's not in sync with the forces. In other words, when he's out of balance with natural forces that are there to serve him. The forces then work against him if he's not aligned with it. His selfishness then becomes a negative thing, and he is left with a critically limited sense of helping worthy causes.
