Why do some Black men not take any responsibility for the condition of the Black community?; From school drop outs, unemployment, gangs, abandoning families, prison populations and crime.

There's no reason for me to read it then. Sounds like nonsense, I'm not sure why you thought I'd like it
Their belief that a young Black male who's father specifically was known for crime, violence, and/or poverty would automatically follow in his food steps regardless if the child never knew his real father or was even adopted by a loving White couple sounds very similar to what you suggested earlier. The reality is a person like you probably agree with and wish to put in action for the Black community some of the things they wrote wholeheartedly even as you thought perhaps the man point of the book wasn't that interesting.
Children are affected by their environment, that has nothing to do with color. That's why some poor black families are several generations into welfare and some poor white families in Appalachia are still going out on their back porch and shooting and eating possum and raccoon. I tend to have a problem with words like "automatic". Nothing is automatic, but certain trends exist in society regardless of color. Some of you stay stuck on color. Statistically the average child(black or white) who's parent is college educated will naturally gravitate towards college. )Primarily because that parent kind of hammers it home that college is the correct path for them. That's only natural. Likewise the average child who grows up in da hood or da holler, whose parent doesn't have a high school diploma and never gave a damn about school more likely won't. If they don't have a parent pushing their education they likely will care as much as the parent did about it. As I remarked to Sam of course there are lots of exceptions, but the numbers don't lie. Walk through any inner city neighborhood and then walk throuogh any suburb and it's plain to see. That's not too say some children from poor neighborhood don't ever go to college. It's also not saying some kids from the suburbs aren't fuck ups. Take the color away and you can be more objective on the issue. One of the kids I grew up with today is a COO for a fortune 500 company today. One of my college roommates is dead from an overdose and never held a job in his life. It's not a color thing
The issue is nurture not nature. No one is automatically bad, wrong or trouble. The environment they are raised in will impact on them more than any other issue. Poverty in and of itself will not ensure failure in life, it is a persons character, what their parents instilled in them and what they choose to do. The issue in the black community is complex though. Black women are graduating from college at their highest numbers. I assume many of these woman are also being raised in single parent families, in inner cities and seeing bad examples. There is an issue as to why this has a worst effect on some black men who are seemingly becoming less able to stop destructive lifestyles.

Most black men are fixated on their own, personal issues, and have no appetite to take on responsibility for others. For most it is, "I am NOT my brothers keeper". Some attribute it to selfishness, some to ignorance, but it's a fact of life.

Selfishness is in a man's nature to a useful degree.
