No, I wasn't. I just noticed the spelling error TODAY 2/28/12! I was agreeing with the sentiment. |

I've read a few synopsis' and commentaries of The Bell Curve. It sounds like reading it would give me a headache |

That is not true. I have known people raised by crackwhores, and still found a way to go to college, and become a successful in life. I strong, centered person will find a way to strive in any setting. |

He did say "most" which statistics bear out sadly. There are exceptions to every rule |

I've read The Bell Curve. For most sane people with common sense it will probably give you far more than a headache. It's a pessimistic, disgusting piece of literature that puts White at the pinnacle of all things and all Blacks as failed experimental products worthy only of menial labor tasks and death for they believe failure is encoded in the genes of all Blacks regardless if that Black person is a homicidal retard or a well-known nuclear physicist with an IQ of 150. |

There's no reason for me to read it then. Sounds like nonsense, I'm not sure why you thought I'd like it |

Their belief that a young Black male who's father specifically was known for crime, violence, and/or poverty would automatically follow in his food steps regardless if the child never knew his real father or was even adopted by a loving White couple sounds very similar to what you suggested earlier. The reality is a person like you probably agree with and wish to put in action for the Black community some of the things they wrote wholeheartedly even as you thought perhaps the man point of the book wasn't that interesting. |

Children are affected by their environment, that has nothing to do with color. That's why some poor black families are several generations into welfare and some poor white families in Appalachia are still going out on their back porch and shooting and eating possum and raccoon. I tend to have a problem with words like "automatic". Nothing is automatic, but certain trends exist in society regardless of color. Some of you stay stuck on color. Statistically the average child(black or white) who's parent is college educated will naturally gravitate towards college. )Primarily because that parent kind of hammers it home that college is the correct path for them. That's only natural. Likewise the average child who grows up in da hood or da holler, whose parent doesn't have a high school diploma and never gave a damn about school more likely won't. If they don't have a parent pushing their education they likely will care as much as the parent did about it. As I remarked to Sam of course there are lots of exceptions, but the numbers don't lie. Walk through any inner city neighborhood and then walk throuogh any suburb and it's plain to see. That's not too say some children from poor neighborhood don't ever go to college. It's also not saying some kids from the suburbs aren't fuck ups. Take the color away and you can be more objective on the issue. One of the kids I grew up with today is a COO for a fortune 500 company today. One of my college roommates is dead from an overdose and never held a job in his life. It's not a color thing |
