But to blatantly say one is doing more or expect that one do more than the other sets yourself up to not expect more from the other partner. Or to allow a power differential.

If that is the kind of marriage you want, more power to you guys
;)

Why is it always about kids?

Is there a woman out there who doesn't want kids. If so, then point me in her direction.

You brought up the idea of so-called "equality". To look for equality is to do what you're now saying is problematic.

And some days, I get an attitude because I think I'm really doing more, and I let my husband know. Other times he lets me know I'm slipping.

I'm not sure there's true equality if one looks at things in terms of tit and tat. Tit and tat, or tit for tat, has no place in a marriage.
Slipping at what?

At whatever. Whatever he chooses to complain about means I'm slipping in that area.

There's no such thing as 50/50 in marriage or relationships. Somebody will be doing more but if it works for the couple, fuck everybody else.
Exactly. B-)
Doing more in terms of?

That is for the couple to define, not some outside source. When you have kids one day, you will see.

As long as it equals 100 in the end, that's all that matters. Sometimes you will give more than 50, other times he will give more than 50.
