As a kid, I was mesmerized by the Super-Friends, until I read a few DC comics. With the exception of a few titles, I did not like reading them in the early 1980's. Then, I came across Marvel comics, and got hooked. The writing with many DC titles got better, but as a kid I would read the DC books purchased by friends, rather than spend my hard earned allowance. I only put down dollars for Marvel for most of my comic book reading life. The Marvel characters are known for their faults, or having "feet of clay". Stan Lee introduced Soap Opera & Shakespearean tragedy to the characters & stories that blew DC out the water. Also, my favorite characters were normally high on drama, and Stan (and his art team, including Jack "King" Kirby) rarely disappointed. Take these two episodes from the animated Thor cartoon from the 1960's. These stories were literally ripped (and I mean literally ripped) from the actual original comics. It is almost like a motion comic. The first episode showcases Thor's rarely used mortal identity of Doctor Don Blake, and his romance with Jane Foster. Yes, the film made quite a few changes on screen. In the comics, Odin reincarnated Thor as Doctor Don Blake to teach his son humility. Don reveals his true identity to Jane to the ire of his father, Odin. The story goes over the top with the lengths Odin goes to punish his son for loving a mortal. This story also introduced the Marvel version of Hercules. Hercules is literally larger than life. While Thor is dramatic, Hercules is over the top, and melodramatic. The voice acting, story, and music are a total guilty pleasure for me to enjoy. Here is part two of the Hercules story. Despite his power, Hercules is hardly a deep thinker, and easily tricked into a contract by his disguised uncle, Pluto. The story also features the mythological queen of the amazons, Hippolyta. In the Marvel Universe, Hippolyta is a scorned lover of Hercules. In the DC universe, she is the mother of Wonder Woman (and was assaulted by Hercules prior to WW's birth, IIRC). Hercules is considered an enemy of Wonder Woman. Thor risks life & limb to save the one he previously wanted a beat the feces out of. Witness the birth of one of comics' most amusing bromances. Yes, the animation is literally nothing to write home about, but again, I just love the story, the voice acting, and the music. I would love for Hercules to appear in the Marvel films. He is quite the character. Edited by Doctor Magnus Warlock, Sep 6 2014, 06:18 PM.

I like this. The Vision, the guy with the red face, is a long-time favorite of mine.

I love this old school group shot of the Green Lantern Corps, John Stewart in front, naturally.

Well, hello toothless sunshine. I am still waiting for you to expose my alleged racism like V. Stiviano did with Sterling. So far, she has shown way more heart than you. |

Right, I spent my evening basking under the affections of Felicia Flamingo while getting ready to watch Doctor Who. He was was online.....trash-talking.....with men on the brain......as usual. Just another typical lonely Saturday night for him. Poor sod. |

Lately, my boy has been obsessed with his fashion. He's trying to impress his future wife, who happens to be his grade school teacher! We look at men's and boy's clothing and he's giving me an idea of what he's attracted to. I call him "My Dandy!" He likes the white jacket and white pants. We had to buy him a hat. He wants some orange in his wardrobe. More orange, he likes the orange. Edited by Moon Pie, Sep 24 2014, 11:25 AM.
