TIR,

DC comics recently rebooted their characters. They do so many reboots that past history becomes very confusing. In the current continuity, WW is the illegitimate daughter of Zeus (fictions most infamous baby daddy) & the amazon queen Hippolyta.

In the original continuity, WW was molded from clay, and given life power by the Greek gods. However, Hippolyta wanted more than one child. She gathered two molds of clay. The two clay forms were given life at the same time. One was ebony and the other ivory. Like most stories in fiction, they were separated at birth (Nubia was kidnapped at birth), only to be reunited as adults.

Here is the link for Nubia's wiki page. It would be cool if a solo WW was made. In various stories black amazons exist, but Nubia would be a strong supporting character in a live action feature. She has all the same powers as WW.

Doctor,

Is Iron Man based loosely off Metallo? They are very similar.

I've read about Metallo, and I didn't like the story line. I just wish they would take the 'good guy' image off SM, and let him loose. Make him 'in thought', similar to Batman.

Can you image, a bad SM? Game over!

Actually, Iron Man aka Tony Stark is based off eccentric real life Howard Hughes. The early Marvel character origins are really tragedies & cautionary/morality tales mostly which is why they are so timeless, and need very little updating. Iron Man was created during the Cold War, and his motivations for being a hero comes from the Vietnam War in particular.

Like the film, Stark was a self-centered arms-dealer until he found himself a POW in Vietnam (due to the shifting timeline it was changed to the Middle East in recent years). Upon seeing the devastation he caused as both sides were using weapons he created, he changed his ways. Although he still battles alcoholism (his true enemy) and remains a shameless whore-monger. The armor was created to keep him alive as one of his own bombs injured his heart.

Metallo does predate Iron Man. He does have an interesting story as someone who lost his humanity to live forever as an a cyborg, and one of the few beings on Earth that can match Superman. However, Superman supporting character & ally, Steel (remember that awful Shaq film?) is based off John Henry, and is often seen as the DC equivalent to Iron Man. Steel's real name is in fact John Henry Irons.

Several stories have featured Superman being mind controlled & going rogue. It is one of the reasons Superman entrusted Batman to keep kryptonite as he knows the Dark Knight won't hesitate to stop him if he ever looses control.

Various comic book companies have created homage characters based on Superman. Often, these characters normally run amok with little opposition.

DC has written several not in continuity tales of an out control, world-conquering & world destroying Superman.

But that is the beauty of Superman. He has the power to do it. He is a god, and he can rule. But at heart, he is just the son of a farmer with mid-west values instilled in him.

To me, this scan captures what I believe Superman should be. He should be calm, confident, and totally mellow. He loves his adopted world. He does not need to project how bad he is.

So many writers forget that when trying to make Superman dark & edgy.

Look at how the Marvel films are able to blend seriously with tongue in cheek.

When originally conceived, Superman was more a man of the people. He would destroy run-down housing projects forcing the slum lords to build new, affordable housing. He would punk-out woman beaters. During a war between two countries, Superman kidnapped the two leaders and declared that they either fight to the death or make peace. That was the golden age version of Superman. That Superman is more based on the version George Reeves portrayed.

Instead of making Superman like Batman, writers should bring back Superman's earlier edge, if they feel that will attract more viewership.

Yes, this was a comic.

This story had characters from DC as well as the real world.

How many of you knew this comic existed?

Now, if I was running Warner Brothers, I would make this a film, for a February release.

You know, it has been some time since I have done this.

When I take a classic, and compare it to remakes.

Let's do this.

Oh, those covers from the 1980's. Totally shameless then, but now.....

IMHO, that song is a masterpiece.

This classic was covered by none other than Patti Labelle.

I enjoy Patti's rendition as much as the original. The original still wins just for being the original. Patti is still true to the spirit El put in the original, but Patti added enough of her personality to it without making it a carbon copy.

How awesome to have Patti Labelle cover one of your songs?

I simply love smooth jazz cover songs of classic soul music.

This classic was covered by smooth legends Gerald Albright & Lee Ritenour.

I must confess, I have the smooth jazz cover on my mp3 player, and it came up on my shuffle list during lunch.

I have to give all three my Sacred Seal Of Approval.

Nothing like good music on a Friday night after a week of work.

Well shoot, why stop with just one song from Patti?

This is one of my all-time favorites.

Why don't I have this on my mp3?

Wow, Prince wrote this song.

I love soundtrack songs from the 1980's.

Remember this?

I mentioned on here that I have a deadbeat cousin. Geez, from the neck up he and Tupac are almost dead ringers. From the neck down, my cousin in obese with shoestring legs, though.

Damn, that teacher is gorgeous.

This one will never grow old.
