From the Black Panther's first appearance in the pages of Fantastic Four issue #52 (July 1966). It looks so odd watching T'Challa get his blaze on like that. It must have been revolutionary to read about a regal, confident, eloquent, and competent black man in a comic back then. Still, much more has to be done even now with the portrayal of blacks in comics, as with all forms of media.

Well, I finally watched Man of Steel last night. I thought it was a good film. Finally, Superman is actually fighting in a live action setting. I did like the costume, and special effects. I was pretty pleased with the depiction of Lois Lane. From the start, she is smart, inquisitive, and brave. In the best stories, she serves as Superman's link to humanity. She keeps him honest. She is his anchor. I don't have a problem with her finding out who Superman is from the start. In the worst stories, she is goofy, shallow, and not very bright damsel in distress. The main drawbacks are the lack of charisma with the villains, and I thought more character development could have been spread around. I loved Russel Crowe & Kevin Kostner as Joe-EL & Pa Kent. Hey, both played Robin Hood in previous films. I could have seen more of Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. In some stories, it has been hinted that Perry always knew Clark was Superman, but kept mum about it. I know Terrance Stamp went over the top with his iconic presentation of Zod in Superman II, but like Superman, his foes should be over the top. The Zod in MOS was pretty bland, and boring. I mentioned before how Superman is really a sci-fi version of Jesus & Moses. It was strange how they emphasized Superman being 33 years of age (or at least it has been 33 Earth years since the Kents found him as a baby in the rocket). Anyone with basic knowledge of Jesus knows the significance of that age. The other problem is simply...if you are Superman, despite the isolation, you ought to damn near be the most confident & mellow person walking (or flying). He should love being able to catch falling airplanes, intervene during natural disasters, and even saving a kitten from a tree. He can be corny, but he don't give a damn....he's Superman! Christopher Reeve, George Reeves, and even Dean Cain all pulled that off. The guy should be having fun. The new guy seemed to struggle with the whole world on his shoulders. Clearly, this interpretation presents Superman as the corn-fed son of a farmer who learns he is an alien, and all the struggles that entails. Other interpretations show Superman gaining knowledge of Krypton which bolsters his intellect mixed with the values instilled by his adopted parents (which is the Christopher Reeve version most people think of). Many people were critical of the resolution to the battle between Superman & Zod. But folks must understand that this Superman is a brand new interpretation, and his first adventure. I do hope the sequel shows a more confident & worldly Superman. I am a bit afraid with Batman showing up that Superman's development may remain at farm boy level in order to make the Dark Knight look good (and I say that as a Batman fan). The god who was raised as a simple farmer in the mid-west and the cynical, filthy rich city slicker should prove to be an entertaining dynamic if the story is good. I hope the sequel shows that those two are best friends despite their vast differences. And then, we throw in their other best friend, Wonder Woman, into the mix. I hope Superman does not get lost in Warner Brothers' mission to get the Justice League on film to compete with the Avengers. I see a few things that could have been done differently, but I still enjoyed MOS. I would have made the film a bit more fun, like how Marvel does while still being serious. I think the movie would have been near perfect if Marvel films presented it, though. Edited by Doctor Magnus Warlock, Dec 16 2013, 06:59 PM.

Here is a fan made trailer. Scenes from various movies were used. We have Ben Affleck as Batman with various scenes from the Christian Bale Batman era. I even saw scenes with Ben as Daredevil. I am assuming Timothy Dalton is Alfred the Butler, but I could be wrong. The big ticket is Idris Elba as....Lex Luthor. It is rumored that Idris is on that list. It would be awesome if true. In the DC comics, the two most capable humans are Bruce Wayne & Lex Luthor. Funny how one is Superman's best friend while the other is his greatest enemy. Another actor (I don't know his name) is the Superman villain, Metallo. Metallo is a cyborg with a Krytonite heart as his power source. Metallo can go toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel. I hope I did not miss anything. Enjoy! |

I do enjoy exercising. I just finished the last workout for the week. I'll spend the next three days relaxing. I'll chow on junk food Friday & Saturday. Here are a few songs that popped up on my playlist. |

I posted this in another thread earlier.
Here is how it happened. After that, the companions go to a restaurant only to meet....the Doctor. River, ever the wifey, shows her love to her sweetie. As it turned out, the Doctor she slapped was an earlier version from the one she saw murdered. But, she did not know that at the time. You gotta love time travel, at least I do. The Doctor eventually finds out about his intended fate. River was determined to change time, but the Doctor's death was a fixed point in time, meaning some events can't be changed or time will unravel. River was not having it. Time does unravel. But at least we get to see the Doctor get married. He found a way to avoid his death without destroying reality, and he got the girl, too. Edited by Doctor Magnus Warlock, Dec 19 2013, 01:06 AM.
