How did the government pay for those things for 200 years when there was no such things as income tax?
The United States Constitution, adopted in 1787, authorized the Federal government to lay and collect taxes, but required that some types of tax revenues be given to the states in proportion to population. Tariffs were the principal Federal tax through the 1800s. By 1796, state and local governments in fourteen of the 15 states taxed land. Delaware taxed the income from property. By the American Civil War, the principle of taxation of property at a uniform rate had developed, and many of the states relied on property taxes as a major source of revenue. However, the increasing importance of intangible property, such as corporate stock, caused the states to shift to other forms of taxation in the 1900s. Income taxes in the form of "faculty" taxes were imposed by the colonies. These combined income and property tax characteristics, and the income element persisted after 1776 in a few states. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxation_in_the_United_States#HistoryClass over. The lack of intelligence on this forum never ceases to amaze me Thank you!

When you have to make an argument to folks why taxes are necessary, you have to pause and realize that you are arguing with someone who has NO basis in reality and probably should go live in the woods and live off the land with the animals. I mean dayum! You may want to questioned their motives in that they think we are dumb enough to fall for the silly reasons to vote against Obama. I will not vote for anyone that has no solution for improving the USA because I know that we have to pay some form of taxes to the life that we have come to enjoy.

Did you know that in America nobody paid income taxes before the Civil War?
So basically you're saying it's possible that not paying taxes led to a complete split and a possible collapse of the United States for all times? If that's not a good reason to keep taxes I don't know what is. Thanks, bro.
Nobody in America paid income taxed before the Civil War and the government ran just fine. Ron Paul said that he wants to get rid of inocme taxes for everybody rich and poor. America like every other nation was started from the seed of the ancient civilizations of Sumer and Egypt who amassed wealth on free labor and taxed it's free citizens.

Democrats like high taxes. The wealthy wouldn't be paying high taxes, they will just be paying some taxes rather than paying no taxes.
