Gil Scott never got on television and made black people look bad like a lot of these black people are doing today. If he had a problem nobody saw it, it was something that was private that went on in his personel life.
Maybe he didn't but he had problems, he wasn't perfect.

A person can be an angel in public and be an complete terror behind closed doors. Stop looking at the surface and take a look behind the curtain.

Who said any of these people are perfect? All we are concerned with is the positive image they put out there. Anything they did behind closed doors is their business and no one else's. They will be held accountable for what they did or did not do. I hate it when these people get put up on a pedestal as if they are not human and can make the same mistakes that the average person can.

There nothing wrong with an positive image. But if the person's a monster to everyone behind the scenes, that negates the positive image.

All the stuff they do in front of the cameras isn't real. What's real is how they act around their love ones.

A few other people I feel should be on this list:

John Henrik Clark
Ivan van Sertima
Anthony Browder
Umar Johnson
Tariq Nasheed
Taj Bey
Phil Valentine
Dr. Marc Lamont Hill
Carter G. Woodson
W.E.B. DuBois
J.A. Rogers
Cheikh Anta Diop
Akil
Marcus Garvey
John G. Jackson
Dr. Lennard Jeffreys
Ali Muhammed
Ashra Kwesi
Alim Bey
Brother Black Dot
Dr. Ishakamusa Barashango
...and plenty more!

We have a tendency to only acknowledge those in the main stream, but there are plenty out there doing it! And lets not forget those who are in our own personal lives, friends, brothers, fathers, uncles, etc.

It may not be real what they do on camera but it is what the masses are taking literally. But let us not get off top to what this thread is about. I actually would like to see you post some black men who make you proud, Miss I-don't-date-black-men.

This is the dumbest rationale for excusing bad behavior I have heard in my life.

People could be drug addicts, murderers, abusers and cheaters, but according to you, as long as they dont do it on TV its okay.

Your parents led you astray.

No one said they were perfect.

People make mistakes, but my point is that you cannot praise some people in spite of the mistakes they make, and then down others for theirs.

Why can't you people seem to understand that you are being hypocrites.

FUCK what is done on TV!

Again I say, people can be drug addicts, abusers and murderers, but as long as its not done on TV its ok?

Tell me what world you are living in where that makes sense?

OH AND HE DIDNT GET ON TV, BUT THE WORLD STILL KNOWS HE WAS A DRUG ADDICT, SO GUESS WHAT, HE STILL MAKES BLACK MEN LOOK BAD TO THE MEDIA, THE WORLD KNOWS HE WAS A DRUG ADDICT.

Most of those brothers are on the list you might have missed them, Marcus Garvey is towards the top of the page.
John Henrik Clark is on there, Muhammad Ali is on there. That's for helping me come up with some more names, I'm going to add their pictures.

That's a good point.

But wouldn't it be better if we just found role models in our daily lives instead of from the media?

Can't each of us strive to be a role model for another?

Isn't it a better idea to just turn off the TV?
