I am an independent, but I am not stupid enough to waste my vote on someone who I know did not have a chance at winning.
Then you are not a true Independent
What is a true independent?
A true Independent will vote Independent, there were millions of people that voted for the Green party, those are true Independents
There's not always a 3rd party candidate in every race. So what are you supposed to do then?

Then you might sit it out and not vote at all, the Democrats and the Republicans are pretty much the same. They are both bought and paid for by lobbies and special interest groups

independent means that you are loyal to any particular party. It doesn't mean that you always vote for the independent candidate. You may not agree with the independent candidate. In a close election, it would be stupid to vote for a 3rd candidate who does not have a chance at winning.

Well it is a waste of time to talk politics with you because you are politically irrelevant if you always vote for the 3rd candidate in a Presidential election.
