...and your point is? Perhaps the white politician was the most qualified. When your reputation is on the line, you don't want no half-steppers. My perception of your post is that you believe he committed a violation of some code of law by doing so. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. He really can't win, no matter what he does. Noone can please everyone. Be honest at least. Do you happen to know that perhaps the black politician was a better choice? |

Would have made no difference to me, if the person chosen was more qualified. Just because someone looks like you doesn't mean they always have your best interest at heart or that they particularly understand your issues. You can't equate everything to skin color. Don't know if you followed Artur Davis's bid for Alabama Governor. Artur Davis, who is black, failed to garner the majority of the minority vote and the voters stated that it was because he did represent their interest. Many of them chose a white man. I think a certain segment of the American population refuses to accept that minorities are capable of making intelligent choices. There are some voters(including white voters) who will vote for someone simply because he/she looks like them or is the same gender or sexual orientation, but there are many others who actually consider the candidates platform. Maybe those making the assumption that a minority votes for another minority simply because they have a similar hue should examine themselves closely and admit that they have some hidden biases whether they admit it or not. Many poor whites have been voting against their own self interest for decades, but noone ever seems to assume that they're voting for their candidate of choice because he's whiter than the other guy(meaning not accepting of diversity). |
