I agree with you it was good up until the 80's, but as Black people how did we fall down that low

In the 90's we really went down hill the Black community to a serious hit. Crack cocaine was destroying whole communities and Gangster Rap was fueling the fire when it came to Black on Black crime.

Too much has been introduced to society. Not that drugs haven't been around forever but they are accessable by anyone now. The drug of "choice" used to be the weed in the black community. Now there's everything you could possibly want. Kids having kids and the parents haven't grown up which leaves the new child to fend for themselves. Ther was an article in the paper here claiming a young black mother had left her 4 children(2-9) alone for 4 days. The police found them outside playing at 11pm, took them home to find the house a wreck, no food dirty dishes, clothes all over the place., filthy matresses all over the floor. After the mother was located she pulls up in a relatively new car...hmmm. ANother case 2 girls 15-16, were found dead coroners report said from starvation. We need to stop and ask the question to these young mothers. "You do know that this child is not responsible for being here and did not ask to be here, that was your choice". "Now that it is here it is your and the fathers' responsibility to TAKE CARE of it". sending them to jail is not the answer. People in the community need to step on the parents and see that the children are taken care of and taught the right way to live, makeing sure they are in school and are really applying themselves. In most of these situations the mother and father of these abandon children are products of the same environment. We the black community is responsible for what happens to our own. Yes slavery did a job on mind-sets but there are opportunities now that weren't there before and we need to show our younger generation the way. I know it's easier said than done but we need to organize and make it happen. I have tried for several years to get a grant to help the kids who are not going to college prepare themselves for the real world and the work world. Hasn't happened yet and I'm almost 70 but I will find a way before I check out hopefully.
I love this post.

And at [near] age SEVENTY, you are a real inspiration, Ma'am.
As you correctly said, locking-up the parent(s), [in most cases] is not the answer.

Damn Right

Black men in those days didn't make a baby and run off, those Black men married those women before getting them pregnant. So this post is right on point, and those pictures really drive the point home.
