I am black, I'm a so called conservative in many ways. But I'm also against the death penalty. In another life I was closely related to crime, and criminals. Although I do believe that our justice system is flawed... it's about as fair, and perfect a system as anywhare in the world. I also know that the justice system is run by men and women, who are far from perfect. As long as a person has their life, injustice can be corrected. Once a person has been put to death there is no way to make that person whole again in the case of mistaken justice. For this reason I am personally against the death penalty. I do support the death penalty in the case of a person protecting themself, or another against the use of deadly physical force, by the use of counter deadly physical force. But thats just me... As far as crime in the black community?... thats an easy one. Crime my friend follows the economy. Money get tight?... crime go's up. Money gets to flowing?... crime go's down. For what ever reason many black neighborhoods would be considered depressed. ( actually most arent) Our society, and most local governments park their excess police in depressed areas (usually black). I dont have actual statistics, but my guess would be that about 40% of the level of crime is generated by these excess police. I'm not saying that the police commit crime. What happens is these excess police while on patrol, initiate[sp] arrests that would otherwise never have been reported crimes. Also as a result of a excess police presence these officers must show activity, and report crimes that would otherwise go unreported, and may not have even been conssidered crimes. Now before anyone go's off on the individual officers. You must understand this is an administrative decision. This kind of policing is driven by funding. Police department administrators who want a larger budget next year must show productivity, and the need for a bigger budget. I do agree that the black community as a whole has been unfairly targeted, and abused in this way for many many years. But this is just my opinion.... Of course I could be wrong..... But I'm not.... I'm against the death penalty b/c there's only one God and who gave anyone the right to play him. Isn't the saying two wrongs don't make a right. Also by placing the convicted in prison is suffering in itself. God said to forgive. If the person is killed b/c he killed than that doesn't sound like forgiving. Also the Bible says plenty of things to do or not to do but people pick and choose from the Bible what they want to follow |

That's b/c the pigs are shooting and killing the African Americans in the streets instead of giving them a "fair" trial. |

Those stats looks like raw data to me. It seems like they would have to perform an additional analysis, or two, to take into account the population of those race groups in the U.S. to get an accurate percentage compare to each individual race. There are more "white" people in the U.S. and just going off of raw data, in my opinion, is ridiculous |

Look at what the poster said who I was responding to: "majority of people being killed are blacks, or people or color" She didn't say "per capita". |

I believe in a life for a life, if you are bad enough to kill an innocent person, then you should be bad enough to go to the electric chair |

Marcus... It isnt quite as simple as that. If you catch someone murdering an innocent, and you kill him/her to protect that innocent fine.... But the state has no right to take a life until the system is perfect. And it will never be perfect. |
