Our black youth need more role models good one 's, and it starts at home with there parent's. I am getting ready to join the 49er's up here in Colorado, it a drum core for young black men , we do have some white kids in the program and native americans too. I have 4 sons and a 19 year daughter. My sons live with there biological mother, but, I do get to see them on the holiday's and birthday's and school vactions. She has moved to a smaller town and my boy's are very disrespectful and they hate women, well should I say they have a problem taking order or recieving direction from women, beacuse there mom parties and doesn't have time do do anything with them. So I pay a shit load of child support to her and , I don't have the money to get a lawyer so I can get them right now. I work 3 jobs just so I can take care of my family so does my wife. If I had the money for an attorney, my boy's would be with me so they can learn how to survive and I could then teach them some much needed life skills. This day and age all they want to do is play video games, watch all that crap on tv, and see what the adults are doing so they can be just like us. I pray everyday for my sons they need me, I can teach them so much and show them so much love they need that. And blacks are not that affectionate when it comes to there families. IWhen I was a kid, my mother wouldn't kiss me good night nor- did mystep-dad. In stead it was get you A@@ in haer wash these dishes and I didn't get help with my home work. I really needed it. So I turned to Fire-fighter's in the community and they got me through middle and high school. Our kids are lacking all kinds of stuff. They really need to be loved by there parent's, "Parents". You can't count on a teacher and a daycare provider to raise your babies, our society has it wrong we are working 3- to 4 times more than what our ancester's did back in the day's. This is just a portion of what's wrong with our black young men and women, kid's and young adults. They get involved with the wrong crowds, and people in the public eye and on raiod television and all sorts of other things. They are confused I see little girls kissing little girls and same with the boy's. They watch too much TV and in school everything goes. And the minute a teacher addresses, an issue to a parent, they come un,glued because they think that they have angles when in reality they have hardheaded stubborn, so called-bored, angry little kids growing up in a poverty, disfuctional family community and a very negative enviorment. Have you notice this day in age everybody wants to be a rapper or a singer, and or a model. That's fine and dandy but ,you have to go to school and make something out of your life is what I tll my kids, you can do anything you want but just don't go to jail. I could go on and on, and on with this!!!!!!

Ellis those are some great comments that you made, and it's great that you're not just talking, you're getting active and trying to make a difference in kids lives.

Whats wrong with adults, is the real question. Black youth are kicking butt in schools. Black youth in Texas out scored white and latino kids in math. They ranked third in the nation. Thier accomlishment did not make one Black site but it made the front of Google. Again, I say what is wrong with Black adults.

We obsess with a minority and ignor the gains of the majority. 4,000 Black males made 4.5 billion last year. These guys are fairly young. Do you know any other ethnic group that has achieve this after only participating in the system for 30 years? By the way they also help elect a president.

You're right the adults are allowing the kids to run the community,
adults are allowing negative Rap music to go unchecked.

Well, I think a lot of the problems with some of our Black youth is lack of home training to respect other people and the mentality that someone owes them something. Role models? I think parents should fill that position. I don't understand the pressure being put on athletes, celebrities, etc. to be role models to children. I think that should be used as examples as to how far one can go in the world by working hard, being honest and having respect for others. Some of these children that behave this way, imo, don't have a solid foundation in the home because the parents don't take an interest in their education and overall life. I also don't believe that it takes a two-parent home to rear decent, law-abiding citizens. I've seen too many where the mother and father were present in the home and because they didn't take an active role in the education, etc., of their children, they turned out horrible. It's sad and a shame!
