Tobi the Exiled

A strong gale started blowing shortly after midnight, kicking up dust and waking up the sleeping villagers. They got, cursing at the skies and the gods, trying to do anything they can minimize the sound of the wind so they can go back to sleep. In the midst of all this dust, a long figure walked down the dark, abandoned street. One can easily mistaken the figure for a human, but if one was too look more closely, one can see that the stranger's feet are not human at all. The feet gives away Tobi's cover, but if only those people look closer. In reality, Tobi is a fox, a Kitsune from another part of Terona.

Kitsunes are not normally welcomed in human lands, but Tobi didn't care. He knew that the humans were too occupied with the Necropolis in the south and the growing goblin raids in the north. These roads are not commonly enforced, so Tobi can slip in and out quite easily. Besides his cloak and hoods hides his obvious fox-like features. And if things did really get ugly, he always have one of his little toys to help him get out of a tight situation.

Tobi paused for awhile too take in the direction he was going. He was standing in the middle of the town, facing east. If he was to continue down this road, he would reach his destination by sunrise. While this road was longer, it was safer. Rangers tend to stick to the main roads and bypass these small ones that pass through "ghost" towns. Their lack of understanding in this subject was a major advantage to assassin's like Tobi, who can use these roads to enter and leave Haven territory at will. That is another reason why the Haven are losing, Tobi thought to himself.

The fox sighed and continued forward. His client was getting impatient and Tobi wanted to get the job done, eager to claim his reward. He walked quietly forward, not wanting to attract any attention. But then, any noise he makes would be masked by the wind, so Tobi didn't really have to worry. Old habits and all that, thought the fox. He gave himself a smile and shook his head as he continued on.

After another ten minutes, Tobi found himself outside the village and once again on the open roads. He heard a noise behind him and turned around, his short sword drawn. He let out a heavy sigh when he realized it was just a branch falling to the ground. Damn, I must be getting paranoid, he thought as he sheathed his sword. He pulled his cloak tighter around him and marched down the road, satisfied that there is no danger nearby. However he was somewhat alarmed now, and he kept up his guard.

Another thirty minutes and Tobi's stomach started growling. It was then that he realized he skipped dinner. "Is it just me or am I getting old?"he muttered to himself, quite annoyed that his memory is failing him right now. He took a flask filled with a purple liquid and took a long drink from it. This drink would provide him with the energy he needed to travel another hundred miles. As he continued east, the wind started dying down and he pulled out an apple from inside his cloak and started eating. He wasn't fond of apples, but at least it was something to keep him full until morning.

"I'd rather be in Kiro right now," Tobi said under his breathe and he took another bite of the apple. That is one of the bad things about being an assassin, you have to finish your work fast or you won't get the good pay. Tossing the remains of the apple away, Tobi made his way forward.

(Sorry for the long post. I was bored. >.>)

There was a man walking down the road, covered in a cloak. He thought he was alone, but he wasn't. Silently following him from above the road, in the trees was a panther. This was a black Panther with a gold stripe down his back. This was no ordinary Panther, it was a Cenurian, just like the man walking was. Viclo could smell fox on the man, which meant it was a Kitsune (a fox-man). Kitsune's were not usually seen around these parts, so Viclo, as his duty as a ranger, was going to find out.

Right now, Viclo was cursing himself silently. He had just jumped from one tree to the other, but had jumped off a weak branch, causing it to break and fall. The man had turned around to look at it, but he dismissed it. Viclo was relieved. The man eventually stopped for a apple, which allowed Viclo to rest a little. But he didn't let his guard down. Viclo was being very cautious, making sure there was no way the man could see him. Viclo was upwind of him and quiet, he was a ranger, trained in stealth and quiet pursuit tactics, this was what he was born to do. After a few minutes the man started forward and so did Viclo. He would follow the man and see what happens.

(Sorry about the short post, but I decided just to follow and see what happens.)

Tobi the Exiled

The first rays of the sun came as a relief to Tobi, who had spent the whole night walking down a small dirt path. With the sun illuminating the sky, Tobi can see a fortress up front. Under its walls and keeps was a small bustling castle town. Tobi smiled and thought, Ah perfect. I can stop and rest. I hope there is a decent tavern in there........

Tobi also made a mental note to visit the apothecary (if there was one), to replenish his potion supplies. Maybe he should sleep for awhile too, he was getting tired. It took him nearly twenty minutes to reach the town. The yawning guard didn't worry too much about Tobi and let him pass without an inspection. Must still be thinking about his bed, Tobi chucked to himself as he passed under the stone gate.

The town had just woken up and vendors were busy preparing their stores. The scent of fresh food filled the air, making Tobi even more hungry. He continued down the street, looking around him. This town was unlike the ones he had passed last night. Located under a huge castle, it was considered safe and it brought travelers from all across the world. Judging from its location, this castle must be on the crossroads to Azural. It was a good thing, since Tobi needed some information about what was going on in the rest of the world.

He continued his walk until he saw a small inn called the Red Dragon, which was located near the town square. He opened the door and walked inside. There were some Rangers, quietly talking to themselves. A couple of silk traders sat at another table. And at the bar were some fur merchants from the north. Tobi found himself a table at the corner and sat down. A young maid walked over and said, "Good morning sir. What may I get you?"

Tobi considered for a minute and said, "Some warm beef stew and bread would be nice." The maid nodded and left. Geez I hope she hurries up and brings me my food. I'm starving, he thought to himself. He took out a small map and began looking at it, planning his next move.

Viclo was following the man when it started to get light. He started to try to figure some way he could continue pursuing the man in the day time, when he saw a town and figured that they were headed that way. It took them a while to reach the town, but he stayed back when the man went through the gate. The guard seemed to be tired and just waved the man through. He should never have done that, but Viclo didn't have the time to correct the guard.

While the man was walking under the gate, Viclo tok the quick way and scaled the wall, dropping down into a wagon of hay. He was still Panther when he went into the wagon, but when he emmerged he was human. All that was left of the animal was a tail and gold eyes. His tail was tucked into his shirt and covered by his cloak. As he continued to follow the man, he out the hood up, so all anybody would see was two gold dot's, his eyes.

Viclo noticed the man kept looking around, which meant he was unfamiliar here. As Viclo followed him, the calls of street vendors and beggars assaluted his ears. People were beginning to wake up and move around, which made his job easier. There were always people between the man and him, so he was covered. He weaved in and out of people, never making a fuss or any reason to call attention to himself. Eventually the man came to a tavern called the Red Dragon and went in. Viclo waited a few minutes to lengthen the time between the two entries, then went in.

The man was seated and had just ordered. Viclo saw some rangers and would of sat with them, but didn't want to tip off that he was a ranger. Viclo found a table that had the man's table in sight, but not dead on. Viclo sat down and watched out of the corner of his eye. His hood was still up around his face. A bar maid came up to him. "What can I get you, sir?" Viclo looked at her and said "A glass of Ale if you got it, and some chicken stew." She nodded and went to move off, but Viclo called her back. "If you could get me a room for two day's also?" She nodded again and went to fill the order. He sat back and waited for his order, not looking at the man, but out of the corner of his eye.

Tobi the Exiled

The maid brought Tobi's food faster than he expected and Tobi immediately began munching on it. It wasn't the best food in the world but Tobi was starving. The hot stew was a relief to him, who had just came out of a cold dust storm. As he is eating, he suddenly smelled a cat. Strange, he thought to himself, this cat smells somewhat like a......human? But he quickly dismissed it. Probably because the cat was with its owner too much, he reasoned. Satisfied that the cat problem was solved, he resumed eating.

After he finished, he pushed the plates away from him and leaned back against the soft leather chair. "I better get going," he said softly to himself as he put some gold coins on the table. He got up and left the tavern, but once he reached outside, he saw black rain clouds approaching the town.

Damn. This rain couldn't came at a better time, he thought to himself. One of the things he hated was getting himself wet and dirty. It looked like he needed to forfeit some money and wait a few days. Sighing, Tobi went back into the tavern and approached the owner, a plump, bald man. "I need a room to stay for the day. A good room as well," he said as he pushed some gold and silver coins into the man's hands. The man looked at the coins and smiled. "Right away sir," he said, "the maid will take you."

Tobi followed the maid up the stairs and into a large room with two windows. He paid the maid several silver coins and dismissed her. After closing the door, Tobi started inspecting his room. It was large, complete with its own bathroom, which even had a large tub for bathing. There was a bedroom and even a small room that looked like a den to Tobi. It wasn't a bad room for such a low price.

"Humans," Tobi chuckled to himself as he laid down on the soft mattress of the bed. He needed some good rest after such a tiring night. Maybe when he woke up, the weather would be better.

Viclo was still watching the man, who had already gotten his order, as he got his order. Viclo started to eat slowly and contently as he watched the other man. It seemed as if the man was very hungry, he was bolting down the food. The maid came over to Viclo. "I have a room ready for you, would you like to pay for it now." "After I eat, if you please." The maid nodded and left. Viclo was still finishing his meal when the man go up and got ready to leave. Viclo was going to follow him as the man went out, but the man came back in.

Apparently the man did not like what he saw outside, because he ordered a room for the day. The man walked up the stairs and out of sight. Viclo got up and went to the bar. He got the attention of the Bartender and slid some coins across the bar. "For the room." Viclo then pulled out the token that said he was a ranger and showed it to the bartender. "There may be a little commotion in a little bit, don't worry about it." The bartender seemed a little apprehensive but knew better than to disagree. Viclo walked to the other Rangers and told them the same thing, they understood more readily.

Viclo went back to the bartender and asked for a bottle of Ale, he paid and the bartender obliged. He took it and went outside. I'm going to need some clothes first Viclo thought. So he put the bottle in a pocket and went to the market. He found some thrifty clothes, ones that didn't look to bad, yet didn't say he was dripping with money. HE found a place to change into the new clothes. He went back to tavern and poured more than half of the bottle into the bushes. He then poured a little of the Ale onto himself, just enough to smell like a drunk.

He went back into the tavern, and stopped by his room to drop of his old clothes. He wasn't wearing his cloak now, so his face could be seen. His tail was tucked into his shirt, so that was no problem. His eyes, though, he could do nothing about the golden gleam of his eyes. He then grabbed the bottle and stepped out of his room, and began acting.

He walked down the hall taking swigs from the bottle, walking like a drunk and mumbling to himself like a drunk. When he reached the man's room he tried the door, which he knew was locked, but it was all part of the act. "Wha' the? Why is me door locked." Viclo slurred. He started banging on the door. "Open this door right now? Ya' better open this door!" Viclo shouted, all this was being slurred. If the man opened the door, Viclo knew what he would do next. He would push himself in, while acting drunk, and just try to get a overall view of the room subtly. When he entered the room he would say "Wha' the 'ell are ya doin' in my room?" Now he just had to wait to see if the man would open the door.

((Just so you know, everything said at the door is being slurred, like a drunk person. Just some clarification.)

Tobi the Exiled

A sudden knock and a man's voice woke Tobi, who had just fell asleep. Annoyed, he yelled, "Go away drunkard." But apparently, the man didn't hear him and continued. By now, Tobi was wide awake and quite annoyed. He got up and walked slowly to the door. He was just about to open it, when he something came to mind. What if this is a trap? This man could be a hired muscle to try and kill him. If that was the case, then Tobi isn't going to take this lightly.

Smiling, he used his invisibility spell and disappeared, leaving only a faint silver outline. But since the room was quite dark, the outline was barely visible. Satisfied that he was now invisible, Tobi slowly open the door and silently jumped back. It was time to see who this man really was.

(Have fun!)

(Looks like you need a little help here.)

Jakrah stared down at the town from one of the watchtowers within the castle walls. The sun began to rise and Jakrah thought today was going to be another fine day, but he removed that thought from his head after he saw dark rain clouds heading for the town. "My shift is over, the tower is yours," he said to a guard that just came up. Jakrah sighed and muttered, "I need a drink."

He walked away from the castle and into the city square. All around him people were packing up and going back home. Pretty soon, he was the only one left in the square and the clouds were moving faster. Jakrah decided to head into a tavern and get himself some ale and the nearest one was the Red Dragon. He had never been there before and decided to give it a try.

As he walked in, he noticed several Rangers sitting at a table, muttering to themselves. Jakrah walked over, revealed that he himself was a Ranger, and asked them what was going on. One of the older ones told Jakrah that there was a fight up stairs, between another Ranger and a hooded man. This is worth seeing, Jakrah thought to himself. He decided to buy a drink later and hurried upstairs.

(Thanks, Things should be more interesting.)

Viclo saw the door open by itself, but could smell the man and knew that he was probably invisible. So, still acting the drunk, he proceeded to stumble in through the door. "Wha', this ain't my room. It's too dark." Viclo slurred. He took a look around, acting as if he was trying to find out if it was his room or not. He then stumbled out. As he was walking out, he saw someone familiar. The man he had been talking to by the lake. He thought that maybe the rangers downstairs told him about what was happening here. Viclo couldn't let him blow it, so Viclo started stumbling toward the man.

"Hey, my friend. Ow' ya doin'. Been a long time." Viclo got to him and grabbed him by the shoulders and turned him around and walked him to his room. "Man, why sisn' you tell me this was our room, eh'. I jus' wen' to someone else room." Viclo opened his room and pulled the man in. After he closed the door and locked, he turned to the man. Now he acted normal. "I'm sorry about that. I bet you want a explanation. The best I can say is that I have a hunch."

Viclo sat on the bed and motioned for the other ranger to have a seat. "I was on patrol, when I saw a man traveling alone well past midnight. the first thing I noticed was he was Kitsune, not normally welcome around here. I had a bad feeling about him. In the course of following him, I broke a tree branch accidentally, though a normal enough noise, but when he heard it he looked around fast, as if he thought someone was following him." Then Viclo went on to tell the rest of the story. How the man just slipped into a town because of a sleepy guard, and how the man was extremely hungry in the tavern. Also how just now, instead of confronting the drunk beggar, he turned invisible and opened the door. "So tell me, do you think I was wrong?"

Tobi the Exiled

Tobi was just about to slip out of the room when another Ranger came into view. Tobi quickly rushed back into his room, but he was relieved when they both left and entered another room. Quietly, Tobi sneaked out and put his ears onto the door and began listening. Ah it seems they are unto me, Tobi thought to himself, better get out of here.

Tobi turned and tried to sneak out, but he accidentally hit a maid, who was bring food to one of the rooms, causing her to fall onto the ground. She panicked and screamed when she saw that no one was in front of her. Goddamn it, you just had to scream,Tobi thought to himself, frustrated. The Rangers would have surely heard this and will come out to investigate. And below were more Rangers. It was time to leave. Tobi pulled out a small packet and threw it to the ground, creating a blanket of white smoke. Using that as cover, he dashed down the stairs.
