The Necropolis has returned to full strength, and the protectors, the Haven is falling. The seven artifacts of power has not yet been found, but with each minutes the dark side is growing more powerful.

Now all that stands in their way is you. You have the power to turn the tide of the war. Now you have a decision.

Tetroneaque spun around to face the voice. He cursed the smelly sewers, knowing he would have smelled the person a mile away if not for the overpowering stench of the sewers. He mentally went over his options. He could simply try to outrun the person, but Tetroneaque was tired from all the climbing, jumping, and running from the evening and this person might be fresh enough to catch him. He could attempt to disable the person, but attacking him might provoke him when a confrontation might still be avoided. He could attempt to block off pursuit with one of his little tricks, or perhaps bribe the person to ignore his presence.

Tetroneaque remained in a semi-crouch ready to fight or toss out one of his little vials or paper packets should the person take one step closer.

"Well who's to say you aren't one as well. Honest folk don't usually travel through the sewers." Tetroneaque said slyly. He wasn't going to deny he was an assassin, since he wasn't going to insult this person's intelligence.

"How about I give you a cut of my earnings and you forgot you ever saw me. Sound fair?" Tetroneaque said meaning every word. After all, he'd pick up quite a bit of wealth from the late Lord Goring's bed chamber.

"Not a bad offer," Jakrah said, "but you forgot, I'm a Ranger. The amount of treasures I get from missions and what I earn is probably greater than all those little treasures you carry. I'll cut a deal with you, why don't you tell me who employs you and why a guy like you need some a heavy tome."

"The book is my own business and of no one's concern but my own. The late Lord Goring won't be needing it where he's gone. As for my employer... well I can't tell you that. Clients prefer their confidentiality after all." Tetroneaque stated smugly.

"If you're finished I'd like to get going now before the city guard tighten their search. Lord Goring may have been a corrupt bastard but somehow I still don't think they'll take kindly to having one of their nobles slain." Tetroneaque said, eager to be gone. He was fingering a particular potion hidden up his sleeve at that moment, ready to let loose in the blink of an eye.

Phantom entered the huge oak doors to the mansion. The hallway was dark and completely empty. He figured that the guards probably fled or had joined the chase with the other soldiers. Regardless of which option, the house was empty, not even an animal remained here. Phantom didn't have anything to complain about. This just made his mission so much easier.

Phantom continued down the hallway until he reached a staircase. He climbed it until he reached the third level. According from inside information, this is where Lord Goring lived and kept his most important documents. Normally there would be a problem with trying to find out which door leads to the bed chamber, but when another assassin has already opened it for you, its much simpler. Phantom stepped inside to a room filled with perfume scent and also vomited. Even the forest smelled better than this.

He noted that almost all the treasures were taken from the room, the other assassin must have took it. But treasure isn't what Phantom was looking for. He walked over to the late Lord Goring's desk and searched it. Nothing of interest or value, just some tax reports, letters from his spies, and a list of political enemies. Phantom noticed that the head of the Rangers and every Lord Guardian who supported the Rangers were on top. Little bastard, Phantom thought as he ripped the paper in half. He won't be needing that anymore.

He turned around and continue to search. Most of the drawers contain old letters dating back almost twenty-years, some journals from when he was a soldier, and clothes. There was also a old book shelf but it contained books on alchemy and religion. There were several paintings of the lord, his wives, his sons, and some landscapes. Those would sell well on the market, but that isn't why Phantom was here.

"Damn it, it has to be here somewhere," Phantom muttered. He was very frustrated right now. Perhaps what he was looking for wasn't in the bedroom. Maybe the den? Many political figures kept their important documents in the den. Phantom left the bedroom and entered a room with the sign "DO NOT ENTER" on it. This room was filled with books and shelves. A table was on the far right of the room. Phantom walked over to take a look. Most of the drawers contained documents of political stuff Phantom didn't understand and more tax reports, as well as large books to keep Goring's property and riches in check. Phantom opened it and found out the late Lord Goring has more money than even the king himself.

The items in the last draw caught Phantom's attention. It contained reports of recent troop movements. There were detailed descriptions of each movement, which commander commanded the army, how many men there were, and the location they were moving to. Phantom noticed that most troops were moving towards the Dwarven town of Teedmar. Strange, goblins don't usually travel that far. Why did the king move so many men there? Below the reports, there was a map drawn on a gold paper. The map showed an area Phantom didn't know where. I'll study it later, Phantom thought has he pocketed the map along with the reports.

He then got up and searched the top of the tables. It just contained unfinished reports and more documents. But buried underneath everything else, was an unfinished letter, written in Demonic, the language of the Necropolis. Demonic was not taught and was forbidden by the Haven, but Phantom had learned it when he was younger, during the period when he didn't "exist". It letter read:

"Please show this letter to the Lord Sendokaze. I recently found evidence about the whereabouts of an artifact. It may lead us to the location of one of the sacred Cylixes. This letter cannot fall into enemy hands. that is why I am entrusting it to a demon. The location of the Fire Cylix is in the map. Look at the map and you will understand. I cannot guarantee you the exact location and the map is only a rough estimate

And the letter ends there. So Lord Goring was working for the Necropolis after all. He was searching for the Cylixes and he found something. This was very important, especially for Phantom, so he took the letter. Just when he was about to leave, two books on a shelf caught his eye. These books were old and damaged, and they stood out from all the other books, which were in mint condition. One book was the late Lord Goring's diary, which Phantom threw to the ground. The other was far more interesting and valuable.

Like the letter, it was written in Demonic. This small book was about the Cylixes, it was a research note. Inside was a detailed description and drawing of every Cylix, its shape, history, and where it was last seen. There were also some stories about them, which the late Lord copied onto the book. Phantom smiled as he put the book inside his robes. This was certainly a good haul, more than Phantom had expected to find in this house.

As he walked out of the mansion, guards surrounded him. Phantom showed them his Haven symbol and said, "I am tracking an assassin. I think he went that way. Get him!" Without speaking a word, the guards ran off, eager to catch the criminal. Phantom was about to go back to the bar when he received Jarkah's message. He then ran towards the nearest drain and jumped down.

The trip was much more unpleasant, as the smell was very bad. But Phantom managed to reach there in the end. The assassin was facing towards Jarkah, so Phantom looped around and came up behind him. Smiling, Phantom said, "You aren't going anywhere. Not until you tell us who hired you and who you are first."

"Oh? Brought a friend eh? Well I'm still not telling who I was hired by, like I said that would be bad for business. As to who I am, that will be answered if you go look at the corpse of the man I killed." Tetroneaque said smugly. Then he decided it was time to leave before more troops showed up, every minute he wasted here chatting made it that much more likely he'd be captured. The Kitsune tossed the potion he'd been holding at the stones in front of Jakrah.

As soon as the small glass vial shattered on the sewer floor it erupted in a ball of flames, effectively creating a wall of fire between himself and the first ranger. Tetroneaque tossed a small paper packet at Phantom, which burst on impact releasing a powder. It wasn't a sleeping powder like the first, but instead was a very potent sneezing powder.

Tetroneaque dashed at Phantom, then slid between the man's legs before rolling forward and into a run. He was putting as much distance between himself and these two interlopers as he could. He continued to follow the way the water was flowing. The Kitsune ran as fast as he could, which was very very fast.

I don't see why they want to bother me. I did them all a favor by killing that man. Stinking human ingrates... He thought to himself as he continued to run.

Phantom protected himself from the powder by casting a shield of light. He wasn't surprised when the assassin ran away and he didn't chase him either. He had this all planned out. Pretty soon, the assassin was going to need his help getting away unharmed with all those treasure and a large book.

"Let him run," Phantom said, "we'll see each other soon enough."

Little did the assassin know that the entire first level was now sealed off due to an attack by his shadows and getting out of the city would take miracle.

Sendokaze and eight other Wraiths rode their dark horses and stopped as they reached a hill. Standing up there, they could see the entire city. The first level is shrouded in light and the screams of the humans below could be heard miles away. Something was going on. But Sendokaze didn't care, he had a mission.

He just received a report form a lesser demon that the sleeper agent Tiiko aka Lord Goring, was dead and there might be important documents the agent possess that cannot fall into enemy hands. Sendokaze was sent here along with the others to retrieve those documents and if they are lucky, kill the assassin.

Sendokaze screeched and the Wraiths began moving out. They could kill all in their path and no one could stop them.

Tetroneaque continued to flee the two men. Hopefully his little tricks would have slowed them a bit, but he wasn't sticking around to make sure. He simply ran. The sewers were surprisingly well maintained, but very very filthy. He was just glad that the out flow was easy to follow. He couldn't be sure but it felt like he had been running for almost half an hour before he saw some light up ahead. Sure enough, one of the main drainage pipes led right out. It must have been one of the main ways into the system as it had a barred door on it. The sewage itself went into a small pipe beneath that and probably emptied out near the river. Tetroneaque eyed the smaller pipe, kneeling down to examine it. He tried his best to ignore all the sludge, having given up trying to stay clean this night.

The pipe was small, only about two feet in diameter. Luckily there wasn't any rain or the whole thing would have been full. As it was at the moment, it was only about half full.

I am so going to need a long bath after this... and a good cleaner. He thought to himself with a grimace. He could hear some sort of commotion coming from outside the larger opening. Probably the guards still chasing the whatever it was from the manor. Tetroneaque did not want to get involved in that huge mess. So he simply transformed into his full fox form. His clothes simply dropped to the ground as he crawled out of them as it was faster than disrobing in the traditional manner. He went back to his humanoid form and stuffed his mask into a pocket in his robe and then tied his robe about itself to make sure none of the belongings would spill out.

With another quick shift back to fox form he gripped the bundle in his mouth, not enjoying the taste at all, and began to move backwards down the smaller pipe. He dragged his bundle of belongings as best he could simply moving down the tight space. It was a tight fit even for his small form, but he managed to drag his stuff with him.

It was slow going, but he was making progress. The sounds of the city started to fade with distance and soon all he could hear was his own breathing and the sound of liquid moving. He knew it was a good five miles to the river so he simply took his time. He figured it would probably be near dawn when he emerged near the river. He continued to simply take his time though, nearly exhausted from the night's events.

This has not been one of my favorite missions that's for sure, but at least the job is done.

Tetroneaque stopped several times to rest, as walking backwards while pulling a bundle with your teeth was not the easiest thing in the world. After several hours of moving like this he finally felt a cool breeze on his tails and could hear the sound of water splashing. He smiled and hurried his pace a bit, eager to be out of that wretched, stinking plumbing. With a few more minutes, he finally was free and fell out into the water. He changed back into his humanoid form as he hit the water, grabbing his bundle and holding it above the water. Swimming with one arm was not easy, but he managed. At least it was easier than the time he had to do it with an arrow stuck in one arm.

After what seemed like an eternity, but was really only five minutes, he climbed out of the water and onto the shore. He could see the city's torches in the distance, several miles away and across the water.

"Thank goodness that's done with. I need a bath." He shook himself mostly dry and untied his robe and got dressed. It may have been night, but he wasn't about to risk walking around nude.

"ACHOO!" He sneezed suddenly.

"Great, I think I'm coming down with a cold..." He mumbled to himself and began to tromp off. Hopefully no one else would bother him this night. Now he simply needed to get to his small boat near the mouth of the river and he would be home free.

As Sendokaze and his Wraiths were riding towards the city when he saw a dark figure approaching out of a sewer. Since it was night, Sendokaze's eyesight was increased tenfold. He also sensed dark mana taint on the figure's body and he smelled of sewers. This is very suspicious to the Wraith and he was sure this figure was the assassin.

In a few short moments Sendokaze rode up the figure. The other eight was safely hidden around the area, ready to come out in a moment's notice. Sendokaze said in a course voice, "Who paid you to kill him, assassin?"

"Your mother." Tetroneaque said in that annoyingly cocky tone he used when he was past the point of caring. It was s how of bravado though and little else. Tetroneaque felt the fur standing on end all over his body, this person was no human... or anything alive. The whatever it was has no scent what so ever. Tetroneaque was a quick thinker though and also planned ahead quite well.

He slipped another of his little vials into his hand and then squeezed his eyes shut. He hated using such an expensive to make potion, but it was better than getting killed for holding on to it. He slammed the vial down on the ground between himself and the dark rider. It burst with a brilliant blast of light designed to blind anyone looking at it. Someone looking right at it and that close range might very well go blind permanently.

Tetroneaque did wait around though as the horse began to whinny and kick out in panic at the sudden blast of intense light. He turned and ran for his life. He knew his boat wasn't too far off, all he had to do was make it there first.

That light will have easily been spotted by the city as well. I better high tail it before they send someone to investigate.
