Kisuke walks out of the meeting hall muttering about the assignment the elven elders gave to him. "Damn elders needing me to do the grunt work involving humans." He continued to walk with his head down until one of the king's royal guard walks up to him and says, "Lord Kisuke the king requests to meet with you, he said it was of the utmost importance." Kisuke sighs and thinks to himself, "Probably greedy for more elven crafts again." "Sure, I'll go to the palace to see him." The guard replies, "Thank you my lord."

Kisuke continues walk and mutter until he walks into someone, he looks up and noticed the person he knocked over in a mask and cloak. He then says, "I'm sorry are you okay?" He then extends a hand to pull the man he knocked over up.

Tetroneaque was surprised when he rounded a corner and slammer right into someone. He shook his head to clear it and took the offered hand for help standing back up.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Just in a hurry. No harm done, but I've got to get going. Have a deadline to meet and all that." Tetroneaque said as he dusted himself off and then took off down the street. He rounded another corner and went down another alley. He quickly climbed the walls and made his way up to this level's rooftops. He had about a five minute run to the next wall where he could ascend to the third level.

That was a bit careless of me. Got to be more careful. He thought to himself as he continued to run and jump. Soon he was at the next wall and already on his way up. He climbed that wall just like he had the first. Again he took a moment to catch his breath at the top before continuing onward.

Phantom followed close behind the masked man, respectively keeping his distance. He was a Ranger, meaning that he knew where all the shortcuts and secret alleyways were. He noticed the man's pattern, he was going up the levels, which means that his business was either on level 6 or 7.

Phantom took out his two way mirror and said, "Jakrah can you hear me? I need you to wait for me on Level 7, by the Royal Palace Inn. I think our target might be up to something."

"Yeah I hear you," Jakrah said quietly into the mirror, so he wouldn't draw attention to himself. When Phantom finished his message, Jakrah threw three gold coins on the table and left. When he was outside, he quickly entered a dark alleyway and looked behind to make sure he wasn't followed. Being a Ranger, you always have to be prepared for the worst.

He came across a hole on the ground, with spiderwebs covering it. Jakrah took out his knife and created a hole big enough for him to enter. He was in a abandoned sewage tunnel, one of the original ones of the city. When the newer, larger tunnels were built, these ones were closed. However the tunnels was a quicker way to get to the levels.

Jakrah took out a flare and lit it, so he can see. And then he started running. He should be at the seventh level in about ten minutes. He took out his mirror and said, "Phantom, I'm on my way towards the seventh level. If he is there, I'll intercept him."

Tetroneaque was taking a round about way to the seventh level, doing his best to assure no one would follow him. At the very least it would make following him a huge pain in the rear. He wasn't too worried about the local guards and such, as he could easily out maneuver them since they mostly wore bulky armor.

It awhile, but he eventually found his way to the top of the wall of the seventh level. He could see the wall separating the seventh and eighth levels from where he stood. There were patrols visible in the streets here, which was no surprise as this was one of the wealthiest sections of the entire city, probably entire country. There was a lot of lighting as well, making shadows few and far between. That was fine, he enjoyed a challenge. He watched as a patrol of guards marched by below and then hopped down behind them, dashing across the street and over the nearest fence before they even thought to look behind themselves.

Humans are so predictable. He thought to himself smugly. He knew exactly where he was now, which meant his target's home was only about a block away.

The masked Kitsune stealthily made his way toward the house, who's yard he was standing in currently, and proceeded to scale it's walls as easily as he had every wall before it. Once on the roof he took a quick look around to get his bearings and then sprinted away. It wouldn't be long before he was at the manor house of the necromancer who fancied himself a noble.

I don't see why the Mage Clans wanted me to take care of this jerk. If these humans can't take care of themselves I don't see why I should put my nose in their business. Oh well, at least I get to rid the world of one corrupt human tonight and maybe come away with a nice souvenir. He chuckled to himself at that thought.

He paused among some rather ornate gargoyles on the roof he was standing on as he peered toward his target. A huge manor house that looked perfectly normal. Other than the obvious wealth being displayed by its luxurious exterior it seemed quite normal. Yet the fur on Tetroneaque's neck was standing on end now which meant someone was using magic nearby, and quite a lot of it too. Tetroneaque looked up at the sky and noticed it was a new moon. He swore.

Crap! Why didn't I think of that sooner!?! Necromancers are at their strongest during nights with no moonlight. Well maybe this can still work to my advantage. Perhaps he'll be too occupied with some sort of ritual or something and I can off him easily... I hope. Tetroneaque reassured himself that all his tools were in place and then made his way toward the manor. He had to get into the streets again, but managed to get across without any patrols spotting him. He was in the manor's courtyard within moments and there were no guards to be seen.

Surely it can't be this easy. He thought to himself as the fur on the back of his neck continued to stand on end. That bad feeling simply continued to grow.

Well, well, what do we have here? Phantom thought to himself. This was certainly something new for Phantom. It seemed clear to Phantom now that the man's target was the noble, Lord Goring. A renowned politician and a corrupt one as well. Phantom could tell by his house. There was more to Goring's story than that.

About a year ago, Goring managed to get a resolution passed the emperor and into the Haven Council in An-Havva. The resolution called for the Rangers to disband and all Rangers put under house arrest. It failed, but Goring wasn't going to admit defeat. He has been making work harder and harder for the Rangers and never missed an opportunity to kill one of them. Every single Ranger wanted him dead.

There were also rumors that he worships Hellron and secretly practices dark magic. It was of course a rumor, but Phantom was sure it was true. It was because that he could use dark magic himself that Phantom could detect a strong presence of black mana in the area. So the rumors were true after all.

Phantom considered his options for awhile. He could help whoever it was down there to kill Goring (he was pretty sure that the man was an assassin). Then he would disappear when the job was done, so no one would know he did it. Or he could simply just let him do it on his own, in which case the success rate wouldn't be very high.

Why don't I lend him a hand? Phantom thought. He created a shadow figure, resembling a assassin, and sent it towards the guards. He ordered it to kill some of them and then run to the other side. This way the guards would be too occupied with something else to deal with a real assassin. He then extinguished all the lights within the area, making it pitch black, which furthered the guard's inability to find the real assassin.

When that was done, Phantom took out his mirror and said quietly, "Jakrah, the man we are tracking is an assassin and it is clear to me his target is our common enemy Lord Goring. I've decided to help him from the shadows, this way we can take Goring out and no one will ever know we did it. Oh, and yes, all the rumors about him practicing dark magic is true."

Tetroneaque was debating which method of entry might prove the best when suddenly a bit of commotion broke out near the manor. A figure of pure shadow simply appeared and attacked the guards, he watched as two guards simply crumpled under the assault and the other two gave to chase. He heard other guards stomping to the other side of the building to head off the would be assassin.

"Oh what the blazes was that? No one told me there was another assassin... and a terrible one at that." He muttered under his breath. His job just became a lot more complicated.

Great. Now the whole place will by on guard. Damn rookies! Tetroneaque decided to make the best of a bad situation as he scaled a nearby tree and managed to leap from it's highest point to land lightly on the roof of the manor. He could here shouts coming from below as the guards fought off whatever it was that had suddenly appeared. He ignored them all as he swung down off the roof and onto the window ledge of a third story window. Tetroneaque smoothly drew out a small glass cutter and went to work. He made a small hole just large enough for his hand to slip through and unlocked the latch to admit himself. He made sure to place the piece of glass on the sill outside so it wouldn't be noticed.

Once inside he closed the window again, latching it once more. Hopefully no one would notice the small breeze coming through the hole. He was a bit surprised to notice that there weren't any lights on in the house, not that it bothered him though since he could see in the dark perfectly fine. He could still here some commotion from outside and cursed silently again. He preferred to slip in, get the job done, and slip back out without alerting anyone. Now he had to deal with a bunch of paranoid house guards and most likely pissed off necromancer who would be alerted and probably using magic to sniff out any assassins. If he hurried his pace though, he might kill the lord before he became aware of Tetroneaque.

The Kitsune stalked toward the lord's bedroom. It was easy enough to find, as the lush carpeting led right to it. The ostentatious double doors were also a hint. Tetroneaque tried the door, it was of course locked. He shot a glance either way down the hall and then pulled out a small glass vial. Normally he'd just pick the lock, but he didn't have the time. He popped the cork on the vial and poured it over the metal part of the door. The acid ate through the locking mechanism in moments and Tetroneaque pushed the doors open only to be greeted by... nothing.

Why would the door be locked if he's not in here? Tetroneaque wondered, closing the doors behind him.

Tetroneaque pushed his mask up and sniffed at the air. It smelled like perfume and flowers and was excessively strong. He quickly pushed his mask back down into place.

"Sheesh. That's a bit strong even for a smelly human." He commented and began to look around the room. Everything looked like a normal lord's bedroom. He'd know, he'd killed quite a few over the years. Tetroneaque went over the fireplace, drawn to it by it's unusual cleanliness. There wasn't even a spot of soot on in or any ash inside. That was suspicious. The fact that the heavily perfumed scent seemed to be emanating from it as well made it down right weird.

Tetroneaque knelt down in the fireplace and pushed on several bricks. He was pretty sure a hidden passage was concealed there. After a couple minutes his persistence paid off and the back of the fireplace slid out of the way. Tetroneaque was almost knocked on his tails by the sheer force of perfumed scent coming out of the opening now. He held his breath and went down the pathway. The scent got stronger the further he went and was almost overwhelming. There were rose petals strewn all over the floor, releasing a burst of smell with each step. Tetroneaque hurried his pace as he simply couldn't hold his breath any longer. The thick scent was about to knock him out. The further he went though he began to notice a change to the odor, the sickly sweet smell of decay.

"Oh yeah, this is definitely a necromancer's lair." Tetroneaque stated to himself. He was pretty sure all those flowers and perfume were there to mask the scent of death and decay coming from below. He had noticed the pathway had began to spiral downward subtlety. He reckoned he might be somewhere in the basement by now. Now the flowery scent was weak, but the small of rotting flesh was now almost overwhelming. Tetroneaque wished he hadn't eaten earlier as the urge to vomit was becoming quite strong.

After a bit longer the tunnel began to stop angling downwards and simply went straight ahead with no curves. Tetroneaque readied himself for anything, knowing the end of the hidden passage was fast approaching. He could hear chanting from ahead, that was never a good sign when dealing with magic types. Tetroneaque eased himself out of the doorway and into a massive underground chamber. He totally forgot about the smell when he saw the source.

Human corpses were piled all over the place. Some were stripped of their flesh and hanging in obscene ways from various hooks on the walls. Symbols drawn in blood decorated nearly every inch of the room. In the center stood the target, a rather finely dressed man of middle years. He was holding a still beating heart in one hand and a finely crafted silver goblet in the other that was bubbling with some foul liquid.

"Ah. So you finally arrived." The man stated, his back still to Tetroneaque. The kitsune froze in place. "What news do you bring me?" Tetroneaque calmed himself as he saw a blue fire form in front of the necromancer. A figure was within it and seemed to be speaking words Tetroneaque couldn't understand. It was a hideous little demon, or at least the image of one. It continued to converse with the necromancer, who seemed totally oblivious to Tetroneaque's presence. Not knowing how long that would last, the assassin decided to act quickly. He approached the man as quietly as he could, sticking to the shadows. It seemed the lord was unaware of the disturbance up above in the courtyard. Tetroneaque silently thanked whatever gods might be looking over himself and prepared to strike. He slipped his long dagger from his sleeve and crouched down, ready to spring.

He suddenly leaped from his position near a pile of corpses, with his dagger aimed at the man's back. The hideous little creature in flames suddenly let out a surprised squeek, causing Lord Goring to turn around. To turn around just in time to catch the dagger right through the heart. The point came out near the man's back as he slumped forward. The strange fire in the center of the room went out as easily as a snuffed candle, sending the room into total darkness.

"You're an evil man Lord Goring. If you had simply remained a corrupt official feeding off the poor you might have lived. You had to delve into the dark arts and sell your soul though. I hope you enjoy meeting your dark master." Tetroneaque said coldly as he twisted the dagger and then wrenched it out. He wiped the blade clean on the man's fancy clothes before putting it back in its usual hiding spot. The Kitsune pulled out a small metal disc from his robe and carefully placed it on the dead man's chest.

"If anyone finds your rotten body at least they'll know that it was I who slew you." Tetroneaque stated and then turned to leave. Eager to be away from all the death in the room. He felt like he'd stink for weeks after this and sorely craved a bath. A large tome caught his eye though. It was bound in red leather and the words on the pages seemed to emit a faint glow. Tetroneaque figured it might be the tome he'd been after so he closed the book. He tore off a clean section of clothing from the dead necromancer and placed the book in that, folding the cloth over the book to keep it safe. He put the tome in a large pocket inside his own robe and then turned to leave. He began to run down the hidden passage he'd used to get in. With any luck he'd make a clean get away.

Phantom raised more shadows and ordered them to fight. Pretty soon, there was a small army of shadows slaughtering the guards in the pitch black streets. Before the city could respond with any more troops, Phantom ordered all the shadows to descend the fifth level. An army of guards chased them and soon the seventh level was quiet.

Phantom stepped out of the shadows and into the courtyard of Lord Goring's house. The necromancer must be dead, as the black mana around the house began to dampen. Now Phantom has to go inside and take a few documents of importance to him.

Tetroneaque emerged back into Lord Goring's bed chamber. He never thought he'd enjoy that overpowering scent of flowers and perfume, but it was a blessing after that dank pit of rotting corpses. He didn't bother closing the secret entrance in the fireplace, preferring that whomever came afterwards to find the body and all the evidence of the man's evil. He took a few moments to catch his breath, slowly and carefully rifling through the dead man's belongings. There were some documents, mostly stuff dealing with the lord's 'day job'. Tetroneaque didn't bother with any of those. He found a small stash of jewels in a leather pouch in the desk, and quickly pocketed that.

"Heh, he won't be needing these where he's gone." Tetroneaque chuckled to himself. He continued to leisurely check for items of value or interest. A small silver ring shaped like a fox's head with the tail wrapping around to form the band caught the Kitsune's eye. The eyes of the ring were tiny little emeralds and the ring reminded Tetroneaque of himself.

"I suppose even evil bastards can have at least a little good taste." He said as he pocketed the ring as well.

Tetroneaque continued to look around the room a bit more, taking a few small sculptures that he thought looked interesting as well as a few more caches of gold or silver coins. All in all he had a small fortune in trinkets now. He judged they he'd taken enough stuff to cover his tracks regarding the tome and decided it was time to leave before anyone showed up. Tetroneaque looked over at the fireplace and was struck with inspiration. He went over to the fireplace and began to make his way up the chimney.

The chimney was just as clean as the fireplace itself, no soot at all. It seemed the late Lord Goring had never felt the need to have a fire in his chambers, or at least had his servants clean the thing meticulously between fires. Either way it helped Tetroneaque out as he didn't have to worry about slick soot ruining his grip.

After about twelve minutes the Kitsune popped out of the chimney and onto the roof. He tossed a look around and his ears flicked toward the sound of something happening a couple levels down. It was a quiet night other than that, otherwise he might have missed those sounds.

"Sheesh. So much noise. I guess I'll need to find an alternate route out of the city now. There is bound to be guards at every level's checkpoint by now with all that commotion." He sat down a moment to rest as he thought on his options of getting out of the city now. He rest his back against the chimney, sitting in the shadow.

I suppose I could use my shadow step to simply bypass everything to about the fourth level, but that would drain me quite a bit. Nah, better save my energy in case things go bad. Can't climb the walls down now, all that ruckus is sure to have every guard in the whole damn city up and about now. I'd be a sitting duck if one happened to see me on the wall. I guess that leaves... the sewers. This night just keeps getting better. He sighed. The thought of using the stinking sewers did not sit well with the Kitsune or his sensitive nose. Though it would probably not be anywhere as bad as that secret chamber in Goring's home.

After a few more minutes of rest, Tetroneaque stood up and decided he'd better get a move on. He hopped from window ledge to window ledge until he was on the ground level. Then one last jump saw him to the grass.

"Hey you!" Someone called behind Tetroneaque. The Kitsune didn't bother turning to check who it was, he simply pulled a small paper packet from his robe and tossed the ball at the person. It burst on impact sending out a powder. The man Tetroneaque hit simply slumped over and started snoring. He may have been an assassin, but no need to get the local guards ticked off by killing one of their own. Rendering the man unconscious was just as effective to Tetroneaque as taking him out permanently.

The Kitsune made his way away from the manor as quick as he could, he paused a moment on the fence. He simply balanced on top like a gargoyle as he scanned the street for a sewer entrance. He spotted one, a simple storm drain. It would be a tight fit, but Tetroneaque was pretty sure he could manage.

He dashed toward the drain and promptly stripped down, shoving all his things into the drain. Then he turned into his full fox form and slipped down the small hole. Once inside he took his humanoid form and redressed. There was no way anyone would be following him through that hole. He chuckled to himself and then began to navigate his way through the underground sewer network, making sure to take the pipes that led downward. He knew all he had to do was follow the flowing water and he'd come out where it all emptied.

Jakrah was making his way up the sewers when he hard approaching footsteps. He quickly hid in the shadows to prevent being seen by whoever was coming. Judging by the footsteps, whoever it was over there was quite skilled in fast movement, which might make him their assassin. Jakrah took out his mirror and said, "Phantom, sewer 67 and 68 intersection. I found our assassin."

When the person passed him, Jakrah stepped out of the shadows and said, "Well, well, look who it is. An assassin."
