Akaron was most displeased with the current state of affairs. It wasn’t bad enough that it was cold, but the wind was picking up as well, sending the temperature down a few more degrees. Not that it really mattered at these temperatures, any long term exposure would cause damage to the poor soul trapped in this wintry hell hole. It hadn’t been more than a few minutes from when Akaron left the tree line and was now lost in the field of white that something struck his armor from behind. Whipping around, Akaron readied himself in a battle stance, but there was nothing there. Inspecting his being he only saw snow, no tears or cuts, just more snow. Puzzled, Akaron continued on, believe that a large deposit of snow from his helm had fallen and stuck his shoulder. But after a couple of minutes, he felt it again and again there was nothing but snow. Looking out into the white haze that shortened visibility to a mere fifty feet, Akaron scanned the area. But not matter how hard he looked; he could never see anything, just the ever constant screen of white. But always the pulling, the calling, drove him deeper into the storm, looking for something he knew not what. But he continued onward. Finally it seemed that the constant pelting he kept feeling stopped, but this was soon replaced with howls and groans, sounds that did not belong out here in this white field. Looking around, Akaron was prepared to fight and defend himself from what ever was making these noises. But nothing came, no great beast, no horrid undead, nothing. Cursing himself for letting strange noises bother him, Akaron turn back to the direction that the calling came from. He knew that the wind could make strange sounds and that being on edge tended to make you believe that these noises were more than just that, noises. With time this two passed. *Finally, thought Akaron, my mind has been playing tricks on me all day.* Walking forward as he always did, Akaron felt at peace here in the frozen waste, but that was shattered again by something not as unseen as the other oddities this day. A man, dressed in furs ran past him screaming at the top of his lungs. But this wasn’t any normal man, while his upper body was that of a man, his lower body was that of a large cat of some sort. Akaron called for the strange being to halt but it kept running until it disappeared from sight. This was the last straw, Akaron had had enough, he was going to follow this creature and discover what it was. Moving over to the tracks it had left in the snow Akaron followed them. Thinking to himself Akaron was curious if this being was responsible for the tracks he had seen earlier. If so then perhaps it could be a guide if it wasn’t too hostile. But he wasn’t about to get his hopes up. The tracks went a short distance before stopping dead. Looking around it seemed that the creature that he had seen had simply vanished into thin air. But then Akaron noticed the tree not to far away from where the tracks ended. Looking at the tree and the area around it, Akaron noticed that there were piles of snow n the ground of unusual height and shape, almost as it they were caused by falling snow from the branches due to something shaking them. Dropping into a defensive stance, Akaron spoke with a loud clear voice that could be heard over the howling with. "Show yourself creature, or I shall come and get you. Believe me, you do not want me to do that, it would be most unpleasant. Now, come down from that tree or by the pits of hell I will bring the tree down with you in it!" Standing his ground Akaron would give the creature a chance to come down before it came down with the tree. |
