For centuries, the people of Greycoast and Berin have channeled the power of magic to do many wondrous and horrible things. From the old days, where wizards could unleash storms of chaos and violence to turn the tide of war, to the Myrkin spiritualists who called upon their ancestors, to the Melekure druids to commune with nature itself, to the paladins and necromancers using the power given them by a deity Listed below are the five forms of magic spread throughout the lands Ether Magic Viewed by many as nothing more than the raw power of magic, the most basic component needed to use the elemental arts, ether magic is misunderstood. True, it is the most basic form of magic; true, it is simply a raw element in need of true purpose. Before one can learn to use elemental magic, they must first learn how to harness the power of ether As a basic element lacking so much purpose, ether is very passive in how it can be used. Unlike elemental magic, ether is a neutral power with no true facet of power besides itself. Capable of being used to enhance a weapon's effectiveness or deflect any number of things, including arrows and magic, ether is a wonder. The use of ether upon an object or around the user is easily identified by the signature purple-pink hue of its effects Elemental Magic Considered the only 'true' form of magic by the majority of wizards and scholars, elemental magic is the biggest leap for any aspiring apprentice of the arcane arts. As it is a much more active form of magic, actually unleashing elemental magic requires one to intertwine both ether and an element of their choosing. Once a user chooses how they will twine their ether and element, they can proceed to unleash a myriad of spells. Below are the specifics of each prime element; fire, water, wind, earth, and shadow Fire Lively, destructive, punishing Many battlemages choose fire for its sheer destructive power, capable of searing flesh from bone or turning grasslands and forests into charred wastelands. Beware, however.. an inexperienced user might very well find themselves at the mercy of their own creation before they even realize it. Before one can use fire, there must first be a source of fire from which to draw upon, quite often extinguishing the original source to fuel the living flame. Once the user has a living flame, they must continue to feed it ether to keep it alive to fuel their spells Water Passive, amorphous, merciful While it is nowhere near as powerful as fire, water in turn has its own strengths. Capable of slowing and hindering its targets, water can be an invaluable ally the likes of which is rivaled only by fire. Unlike fire, however, water doesn't consume nearly as much ether, requiring very little to remain alive and at the user's command. However, the ability of water is limited by the space in which the caster themselves are standing Wind Swift, direct, volatile Unlike water and fire, wind is everywhere, always at the beck and call of the master, though it often reveals its volatile nature. Requiring a moderate application of ether, wind requires a steady hand to maintain control. However, with the demand for control comes a faithful servant, capable of striking swift, harsh blows at the enemy. The speed of wind is unmatched by any, what it lacks in true power made up for in sheer quantity Earth Enduring, stable, reliable The last of the four elements, earth is unmatched when it comes to defense. Requiring a moderate amount of direct ether, earth magic is capable of calling forth durable shields of stone to protect the caster and allies or to break loose jagged shards of stone with which to hurl at the foe. Whether one wishes to crush their foe beneath tons of stone or protect their allies, earth will stand as a resolute ally Shadow Subtle, insidious, deceitful Representing the darker side of magic, the element of shadow. Shadow magic is often affiliated with necromancers, warlocks, and demons, and suspicion clouds the minds of the uneducated. Those who specialize in the use of shadow magic are known as shadowcasters, who are feared by the public, and rightly so. In order to tap into the shadow element, one must learn to tap into the plane of shadow, wherein lies the true power of shadow. But be warned, what one brings back from the shadow plane isn't always what they had intended.. Spiritual Magic More often than not, spiritual magic is mistaken for witchcraft and sorcery. Used mainly by the barbaric tribes of the Blackwater Isles, Myrkin of South Berin to commune with their ancestor spirits, and by the Melekure druids to commune with the plants and animals around them, it is a force to be reckoned with. In order to utilize spiritual magic, one must first be in tune with their true self, understand what they truly want, know their place in life, and be content with who and what they are Divine Magic Through their resolute faith to the deity they worship, there are people capable of calling forth the power of a higher being to aid them in their struggles. Be it a cleric or healer to mend the wounds of those around them, a paladin to banish creatures of the dark, or a necromancer to bring back the once living, divine magic comes in many forms Catalytic Magic Through the use of a catalyst and its special cartridges, one can unleash devastating magic upon the world. Using their magic and knowledge, the men of old were able to contain within special cartridges the very power they wielded. The types of magic varied, from being able to unleash fiery infernos, hurricane-force winds, massive moving waves of earth to divine bursts of power to rival even the most skilled of paladins |
