I've had a few theories in my time, and I even got theories from writing out the plot for FF8-2 (how the hell does that happen >:(). I personally think fans focused too much on the whole Ultimecia thing and didn't seem to care about the dude who managed to blow up my entire party without much hassle while Ultimecia didn't. I was kind of surprised when Squall didn't say anything when it turned up...
