I agree it is bar far the most talked about one, but I think it iffers a very interesting idea, following the tragic love story idea, such a Julia and Laguna, Raine and Laguna, and to a much less extent, Quistis' original "love" for Squall. Oh, and the whole Rinoa loving Siefer at first and then first thinking he was dead, then having to fight him... As for Ultimecia being Quistis... I had never thought about it... She does fit the sort of lonely person longing for someone (in my opinion) so it could be plausible... And then the whole saving Squall's life could be said to have happened due to some residual "motherly instinct" over him... Of course, then there's also the fact that she would know what would happen as well... Another theory I read once is that Ultimecia could have just been a normal girl who inheritted sorceress powers in the near future or present day. Then, due to the hype of the Sorceress attacks and take over of Galbadia etc... People grow to hate sorcerresses even more. Then this innocent, little girl grows up as a Sorceress, with even treating her horridly, and fearing her to be Ultimecia. She is disgarded by society, and her pain and torment turn to anger and rage, equating to the following sort of sentence: "You want me to be Ultimecia? Fine! Then as of today, I am Ultimecia!" Thus, Ultimecia is born through the fear of Ultimecia created by SeeD and Garden, as well as the rest of the world, and of her future selfs actions... This also fits the tragic style of some of FFVIII's events
