What are the rules regarding high-tier characters like some of those posted above. They have way more powerful abilities than a staring character ought to have, for example.
Black Knight's not really a character, just an antagonist. I just tried to use general common sense and flesh out the clear definitions and limitations of his abilities, sticking to the main theme that he is a "dark knight" and thus shouldn't have say, a crazy magical spell that freely manipulates elements or summons or some other type of ability--at least not until we learn more about Attunement and I figure out whether or not I want to do something with that. I also gave clear indications of how to beat him and implications for different states he might be put in over the course of the battle. He's strong, but he also has weaknesses, and he sticks to a perceivable pattern whether it's combat tactics or personality.

Given Burnt's current rate of approval, he'd probably be fine with most things that aren't out and out stupidly OP.

Name: Magnar
Race: Human
Age: Mid-twenties
Sex: Male
Appearance:
Atop Magnar's head is a thick mop of black shoulder length hair. He keeps it tied back in a short ponytail to keep it out of his eyes. Said eyes are a brown so dark they're nearly black, only certain lightning revealing their true color. His nose is average for his background, but it's crooked from being broken a few times. More hair was on his face, a thick and orderly goatee surrounding lips that are on the thin side.

He's not a particularly tall man, only getting up to five feet and nine inches. But he's still fairly imposing regardless. He's got a good build, strong muscle that's a little on the bulky side. But he's also got a solid layer of fat, softening the appearance of his muscle. His skin is sun darkened and oddly lacking in blemishes. No scars to be had. Or maybe they're just hidden behind all the body hair, giving him a semblance to a bear.

Background:
Nothing much could be said about Magnar's youth. He was born into a noble family, the name of which he forsook since they did nothing but flee when Ganondorf came. But Magnar was always a 'help the people' type of guy. Preferring to do his own work and help others when he could. He was like that even before Ganondorf's reign, helping those he could with what he knew. It was doing stuff like that and helping fight off monsters and raiders that earned him a title of Knight, and from some people he healed, Paladin.

While his family fled at the slightest whiff of danger he did a very smart thing. Before rupees became completely worthless he used all of them on weapons and armor. He stashed them in a secret vault on his families ancestral grounds. Namely to arm people with when he could come back for them. Which eventually did happen. What few re-deads remained in Castletown he destroyed with iron and fire. Making sure they'd STAY dead this time.

While the people returned he handed out the stashed equipment, arming, or in some cases rearming, guards, militia, knights, and whoever else desired protection. He still had quite a bit left over and left it in the vault to either use as currency or in case more people showed themselves.

The only people he didn't arm were the Cult of Link. They seemed far to destructive and bigoted to be trusted with more quality pieces of equipment. As hypocritical as it was he just couldn't bring himself to trust a bunch of vandals bent on the destruction or subjugation of non-hylians. It solved nothing and only made things more strained and dangerous.

Magnar sadly missed the newest raid on Castletown during a self given patrol to the west near the Gerudo's. He did hear about a motley crew wiping out a big chunk of it and taking out the lieutenants of the blin forces. Oddly the resident lizalfos, a zora who he thought were extinct, a young woman, and a sheikah. He missed them as well, they all went out into Hyrule field that night to who knows where. The lizalfos had returned but went right back out with another group of people. So now he lingered in Castletown to congratulate the group.

Equipment:

  • Weapon(s): Spiked Mace: A simple weapon really. A wood haft made of hardwood with a cloth wrap for a grip. A spiked head made of iron is fastened to the haft.

  • Off-hand: Tower Shield: A huge slab of wood with a metal sheet covering it. It's quite hefty and is great at blocking all manner of things.

  • Armor: Half Plate: A set of armor based for mobility with defense on the essentials. Metal plates covering the torso, head, and arms. But leather and thick cloth for the legs and hands.

  • Accessory: N/A

  • Inventory: N/A

Elemental Affinity:
Spirit
Earth

Abilities:

  • Aegis: Rank 1: A spiritual shield covers him from head to toe, overlapping his armor. It reduces damage for magical abilities and weapons.

  • Break Time: Rank 1: As long as he's not getting attacked he can heal himself. A dull blue glow engulfs whatever wounds he possesses and starts to close them up, knit them together, etc, until he's fully healed and rearing to go again.

  • Pitfall: Rank 1: As the name suggests a pit opens up in the ground beneath a small cluster of targets. The bit is roughly six feet diameter and ten feet deep.

  • Tomb: Rank 1: Solid slabs of earth surround a single target and collapse in on themselves. The weight and force crushing the target within.

Lord of the Octoroks, all hail!
Name: Oldrich Velda
Race: Sheikah.
Age: 30.
Sex: Male.

Appearance:
Posted Image

Background:
Standing at almost six feet, the man who calls himself Oldrich is usually seen wearing a crimson robe and yellow tinted spectacles, but despite his mysterious appareance and reclusive nature, a few strands of stray blond-silver hair reveal his identity as a member of the legendary sheikah. Most curious about this, however, is that this tribe, sworn to protect the descendants of the goddess Hylia, were hunted to extinction by Ganondorf during his seven year reign — this is definetly a fate that this man would have shared, if not for his decision to forsake those vows before the massacre began to dedicate himself to his research involving the magical understanding of the creatures that roam the world.

Despite this, the agents of the dark lord were able to find and capture the rogue sheikah, and he was brought before Ganondorf himself. In exchange for his life, Oldrich would continue his research within the labyrinthian confines of Ganon's Castle and share his results with the monstrous king. A prisioner in all but name, Oldrich was unable to escape until the end, when the castle that imprisioned him collapsed and he used his abilities to escape.

With Hyrule in a state of chaos, Oldrich Velda now lives within a secluded village in the southern part of the country, finally being able to put his research into practice. Despite his newfound freedom, the memories of his imprisionment continue to torment him, and the souvenir he took from Ganondorf's possesions during his escape is, unbeknownst to him, more dangerous than it seems...

Equipment:

  • Trident of Power: A large trident imbued with powerful dark magic, which Oldrich stole from Ganondorf's treasures just as the castle was collapsing. Despite being a weapon designed for close combat, with the modifications that the dark lord made on it, it can be used as a magic staff. It seems to posess a mind of its own...
  • Crimson Robes: A set of crimson colored robes without any special abilities or characteristics.
  • Phylactery: A lantern-like artifact hidden within Oldrich's robes. It glows a faint blue light. Contains the souls captured by Oldrich's "Capture" magic spell.

    • Soul of a Keese
    • Soul of a Dodongo
    • Soul of an Octorok

Elemental Affinity:
Posted Image Posted Image

Abilities:

  • Capture: A magic spell developed using ancient sheikah techniques and combining them with Oldrich's own innovations, it allows the user to capture a being's soul. In order for a being's soul to be exposed for capture, its material container must expire and the spell must be activated at the moment of expiration. The user must posess some sort of container to hold the soul, usually an empty bottle will suffice, though Oldrich himself has developed an artifact that can hold several souls at once (see "Phylactery" in Equipment).
  • Posession: A magic spell that allows the user to manipulate captured souls in order to posess inanimate objects. In practice, the effect is similar to that of a telekinesis spell. Each soul being used for this spell can only manipulate a single object.
  • Phantom: A magic spell that allows the user to materialize and manipulate a phantom, a shadow manifestation of a captured soul. The phantom usually posesses the same affinities and abilities that the soul's original container had, but they also gain a shadow affinity even if the original soul's container didn't have it, and thus are extremely vulnerable to light-elemental magic. Being made of shadow magic, the phantom can be dissipated, made intangible, and made invisible — though it is not able to attack during in any of those states.

    • Phantom Keese
    • Phantom Dodongo
    • Phantom Octorok

It's semi-open world, meaning that as long as it doesn't directly interfere with my main plot I won't shoot it down. Like Onime said, anything that's not blatantly broken is fine by me. If you want to make a stronger character for something you're more than welcome to. Right now, the only stuff that's totally off-limits are certain other lands (like Termina) and most canon weapons and characters.

Later on the main plot will open up a lot, and wargame-type stuff will be available. The Dark Horde will kind of segue into that.

Oldrich and Magnar are approved.

Hold on, I'm concerned about Oldrich having the Trident of Power right off the bat. That's basically Ganon's version of the Master Sword, a step-up even above the regular magical items and artifacts found throughout most of the games. And all "items of power" are supposed to be off limits until something's done to get them in-game or the player has approval. BO or Burnt, was there any PM stuff where this got approved or what?

No, I approved it under the assumption that Arc's got something neat planned for it related to character development. If not and it's just a stat stick then I can do something with it later, or maybe it'll just blow up in Oldrich's hands if he's abusing its power. You never know with those kinds of evil artifacts, they're very volatile...

But, please do ask in the future.

Name:
Juno

Race:
Twili

Age:
Unknown

Sex:
Female

Theme:
Killing Strangers

Appearance:

Height: 5'6" ● Weight: 118lbs. ● Eyes: Amber ● Hair: Blue

Equipment:
Weapon: Irkalla: A massive, grisly-looking scythe Juno wields expertly. With a shaft roughly six feet in length and a curved blade larger than most swords, the weapon itself is imposing enough to impose fear in opponents.
Attire: Twilight Armor: Slate-coloured armor worn on Juno's arms, legs and chest. It's grim appearance gives the Twili woman an intimidating visage.

Background:
An eternal servant of Ganon, Juno has devoted her life to pursuing only three simple objectives: to discover a method of reviving her Dark Lord Ganon, to ensure the eternal demise of the Hero of Time and to seek out pleasure in any and all of it's forms. She currently fights alongside the Dark Hordes, choosing to share her eternal dream with any foul beast or determined warrior of darkness that dare have her by their side. Her unpredictable and unhinged behaviour lends to her frequent success but she can be quite difficult to control more often than not.

Elemental Affinity: Darkness and Water

Abilities:

  • Exorcism: 1
Launching herself forward in a hail of slashes from her scythe, Juno can attack a large area in a short period of time causing bleeding and/or zoning enemies.
  • Eviscerate: 1
Widening her stance and drawing her weapon back, Juno takes a few moments to ready her strike before lashing out at a target in front of her, dealing extremely high damage if not killing them outright. Opponents slain in this manner will douse her blade in their blood, increasing damage dealt against others of the same race.
  • Unwilling Servitude: 1
Dashing toward a single target, Juno kisses them, corrupting their mind with her poisonous lips and forcing them to take orders from her for a short period of time. Juno cannot command her target to commit suicide, but she can command them to harm themselves.
  • Twilightwalker: 1
Juno can bind herself to shadows, allowing her to adhere to any surface covered by darkness. This ability is particularly effective inside dimly-lit buildings, caves or other such structures.
  • White Tomb: 1
Juno harnesses the power of cold to encase an opponent in a tomb of ice, freezing them solid and holding them in place for a short period of time or until struck by a physical attack which will in turn inflict increased damage.
  • The Culling: 1
Juno prompts snowfall throughout the area and, after several seconds have passed, the falling snowflakes will become razor-sharp fragments of ice that will fall much faster and inflict compound wounds over a large area around her.
  • Twilight Rampage: 1
Being damaged by any type of attack will cause Juno to become excited, increasing her resistance to further damage and increasing her movement and attack speed.
  • Winter's Touch: 1
Juno can harness moisture from the air around her before flash-freezing the water as it touches her scythe, elongating the blade and covering it's surface in shards of ice that will cause significantly more damage to anyone struck by attacks for a short period of time. Juno can also apply the same effect to her body, allowing for a versatile array of attacks for as long as the effect persists.

A Legendary Ocean
Name: Lesina Eros
Race: Hylian
Age:22
Sex: Female
Appearance: Lesina is only a young woman, standing 5'5'' tall and weighing 135 lbs. Her shoulders are much wider than that of other woman's, giving her a somewhat brawny appearance. With light skin, and pale blue eyes, many would describe the Hylian as sickly. Despite her frail appearance, she has long, flowing black hair that she typically wears in a braid and a muscular structure. Surrounded by constant battle, Lesina has earned many scars, the majority of which lay beneath her small clothes. The woman wears brown, leather boots and gloves, a single, violet shoulder pad with matching thigh plates, and a tan-colored pair of pants and long sleeve shirt tucked tidily into her belt. Equipped with a simple bow and quiver, and a single short sword at her waist , her outfit is typical of a soldiers. Upon the scabbard of her blade are inscribed the Hylian Characters for "Eros". Completing her outfit is a blue-gray Tabard emblazoned with the Red Wings of the Hylian Crest.

Equipment: Short Sword, Bow, Arrows

Background: Lesina spent the better part of her childhood running from the Dark Armies of Ganondorf, leaving any temporary settlement behind while brave men fought to their last, just to buy time for people like her and her mother and sisters to escape from the encroaching hordes. The Hylian did all she was able to do for the injured soldiers, who were lucky enough to come out of the many battles with breath in their lungs. All she could do was care for the wounded, and pray to the Goddess that justice would fall upon the wicked; it was all any of them could do. Despite the despair that condensed in the air of her teenage years, she was always excited to hear the war veterans speak about a group of people who traveled the countryside aiding the war effort in their own capacity, a group of soldiers so fearsome that some swore they existed, and others swore they were only a legend. They were called...The Red Wings.

As folk lore went, the Red Wings were a noble group of soldiers who chose to seize their own destiny, rather than have some Chosen Hero or the Goddess decide for them. The cry of a bellowing horn, and the sudden appearance of a Red, Winged, crest was the moment that The Red Wings stormed the battlefield in a display of divine fury, a wave of scarlet washing over the Dark Armies and leaving not but dust in their wake. Upon Glory's Wings, Lesina held these stories close to her heart for they filled her with hope. Secretly, she told herself that she would become one of those righteous warriors, one day. Upon the day that the wicked Tower of Ganon fell, the Hylian girl heard various stories about what truly happened that day. One such story was that as the Chosen Hero stormed the Tower, it was none other than the Red Wings who defended the line, providing the Hero cover as he did battle against Ganon. Ultimately, and to everyone's knowledge, all combatants were lost in the Pit of Lava that day.

As weeks passed and people began to reclaim the ruined Castle Town, the tale of the Red Wings was only spoke in hushed whispers, something that was only a child's bedtime story, meant to make young one's rest easy at night. Despite everything, Lesina still believed they existed, and planned to carry out their will. With her mother and sisters tucked safely away in Castle Town, Lesina disappeared into the dead of night, leaving only a note to her mother that there was something she must do...

Elemental Affinity: Spirit, Fire

Abilities: Spells and techniques.

On Wings of Glory: Rank 1: Lesina pulls a horn from her pouch and blows into it, sounding an inspiring bellow that causes a Loftwing made of spiritual energy to swoop down on the battlefield.

Brand of the Red Wings: Rank 1: Ignites weapon with flames, dealing additional fire damage with every attack.

Divine Intervention: Rank 1: Split the spirit in two, allowing for a spiritual version of the girl to fight alongside Lesina for two turns.

Fiery Soul: Rank 1: When Lesina uses an ability, gain a token for "Fiery Soul". After using a spell or ability, a flame baring resemblance to a cloak or cape begins to form on her back. One token represents a cloak, Two tokens represent a half-cape, and three tokens represent a full cape. Though made of fire, it is incapable of dealing any damage to enemies or allies. For each token gained, Fiery Soul will enable Lesina with a different ability. Does not create Tokens for Fiery Soul.

One Token of Fiery Soul: The blazing cloak explodes, dealing Fire damage to nearby enemies.

Two Tokens of Fiery Soul: Consumes Fiery Soul, creating an aura that deals Fire damage to nearby enemies for the next two turns.

Three Tokens of Fiery Soul: Lesina blows into the Horn, sounding a bellow that calls forth a Volley of Fire Arrows onto her target.

If you have a method that doesn't contradict other things and leave big gaping plot holes and such, maybe. I just can't think of anything myself that doesn't sound stupidly contrived.

I'll be your Undertaker this evening
Name:
Roland Ogier

Race:
Hylian

Age:
???

Sex:
Male

Appearance:
Roland

Equipment:

  • Red Wizard's Coat - A thick coat, crafted with a bit of magic in the cloth and metal insets upon the shoulders to provide better protection. It only slightly lessens elemental and physical damage, but is perfectly comfortable in all weather, coating the wearer in the same enchantment.
  • Wizard's Satchel - A bag containing innumerable pockets holding things a magician might require--herbs and poultices, blank parchment and charcoal, bits of string and odd coins, you name it. Worn across the shoulders.
  • Small Knife - More of a tool than a weapon. Strapped to the shin underneath Roland's pants.
  • Fire Rod - Not a Legendary Item. This rod, easily crafted for use by military magi and even found in the hands of roaming Wizzrobes, produces a medium-sized fireball that will bounce once in the environment, and explode upon hitting the target. By charging the attack, a circle of fire is released around the user instead. This rod holds 10 charges, and must be recharged via the magician's mana--1 charge per turn, or full charge when Resting.
  • Ice Rod - Not a Legendary Item. This rod, easily crafted for use by military magi and even found in the hands of roaming Wizzrobes, produces a blast of ice that can temporarily freeze an enemy in place. By charging the attack, a large square block of ice appears in front of the user instead. This rod holds 10 charges, and must be recharged via the magician's mana--1 charge per turn, or full charge when Resting.
  • Lightning Rod - Not a Legendary Item. This rod, easily crafted for use by military magi and even found in the hands of roaming Wizzrobes, produces a single lightning bolt that will shock an enemy or travel through conductive material. By charging the attack, the bolt will chain between up to 3 enemies. This rod holds 10 charges, and must be recharged via the magician's mana--1 charge per turn, or full charge when Resting.
  • Hand Carved Staff - Roland's own staff, which he has worked on regularly ever since his apprentice days. A strong, hardwood rod about six feet in length, with the last foot split and wound like a double-helix, and numerous runes carved in lines that spiral down its length. The enchantments make it as hard as iron to prevent breakage, and allow magics of any element to be channeled through it--though without some other source, Roland can only charge it with his own elements.

Background:
Roland Ogier is a sage, not of the sacred variety chosen by the Temples to protect the land, but the more traditional kind--he has studied the arts of magic and explored the depths of ancient ruins for many years, and though he looks young, he may well be much older. Once, he had a master, but even wizards for whom time has slowed must eventually fade away. Perhaps the greatest sign of Roland's true age is in his eyes--though striking in their color and intensity, they seem to carry a darkness within.

When Ganondorf came to Hyrule, Roland had a dream foretelling great disaster. He set off for the Forest, for it was there that he saw a rising pillar of light that would become the hope of Hyrule. By the time he got there, however, the Great Deku Tree had already sent the boy on his way. Roland was not worried--the Princess, too, had seen the dream, and though Ganon's might could not be matched by mortal men, the prophecy had been set into motion. The Hero would save the land.

Roland, in the meantime, set about gathering the materials and knowledge he would need to be of further help, when the time came. He crafted many magical items, and potions, and medicine, and he traveled the land giving aid to all he found in need. A few times he found himself in dire straits, as the minions of Ganon were strong as well. Yet always he escaped, and rested in hidden grottos until his wounds were healed, and then set off once more.

Eight years passed. Roland had been circling the borders of Hyrule for some time, forcing Ganon's monstrosities back before they could spread to other lands, before they could find hidden gates not meant for their use. Now he returns to the kingdom proper, to see what is left in the wake of Prophecy...

Elemental Affinity:
Light
Spirit

Abilities:

  • Radiance - Rank 1. An orb of light surrounded by a halo. When thrown, the orb will home in on the nearest enemy unless Roland has selected a specific target. Zipping above them at high speed, the halo expands and falls upon them, then the orb bursts into a multitude of rays that rain down upon the area outlined by the halo.
  • Mana Circuits - Rank 1. Orange threads, one from each finger, are manipulated by Roland. When attached to a target, their spiritual energy can be drained to restore Roland's mana.
  • Luciform - Rank 1. Roland's body becomes light, traveling a short distance in a straight line and phasing through anything in his way. If he doesn't have enough room or range to avoid an object once the phase is complete, he'll be "bounced" out of the object. Substances like water that distort light may also send him off course.
  • Telekinesis - Rank 1. Roland imbues a piece of his spirit into an object, and his will causes it to move as if it were his own limb. He is limited by weight, range, and number of the objects in relation to their size.
