"We should circle back," The paladin urged as broken homes creaked around them. "We've been separated for too long, commander."
The party he was leading was frightened, that much was obvious. In truth, the old commander was scared of this place as well. Once this city, Stratholme, had been the greatest city in the northern province, second only to the capital itself. Now, it was a bastion of the dead. The cobblestone streets were stained with blood, and each footstep sent an echo that shivered down the commander's spine. "Afraid of the dead, Willem?" Saiden remarked.
"No, sir." The soldier retorted. "Bu-
"But what?" The commander turned to face his battalion. Instinctively, he took a head count of his troops. One. Two. five. Where's Marcus? He tightened the grip on his hammer and began looking about as his confused men looked to him.
"Sir?" The same soldier said.
"We are short a man, soldiers." Saidan declared. "Do I need to make you hold hands?! Light give me patience." He pointed to his men, ordering them into a new position. "We're circling back for Marcus. Congratulations, Willem, you get to take point."
The grunt gave a stern look before falling to position. Saidan would discipline him once they were safe at the Silver Hand Bastion, the barracks of their former order. It was the only base the remnants of Lordaeron held within the city after the fall of their kingdom to the Undead Scourge.
Saidan had walked this street a dozen times a day, before, when he was commander of the Bastian. Second only to Lord Uther himself, but the traitor prince had slew him six months prior, with the blood of his father fresh on his blade. The walk would never be the same. Once the city was reclaimed, the lives lost would still haunt these streets. And Saidan. I should have done more. His mind screamed. We should have gutted the prince after what he did here.
The men ahead stopped. "Whats wrong with you all?" Saidan roared from the rear. The men stepped aside, revealing the head of Marcus and a trail of blood leading into an ally. "Forward!" he commanded, charging into the alley. "We'll kill whatever monster did this."
Reluctantly, the men obeyed their enraged commander, following him into the alley. It was dark, but the undead were incapable of traps. Such behavior was unheard of, for they were ignorant, clumsy creature, and their master had fled far from this place. This was the work of a ghoul pack. The commander had seen this behavior a dozen times.
"Stand strong, we are the chosen of the light!" Saidan encouraged his men. Instantly, debris from a near building began to fall, crushing his batallion. Falling forward, the commander was pinned below a singed support beam, struggling to move.
"Is this the best the light can do?" A sinister voice whispered from the shadows, followed by a hoof stomp. A massive creature of demonic might emerged. Saidan knew it as a Dreadlord. They commanded the Scourge during the fall of Lordaeron, but the Prince had betrayed them, too. They were without allies. What cause would it have to be here? "Monster," Saidan whispered, struggling to get free. The demon was on him in an instant, pulling him from the debris, and slamming him onto the pavement. The paladin struggled to move, yet the demon grasped him yet again, this time by the throat. "Your kind will never defeat us!"
"No," The dreadlord answered. "You will destroy yourselves. Know that I am Balnazzar. Know, as I drink your life, that I will take up residence in this weak shell your soul calls home. Know that I will corrupt and destroy everything and everyone you have ever loved."
visual
Saidan screamed in pain. He could feel the demon within his mind, penetrating his most protected corners. "You will never. The light will destroy you!"
"The Light will be my shield, Paladin. Your light is my shield."
Disclaimer I wrote this in like 20 minutes. It's full of flaws, but it's meant to act as a prlogue of sorts. Basically, the people who take part in this RP will be members of this new order of paladins that is struggling to reclaim their ravaged homeland from undead. It takes place in the Warcraft universe, and is basically a glorified fanfic. The only playable races will be Humans, Elves and dwarves. No orcs, Undead or other races fit the theme of the story. This is a general interest guage. Feel free to leave a comment telling me what your impressions are and any questions you have.

Do we need to know anything about World of Warcraft in order to have fun? I don't know anything about it at all. >__< Not at all! Chronologically, the story will fall before WoW on the series' timeline, so you won't need to know anything. I'm also going to attempt to explain certain background events from the warcraft series in the RP so no one will have to do research on the story if they don't have the desire.
I'll go ahead and make a character sheet.
Character Sheet - Code:
-
[b]Name[/b]: [b]Race[/b]: [b]Age[/b]: [b]Gender[/b]: [b]Appearance[/b]:
[b]Origin Kingdom[/b]: [b]Backstory[/b]:
[b]Class[/b]: You can use a class from the game(s) or one of your own invention. If you do pick a class from the games, be sure that it's racially appropriate. [b]Inventory[/b]:
| Age Chart |
|---|
| Race | Child | Teenager | Adult | Middle Age | Old | Venerable | | Human | 1-12 | 13-19 | 20-44 | 45-64 | 65-74 | 75+ | | High/Blood Elf | 1-20 | 21-59 | 60-174 | 175-259 | 260-349 | 350+ | | Dwarf | 1-14 | 15-39 | 40-124 | 125-249 | 250-449 | 450+ |
Races Humans: Humans are among the youngest races on Azeroth, but they make up for it by being the most populous. With life spans generally shorter than the other races, humans strive all the harder to achieve great heights in empire building, exploration, and magical study. Their aggressive and inquisitive nature lead the human nations to become active and influential in the world. Dwarves: Dwarves are small, but strong beings for their size mostly inhabiting the snowy, mountainous Khaz Modan region of central Eastern Kingdoms. They are shorter than humans, but taller than gnomes, taking advantage of their size when possible and relying on their robustness and strength when not. The average dwarf is steady, observant and composed both during work and combat, yet able to rage with fierce zeal and persistence when the situation calls for it. While a dwarf prefers to plan forward to overcome challenges, many of them easily lose their temperament and self-restraint when exposed to conditions stirring their feelings and concerns. Dwarves are treasure seekers, explorers, and courageous fighters. Dwarves in nature are masters in the arts of blacksmithing, metalwork and mining. They are also superb at developing and constructing machinery, and they have developed several different types of Siege weapons, such as Siege engines and Steam tanks and flying machines, such as Gyrocopters and Dwarven flying machines. As for blacksmithing, the Dwarves are masters at creating new weaponry and armor. There are some who believe that Dwarves have the capability of imparting their emotions directly into the weapons and armor they craft. High Elves: The high elves were once a significant force on the continent, but in recent times their numbers have been dramatically reduced: 90% of their race was slaughtered in the Third War; Following this, another 90% of the survivors changed their name to "blood elves" in remembrance of their fallen brethren and no longer consider themselves high elven. Few true high elves remain, most of whom cling to the Alliance trying to restore the glory of their once great people. High elves stand slightly taller than humans do. A high elf is usually a little over 6 feet in height and weighs between 100 to 175 pounds, depending on gender. The elves are slim, with sharp symmetrical features, often an exaggeration of perfect beauty. The high elves are uniformly fair in complexion, with white to flaxen colored hair. Their eyes are an incredibly intense blue color, seeming to glow with an inner light. Blood Elves: Prior to the Sunwell's destruction, all high elves were constantly bathed in its magical power. Now bereft of this arcane energy, the elves suffered from their withdrawals. Their prince claimed that they would soon die without another magical source to replace the Sunwell. The blood elves therefore set about learning to drain magic from alternative fel sources. This reliance on fel magic causes the eyes of blood elves to glow green. Kingdoms The Kingdom of Lordaeron was a human kingdom primarily located along the northern territories of the continent. Originally an Arathorian city-state, it was an empire by the time of its fall during the Third War. Ruled by the House of Menethil, the kingdom took part in the birth of the Alliance of Lordaeron shortly before the start of the Second War. The Kingdom of Lordaeron spearheaded the Alliance forces during the campaign against the Orcish Horde during the war. Unfortunately, the nation would be almost entirely consumed by the Undead Scourge during the Third War, which occurred fourteen years later. Dalaran is the human capital of the magocratic nation of the same name, located by the Lordamere Lake on the Alterac Mountains shore in the Eastern Kingdoms.. The city is ruled by a council of 6 Archmages, known as the Kirin'Tor. The city's inner fortress has served as the focal point for magi and the study of the arcane throughout human history. Dalaran found itself powerless to stop Prince Arthas and his forces when he led the Scourge through Lordaeron. The city's ruins were later taken over by Grand Marshal Garithos and the Alliance Remnants, who were battling the Scourge in Lordaeron. What power the surviving Kirin Tor members have in Dalaran around this period remains vague. The City also holds the largest population of High Elves, following their transition into Blood Elves. During the Scourge invasion of Quel'Thalas, the high elves were nearly scoured from Azeroth: the king perished before Arthas's dark powers, the Sunwell was destroyed, and the bulk of their people were slaughtered. In the wake of this devastation, the king's son Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider proclaimed the surviving high elves reborn from the ashes of their shattered kingdom and people, as the blood elves. The blood elves worked tirelessly to reclaim their homeland from the lingering undead. The [b}Kingdom of Khaz Modan[/b] is the major government of the dwarves on the continent. The dwarves were left untouched by the Scourge, but internal turmoil has kept them occupied. The humans and Elves to the north has received little support from the dwarf lands, though independent adventurers have traveled to lend their aide.

The blood elves therefore set about learning to drain magic from alternative Fel sources. This reliance on Fel magic causes the eyes of blood elves to glow green.AgeApproximately Twenty-four GenderFemale AppearanceHeight: 5' 3" ● Weight: 95 lbs. ● Eyes: Red/Turquoise ● Hair: Pale Green/Blue Origin KingdomKingdom of Khaz ModanThe major government of the dwarves on the continent. The dwarves were left untouched by the Scourge, but internal turmoil has kept them occupied. The humans and Elves to the north has received little support from the dwarf lands, though independent adventurers have traveled to lend their aide.BackstoryDeriss never knew her real parents. She didn't know where they were from, where they had been, what they did for a living... nothing at all. It seems that everyone she speaks to about possibly knowing them has no information whatsoever. The girl has no idea where she was born or what happened that caused them to abandon her. All that Deriss does know however was taught to her by her adoptive father, a Dwarven man by the name of Golseus Rathverse. When asked about where she came from, Golseus typically doesn't have much to say either. He explains that he found the young Blood Elf in a watery ditch in the forests closest to Khaz Modan. It had been raining quite hard that day and the sounds of the storm almost drowned out her juvenile cries. The infant was plucked from the ditch and while Golseus was by no means an expert, he didn't think she was any older than a couple of weeks. Instead of leaving the child behind, he brought her back to his home where she was looked after. When Deriss was first found, she was malnourished, sickly and pale and had he not found her, she likely wouldn't have survived the night. Like most Blood Elves, Deriss possessed a great deal of dormant magical energies and since Golseus had no knowledge of such things, the girl was left to learn and experiment on her own in that regard. Since Golseus had been a warrior for most of his life and a miner for the rest, he was a strong man and taught his new daughter how to be strong as well. Once she was twelve years old, he took her into his shed where he let her choose a weapon that he would then teach her how to wield. Deriss gravitated toward a great scythe, enjoying how unique it appeared among the other weapons on the wall. While Golseus had limited experience with such a tool, he passed on what he knew and taught the girl to defend herself as best he could. That weapon coupled with her natural affinity for magic made her much more formidable than he had initially anticipated so his worrying over her well-being turned out to be for naught. Over the years, Deriss found herself more and more drawn to magical energies and everything related to them. She constantly searched out methods of gaining more magical knowledge, finding ways to draw energy from other sources and various ways to utilize the energy she already had for various uses. As her adoptive father saw his daughter slowly become more and more reclusive, he became concerned with her obsession and soon forbid her from any further study into magic. This did not go over well with the young girl however and after a few months of trying to hide her studies, her father found her research and destroyed it. Furious at what he had done, Deriss ran away from the home and never returned, leaving behind the man who'd saved her life so that she could continue to pursue her fascination with magic. ClassShamanShamans are mortal mediators between the very elements themselves. Spiritual leaders of their communities, these powerful practitioners commune with the ancestors and seek to balance the raging elemental forces, and can call upon them in battle to scorch and blast their enemies, or to strengthen and heal their allies. Shamans can enhance their weapons with elemental effects, smite enemies with lightning strikes and bursts of lava, and summon powerful elementals to do their bidding. Shamans can also grant themselves and their allies powerful elemental boons, and call upon the ancestors to assist them, transforming into a Ghost Wolf or using Reincarnation to return from the dead. Shamans can also use a selection of stationary totems to gain a wide variety of effects, from restoring mana and automatically healing allies to snaring foes and attacking the shaman's enemies. Shamans are versatile and formidable opponents, able to respond to any situation with a range of unique abilities.Inventory
- Friede's Great Scythe
A great scythe supposedly wielded by a blind, possessed Nun, with a curved blade thinly coated with frost that easily breaks the guard of shields. In the painting, the scythe is a symbol of a long-lost home, possibly explaining the Nun's preference for it.
- Ethereal Talon
A long singular claw worn on Deriss' left index finger. The talon seems to pulse with magical energies but grows more dim the longer it's wearer goes without exposure to mana. Deriss uses the weapon to draw magical energies from organics.
- Travel Pack
A small pack Deriss wears on the small of her back used to carry basic travelling supplies. When she left home initially, it was empty. Since then, the pack has been filled with any small items she can find that are of interest to her. She'd sooner store a magical stone or other trinket than food.

@Sin
Everything seems mostly in order. I do have a few things I need to mention. My primary point is your character's eyes. Blood/High elves have glowing eyes of a singular color. (Shades of green for blood elves and shades of blue for high elves and titular blood elves.) I don't expect you to change the eyes on the artwork or anything, just mentioning it on the spoiler tab would be enough for me.
My second mention is your character's race. While Blood Elves are playable, your character's origin story and class would point towards being a high elf. The blood elves with green eyes have feasted on fel (demonic) energies, and titular blood elves adopted the name in memory of their fallen race. If your character did one or the other, that's fine. It's just worth mentioning which lead to her being a Blood Elf.
Also, Shamans aren't really a race that blood/high elves are by culture, but since your character was raised by a dwarf in dwarf lands I'll allow it, no problem. However, It's worth mentioning that in Warcraft, Shamans literally talk to elementals, and they in turn lend them their powers if they're kept happy. If you were going for a more scholarly mage/witch character that shoots fireballs/lightning you might be better off as a mage or warlock. Just making sure you know how shamanism works, but I'm not opposed to an elven shaman.
Exhibit A Blood Elf backstory: After the scourge destroyed Quel'Thalas, the prince renamed his people blood elves, in memory of their fallen race. Later, the prince wen't on a journey searching for a new source of energy of his people. He discovered that draining fel energy sources could sustain their lusts. His followers all consumed the fel energies, which turned their eyes from blue to green. Now keep in mind, at this time all Blood Elves still had blue eyes. This created a change. The prince's followers returned home to teach their kin of the new energy sources. Some were opposed to using demonic energy. They were eventually cast out from elven society. These outcasts returned to their original name as High Elves. In the RP, these events will unfold (mainly the banishment), so I didn't mention it in the cc, but I feel it's worth mentioning now.

I'm fairly interested cause between fruitlessly searching for a meaning to life I'm bored as fuck, but in doing research about how the Warcraft universe works and what kind of characters would be possible, I'm not really sure how to "get into" it. It seems like the only draw of the franchise is literally in the name--the war-craft. There's NOTHING but war. In the birth of the cosmos, Light and Void went to war. The Light made the Titans and the Void made the Old Gods or the Demons and then those guys went to war. One of the titans turned evil and then he went to war with his former buddies. Then everybody discovered Azeroth, which was home to a variety of races...that were always warring with each other. And because this wasn't enough, they brought some MORE races from other planets for an even BIGGER war!
And then somebody decided that even the dead shouldn't know peace from war, so they started bringing back the dead to fight in a big war with zombies.
Is there ANYTHING to this universe besides just fighting? Don't get me wrong, fighting's important. You gotta have conflict in any kind of story otherwise there's no point to it. But it's like...how am I supposed to create a character outside of it? How could there even BE peasants and farmers if the earth has constantly been scorched and salted by every race that has trod upon it? How could any of the races develop culture and science or religion and magic when there's always some new enemy bashing in the door or a new objective to go try and capture and destroy? It doesn't even seem like they could have strategy, tactics, formation--between the time you sent out the scout and the time he came back with the information, three more wars got started!
I'm struggling to come up with a character idea and a character personality that would actually fit and work within the context of the universe, and it's hard because I as the author of the character can't divorce myself from how silly the setting seems to me.

The entire planet isn't at war at once. Just warring countries. Most of the land is enjoying a relative peace.
Most of these past wars have been hundreds of years apart. There are long periods of peace, then periods of war. Short periods of peace followed by a war. Peace. War. Peace. War. Long peace.
In ancient times, Europe was at war all the time, but vastly different cultures and languages still emerged within defined borders.
There is plenty in the setting besides fighting. Maybe I should ask what you're looking for in Warcraft?
