So here's an idea. Ya know how we always play on the "good" side? Killing monsters, pillaging their stuffs, enslaving and whatnot. Well why not play as the monsters? No elves, no humans, no dwarves, none of the "pretty races". Because that's why we kill the monsters isn't it? They're different or ugly or 'primitive'. It's just a little idea and it wouldn't be a big thing. I also don't know how to work the damned polls so...just say yes or no or ask questions. |

We tried something like this with BO/Arcvalons once, "The Dark Lord's Army," and it didn't work out too well. In the upcoming idea I'm working on there are several "races" of monsters and demons and such, but I dunno how well playing as them would work because they're very much the enemy and if players on one side encounter players on the other side there aren't a lot of excuses to keep them from fighting until one side is definitely dead. We have a small enough community as is right now, especially with two of our big players leaving (though Matt hasn't been that active recently anyway I guess) so dividing them into factions might not be a good idea. People making tons of characters to make up for it doesn't seem like a good idea either because no one can keep track of/write decently for more than maybe two to three at a time even if all the characters are grouped together. |

I've played plenty of bad guys, and they can be fun depending on how things work. With that being said, I find that without a strong central motive that everyone can get behind that villain campaigns fall apart quickly. It would probably be easier to start with a central premise that is morally ambiguous- like become immortal through whatever means are necessary. That would lend itself to "bad" characters who can agree with the idea. This functions the same as why bad characters occasionally join the good side. They have a logical, self motivated objective such as "I will save myself, my home, my belongings and by proxi others from death by stopping the world from being plunged into the ocean" by joining the group who are after the idiot who wants to kill us all. Basically you would just need a strong enough motivation to bring the characters along, with a path that is easy to control. Money might be a good one- enough money can do a lot for people. If you offer a big enough reward and the right requirements, you could probably pull it off. But that's just my point of view. EDIT: Also I added a poll for you Kaze. I don't even remember this dark lords army thing. It's less being 'evil' and more being "Hey I'm different from the human/allied forces". Main form of reference would be the game Of Orcs and Men. Humans invade, enslave/kill all the orcs and butcher all the goblins they find or put them in an arena. Why? Because humans are assholes who like to take what they want and invade things because they're different from them. Either way, it's just an idea and if you base your decision on the idea of something that BO did. You're a bad bad person. Edited by Kazemitsu, March 29, 2015, 9:08 am.

It sounds more like you want to play a monster's campaign where everyone has to choose from "monster" races and do things that are yet to be defined. That sound about right Kaze? |

Pretty much. Although you can kind of get the idea of what I'm hinting at just by what I'm saying. Play the "monsters" and fight off the pretty races. |

Not really my cup of tea Kaze. Don't get me wrong, I could easily go full knight templar with a goblin or demon and be happy to make a character who will burn all the pretty people's towns down to the last cinder in hopes of making goblintopia or deviltown USA but that's not exactly what is in line with the desires of most RPs. After all, most RPs have a goal in them beyond "NTNP has decided to do *blank* and who wants to follow him?" |
