None of these have received particularly much attention beyond my thoughts, so these are little more than drafts at this point. Incidentally, I thought of these when brainstorming for a Space Opera setting, the influence might be obvious. Which of these do you guys consider the more interesting? Super Shooting Star Sorcery Saga (concepts: battle, magic, superpower, mystery, slice-of-life, pvp, modern) For millenia, humanity has looked up towards the heavens and wondered what mysteries might lie there. Thousands upon thousands of stars; are those lights our friends, our enemies, perhaps something else? A certain comet passes near the Earth every 700 years fueling the imagination of men and women through the history of civilization, but due to the toughtless actions of some in the modern age, the comet breaks apart into a thousand pieces that shower the planet as shooting stars. Unbeknownst to them, this was not a normal comet, but an interdimensional being that had been lying dormant for eons, whose pieces grant their wielders incredible powers that can only be considered mystical due to their disregard of known physics. However, the pieces of the shooting star whisper into the soul of their wielders, clamoring to be one once again... A Foundation in Time (concepts: time-travel, worldbuilding, politics) In the distant future, everything is wrong. A being from outer space lands on Earth, its powers incredible and beyond comprehension, and it definetly does not come in peace. The arsenals of a hundred nations are useless, and before long, the planet lies in ruins. But there is hope. In the farthest reaches, some of the last human survivors have built the ultimate weapon, a machine intended give civilization more time. Using this artifact, an entire fortress is sent back through time, and finds itself stranded in a much younger era. Can the people from uptime find a way to change fate, and prepare civilization for what's to come? (Here you might need to control your characters, then your characters' descendants, and so on) Off-World (re-imagining of previous idea: Esper, concepts: super-soldier, slice of life, mechs [Armored Core style], politics) The year was 2980, and the Galactic Federation, consumed by corruption and internal strife between the interests of their leaders, faced uprisings in a thousand worlds and the collapse of authority in many thousands more. In the midst of this, the settling and colonization of a terraformed planet at the edge of the galaxy was authorized ; officially said to be an initiative in technological sustainable development, the actual purpose was that of researching and developing the abilities of genetic samples with the ultimate goal of increasing the military might of the nation. The particular characteristics of this planet made it the perfect candidate to train these genetic samples in the use of experimental equipment, which couldn't be tested anywhere else due to both legal and moral concerns. ... It is now 2998, and the initiative was a success. The planet is home to nearly a thousand million, and while succesfully governed by a regent that wields absolute authority in the aftermath of the galactic collapse, ideas have been tossed around about the possibility to introduce a democratic system. They don't ever seem to get anywhere. Yet the planet assumes itself as a multicultural entity, with most of the population having migrated from almost every corner in the galaxy, and only a minority having actually been born here. Amongst the latter, there are genetic samples - human beings genetically engineered by government agencies with heightened physical and mental abilities, released into society during early childhood (to adoptive parents, orphanages, etc.) to ensure the most possibly normal upbringing. Yet these children are destined to be pawns in the games of others. As governmet agencies and private corporations all move to get hold of them, will they be able to change their fate? |

They all seem "okay" from just these short synopsis, but at the same time none of them have anything past this initial premise to pull the player in, at least not in my opinion. Really they sound like summaries for an upcoming anime, except you've probably noticed over the years that all those summaries are blurring together into overused messes. That's kind of what these do. They aren't that much different from so many things that have been done before. Doing something truly original is kind of an impossibility at this point, but what you need is something that hasn't been done in a particular way before. For example, it's kind of silly, but say you have a story about super robots whose pilots have to have certain qualities. Normally these qualities are things like Courage, Fighting Spirit, genetically engineered superpowers, etc. What if instead of that, the pilots have to be human computers, completely calm and collected at all times, living calculators? Sure, there are tons of characters in mecha anime who are kind of like that--they're super smart programming geniuses who can calculate tons of shit in their head and fight tactically. But what if you took it to the next step and made it so that those pilots were scarily machine-like, inhuman in their thoughts and actions because their emotions have been cleansed away? Now you have all sorts of questions your story can ask, like whether Logic is superior to Emotion and how being turned into a complete Logic person affects one's ability to be human and do normal human things. On the complete other side of the spectrum, take Emotion powered mechs to the next step. Make them powered by the pilot's libido or something (I'm almost certain there's something like this already because it's Japan) and have their ultimate attacks only be usable when they're on the verge of orgasm. I don't mean to say "go over the top with everything" I just mean "do something, but do it in a different way." |

I imagine all posts then would be like "..." "..Yes," James said emotionlessly. As for mechs powered by orgasms, that could work, but then the whole thing would be reduced to cybering AND I'd feel pretty uncomfortable. |

Super Shooting Star Sorcery Saga: Not feeling a thing here- sorry. Foundation in Time: Ok... so how are we supposed to do this? What type of events are the main cause of our issues? Also you might want to look up something known as "Chrono Chamber" in the RP interest poll section of this site to get an idea of what type of things you might want to consider. Off World: So we would play as these engineered children trying desperately to survive against the government forces and we are going to 'fall into the pilot seat' of something for the most part? |

@NTNP Foundation in Time: At first the characters would have little idea of how to stop the apocalypse, but the time machine gave them enough time to figure out. There would be two different faction amongst the characters, those that want to build a massive empire that will be able to stand against the invasion, and those that would prefer to manipulate events from the shadows to prepare. There would be a MASSIVE amount of constant world-building, the first "Ancient Age" would be the only one that's be set, subsequent eras would reflect the Ancient Age's characters' choices ("I think we should support this petty kingdom against this other petty kingdom", cue next age, the kingdom you supported is now a massive empire bent on world domination)- each age would be roughly a chapter. I admit there isn't likely to be much combat, it'd be mostly talking (writing) and making decisions, with some hard resource management (when the characters go back in time, they can only bring a limited amount of uptime supplies and weapons). Off-World: Something like that. There'd be a bit of normal slice-of-life antics around the beginning, so your characters get to know each other and all that, but during the prologue an attack is going to happen, and your characters will be forced to join one of the different government agencies and corporations to fight back. |

S5 and Off-World sound like fun. Foundation in Time sounds kinda difficult to pull off though. |
