So this topic is fairly self explanatory- nostalgia is what helps people remember the past fondly and reconnect with things that they enjoyed when they were younger. I was searching through my computer and ran across one of the old posts from Chronicles of Hyrule, an RP which some site members might remember and after reading this scene between myself, Peras and Fimb managed to bring a giant grin to my face. I'd love to see and read anyone else's works too. After all, the reason why we are all authors is because we enjoy sharing our craft and imagining what was and what might be. ""Dear Nayru... I swear the world is just trying to get me to snap sometimes." Jake rubbed his temple after removing his helm. Something about Tai just made him want to kill the punk and then urinate on his grave. At some point it would be worthwhile murdering him, but now wasn't the time. "We don't have time for that trash. I'm sure once everything is said and done he'll get what is coming to him, but for now we have much more pressing concerns. If he takes a swing at me and won’t take no for an answer though, I don't want any of this 'it’s a one on one duel crap'. Hit him, in mass and don't stop until he stops moving or dies. No scratch that, until he dies. I'm not willingly fighting anyone for something stupid like 'dueling' not now, not ever. You don't fight for fun. Its kill or be killed, not a stupid pissing match between idiots." "So can we go to bed? Austin's tried to beat my ass. Then before that Yannis zapped me full of evil. Then I had to deal with convincing Impa and now Tai. I need a nap. Anyone care?" Jake added, looking between his two allies. Honestly this had been by far the longest day of the year thus far. "Just get some sleep Jake, no one can object. You need it to be any good. Don't worry, we'll watch over your tent while you sleep..or you and Lucia can just sleep together already. I don't care which." Austin said with a clear fool's smile. Lucia had remained silent throughout the banter between Jake and Austin, raising her eyebrow at the latter's comment. It prompted Jake to end the conversation and leave for the inn in a flustered state, eliciting a exasperated sigh from Lucia. She glanced at Austin and shook her head in disapproval as he said something to the general before walking off in another direction. She chuckled softly to herself as she caught up to Jake. "I'll stick with you. An agreement is an agreement," said the woman as she walked side-by-side with her general. She was referencing Aimee's request to keep an eye on him. "We're in a village of ninjas. There's no way we can tell what they might do to you in your sleep. Eyes everywhere..." her voice trailed off into silence as she failed to keep the conversation going. She rarely ever spoke to people casually; she was always either reassuring the villagers that everything would be okay, apprehending unlawful people, or discussing the state of the village with the elders. "Austin, is it too late to send you back to Kakariko and get Emily or Jade instead?" Jake just shook his head and rubbed his temple. This guy was a different type of annoying. He took in a deep breath, resisting the urge to smack Austin. After all, physically abusing comrades rarely help. "I'm going to bed. I think that the shiekah pointing at us and then at the building over there probably means we are supposed to sleep there. Luc-ahh just screw it. I need a nap before I deal with anything else. You two can come back and hang out in the inn with me or you can hang out around the village. Just don't get yourselves in danger alright?" At that Jake started off toward the Shiekah Village Inn and continued to rub his temples. He was slightly red face, be it from anger or embarrassment was up to debate. Honestly Austin tended to be good at pushing his buttons anymore. Then Austin caught back up with Jake. "Hey I didn't mean anything by that. you said it yourself. Jokes make the concept of war easier to live with. I was just trying to have some fun with you two. I'll really try to not poke fun at you anymore though." Austin said walking into the general direction of the inn. "You really get worried over little things don't you Austin. I get it’s a joke, same was true about trading you for Emily or Jade." At that Jake just shook his head. Honestly Austin got so worried about the little things it was crazy. "I swear you need to calm down. Friendships aren't that easy to break. If it was then none of us would be friendly toward each other and probably half of us would be dead by now, it’s just part of it. Now go enjoy yourself at the Inn. But keep in mind; ninjas equal bad things when you are sleeping." "Just, don't be mad at me, okay?" Austin said walking into the inn, giving Jake a wave before walking away. "Are you alright?" asked Lucia, cutting straight to the chase. She couldn't converse normally very well and decided to go right back to her usual business-like self. "You're red, and call me crazy, but I felt the temperature rise for a few moments. Is something wrong, general?" Then Lucia made her way up to Jake. If anything this conversation was going to be even stranger if any part of today held any indication. But her questions seemed tamer than he would have expected although he wasn't sure if she was teasing him or not. "I swear I think you get off with messing with my head sometimes Lucia. I'm fine, a little worried about what's going to happen next... about what will be decided with the Shiekah, what will happen with Yannis and Kakariko Village but that's not too strange. I think everyone is a little stressed. But having you around makes it a lot easier to deal with." After walking for a moment longer, Lucia could probably still tell that Jake's face was a bit red and the temperature had increased slightly. The face thing was just a natural reaction to being embarrassed but apparently the Fire Medallion liked to add in it's two cents too. Or they were both turning red, either or really. "But before... I just got a little embarrassed that's all. Fact is... the way everyone has been gossiping about us. Especially Austin... I think he actively goes around yelling the General and Lucia like each other or something." Then Jake turned another shade redder. Stupid words popping out of his head without being put through 'what I should or should not say out loud'ometer. "Messing around with your head...?" asked Lucia rhetorically as she crossed her arms and frowned. "I was just stating the possibilities. I didn't mean to. But it's good to know you're doing okay regardless." She rolled her eyes slightly at the strangeness of his comment. When he told her that having her around made things easier and continued by talking about the gossip regarding their relationship, her ears reddened slightly, but her expression remained stoic. "I do like you," she said abruptly to confirm her side of the rumor before continuing very quickly, "But I don't think it matters right? Considering the battles we have ahead of us, I think it's good that we're here to watch out for each other. Teamwork is key to winning battles, but we already know that. We just have to keep all of this up. When all is said and done, we can return to our normal lives and forget the rumors. We'll go home and everything will return to normal. I'll live the rest of my life at the village and you'll move on to greater things...the way it should have been from the start." She slowed down near the end and eventually trailed off into silence. "But what if that's not what I want?" Jake took a few steps forward. Truth was everything inside should have been screaming for him to think for a few minutes about what he was saying but... it just didn't seem like the time to shy away. Fear was one thing, but he wasn't going to let it be over because he didn't have the stones to say what he needed to say. "What if I don't want for us to part ways once this is done? What if I want to have you in my life from now on? What if part of achieving this better life involves having you with me? What happens then?" "Then I...don't know," said Lucia shakily. "I have my obligation to the village and you have your obligation to Hyrule. I am and always will be a commoner. You...not you. You shouldn't risk that. You have the power to change things and go above and beyond what any ordinary person could be. I don't belong in that life." She took a step back and shook her head. "We're worlds apart. I don't believe that can ever change. I..." her voice trailed off into silence once more. "I was born the son of a injured bandit and some farmer's daughter from Ordon. As a child, my mother was a waitress and my father worked as an apprentice to a blacksmith. I was born as a commoner who used to terrorize Castle Town with a stolen knife my dad made. I became a guard, a lowly guard... and even after everything I don't think that a title means a thing about me. Being knighted, called sir, becoming a general that's not who I will ever be. I'm just Jake." All he could do was smile. Honestly Lucia was being pushed far outside her safety zone. Same was true for Jake though. "And don't sell yourself short Lucia... you are anything but ordinary. You deserve far more than this world and if you'll stay with me... I'm sure we can change that for everyone." As Jake got closer he put his arms around Lucia. His entire body shook for a moment, if he was miss reading this situation he was probably about to get a broken jaw. Hopefully that wasn't going to happen but just in case Jake muttered "Please don't hit me" as he got closer. After taking in one last breath, he leaned forward and pulled Lucia closer. A kiss, such a simple thing... but so terrifying all the same. Meanwhile the focus of the scene changed. "Just kiss dammit!" Austin said to himself as he looked through his high inn room window through a pair of binoculars. "Come on..confess your feelings." He whispered again. "What do you got, Toc?" Austin asked telepathically. "Something about them not being able to be together because of politics, or Lucia thinks she doesn't deserve them. Oh, I think Jake just popped the question! Oh Lucia said she likes him. It's official..I think." Toc responded telepathically. "Oh Toc, I love your hearing." Austin responded telepathically. "Yes! YES YES YES!" Austin said to himself as Jake moved in on Lucia. "Jake, you..." Lucia shuddered in anxiety as Jake put his arms around her, pulling her in for a kiss. She gently put her arms around him and slowly accepted it without a fuss, leaning against his large frame for support as her knees began to give away. No matter how she spun it, this was what she had always wanted - someone kind enough to accept her and strong enough to help her shoulder her responsibilities. "Then I'll follow you until the end," whispered Lucia as the two of them broke away. She rested her head on his shoulder and stood in silence, contemplating her decision. At the moment, it was the best choice she had made throughout the eighteen years she had been alive. In the moments after the first kiss, the entire world seemed to come to a stop. Maybe it had always been this way? Maybe when something important happened the rest of the world really did just fade into the background but it was the first time that Jake had ever seen it happen. It was as if they weren't standing in the streets of the Hidden Shiekah Village anymore, but just in a darkened world where only the two of them existed. As Lucia's head met his shoulder, she could feel the warmth of the metal and might even be able to hear Jake's heart beat. Then again it might have just been that he could feel his heart about to explode right now that might also explain it. At this point, Jake was pretty sure that his entire body was bright red from the top of his head to his toes. Even though it was doubtful that this was either of their firsts, it really was something special. Slowly Jake brought one of his hands up and caressed Lucia's face with his steel covered fingers. More than anything right now he wished he was out of this armor but beggars couldn't be choosers. The general just leaned in, his words barely more than a whisper. "I don't want you to follow me... I want you to come with me. No matter what happens next I'll always want you by my side." Oh my, this is quite romantic..that look on her face is just charming. You can tell she`s very happy right now. Kind of like your first... Toc said telepathically. "Only Emily came on to me" Austin said with a laugh back to his bird. "They do look really cute together though, I'll have to admit." Austin said with a happy smile at the two. "I'm just glad they finally decided to just be together." You're right, if Jake didn't make his move at that moment, Lucia would probably feel devoid for awhile...but eventually a man would find her, if she really did stay in Kakariko. "Oh Toc, love has its ways...but you may be right. With an intelligent, strong, pretty girl like Lucia running around, I’m more surprised she wasn't with anyone." Austin said, he was very excited right now...He just needed a way to release that excitement. "Are you watching O goddesses? The three golden ones..Please, share good fortune upon these two and may they never part. Even in the land of the dead they must be together, for that bond they have is something special, and if you were to sever it, the whole world would be at a lost." Austin said in a poetic, chanting voice. As the two held each-other he couldn't help but grin. "They do deserve each other, they both finally have someone to lean on when they are hurt…and to hold affectionately. Now that they have this bind, will there power grow? Will Jake become a happier person? Will Lucia finally show us her playful side more...I can only hope. My friends, I hold you dear." He finished with grace. Feeling poetic Austin? That was a pretty moving chant. Toc said after Austin finished his speech. "I think so, yes...They truly are amazing people. They were like a muse, they just gave me divine inspiration. So then, do you think that was Jake or Lucia's first kiss? Both were elegant, so I would be surprised if it was a first." Austin said flipping his childhood stopwatch open and closing it playfully, The music from it echoing each time. Maybe...I really don't know. As far as kissing go, asking a bird is rather silly of you Austin. We're not much for romance after-all. Toc said with a shake of her head to Austin. "Even so..Love has its ways." Austin said standing up. I can help this scene though Toc whispered to her master. She shred rose pedals in her talons and stacked them near her, making a good sized pile of fresh, red pedals. She gathered them within and flew overhead Jake and Lucia, dropping the pedals so they would fall within a 4 foot diameter of the two. Just as they began to fall, Austin exited the inn, to see the two being showered..it was quite the scene. Thank you Toc, you really are a romance worker. Austin said in his mind to Toc, In that moment, Toc's pedals began falling down around the two of them. They seemed to stay floating in air thanks to the heat coming from the couple. The flowers seemed to spin and float up like a balloon barely tethered to the earth. It really was a beautiful scene, but it would end sooner or later. Probably about the time that Lucia made note of the fact that the Shiekah (the peeping toms that they were) had all begun to sit down and they had about 30 crimson eyes glued to them almost as if they were waiting to see the two start going at it in the middle of the street. Not to mention the fact that both of them could likely sense Toc in the air and Austin staring at them from the distance. But for that glistening moment, everything had been perfect." |

coughREBOOTcough Really, it was a good read. Made me smile, too. Do you remember how long ago this was? It had to have been at least four years ago. |

2010 to 2011 I believe. So that would make it almost three years ago now. |

I miss this so much. We never really got to finish our adventure as the Red Wings. But, yes, this was a very grand moment indeed. |

I recently re-read Veil of the Malfested and it made me miss it so much more. We had a lot of fun in that and I think it brought out the best in a lot of us when it comes to RPing.

A lot of that brings me back to some of my worst characters (Oh CoH, you). But, that was the RP to REALLY spark my interest in writing, and I wouldn't be where I am in terms of skill and career goal if it wasn't for my weeaboo try-hard characters. Those were the days. |

I miss it a lot, too, Sin. We never got to finish the story between Elise and Dawn. I never got to see how it ended with Nicholas and Dawn, either. Veil ranks in one of my favorite three roleplays. The best experiences I've had in Role Playing was: Fire Emblem, Dawn of the Silver Age (NT's first FE RP, where I bonded with Winters and Green a lot, and made much more sophisticated characters.) Chronicles of Hyrule (Which will always be one of my favorites because it was the first time I'd ever written before. My characters were horrible, though.) Veil of the Malfested. (Was finally able to use Dawn, and greatly enjoyed her as a character, and the interactions she had with the others...well, namely Nicholas and Elise.) Dawn was probably my favorite character overall, but...I don't know, I really like Russell from the Fire Emblem RP. That suicidal, reckless, often times clueless, little bastard. I miss seeing Shade around here, too. He was one of the people who I'd always read his posts, because of the high quality in his writing. I wonder what ever happened to him. |

And, Sin, I'd say that Veil was probably the highlight of my writing. It was the third RP that I was in to last for a very long time, with the exclusion of Onime's "Tales of" RP, where I was all over the place with Basuro. |

I have to agree, it was a lot of fun in all of those RPs. We really should try another storyline like that to reconnect with what really brought out the best in our characters. |

My own nostalgia will be something you guys won't know about unfortunately. However, similar to Sin, I've got a new project in mind once my Pokemon RP is finished. Well, Sin could launch hers at any time after her work, but I have a new idea in mind, but it won't happen anytime soon.

If we're talking about the future instead of the past, I'd say that the two long-staying RPs aren't going to finish anytime soon, and the two newer RPs are, uh. Dead. So, yeah. I'd say launching a new thing or two is fine. Though, doubt Pokemon would finish anytime soon. |
