Surprise? I've decided that I'm going to return to the roleplay-making business. We don't have too many people making roleplays, so it seems I'm going to have to come out of retirement. Due to the popularity of Pokemon X and Y, I thought that a Pokemon roleplay would be a good idea, although the suggestion first came from Garm.

This roleplay will take place in a made-up region. The story in this roleplay will start at the end of the storyline of X and Y. The Pokemon in this roleplay will span from the first generation to the latest generation. Roleplayers will take the role of trainers who are just beginning their journey. When the trainer reaches the Pokemon Lab, he or she will be given a starter Pokemon based on the starter Pokemon of the main games. They are: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie.

The battle system in this roleplay will be similar to the one in the anime. Therefore, it will mainly be trust-based. However, trainers can still train their Pokemon and enhance their durability, strength, and resistance in battle. However, there will be no stats in the roleplay. Pokemon can also learn new moves either through leveling up, TMs, HMs, or move tutors. When a Pokemon learns a new move through leveling up, please keep it within reason depending on how much training the Pokemon has. For example, a Fennekin that has been obtained recently from the lab should not be able to learn moves such as Fire Blast so quickly.

The same goes for evolution. Pokemon can evolve in the roleplay, but it should be within reason. Again, with the Fennekin example. It shouldn't be able to evolve Braixen in such a short duration.

Although trainers don't necessarily need to take the path to become a Pokemon champion, trainers will find gyms throughout the region. As for the Pokemon League, trainers will be expected to obtain all eight badges if they want to participate. The Pokemon League will be similar to the ones in the anime. In other words, a tournament.

As for wild Pokemon, trainers will have the chance to catch them throughout the roleplay. There is no limit to how many Pokemon can be caught, although the number of Pokemon that can be brought at once remains at six. As we advance in the plot, the Pokemon that are encountered will be stronger.

All trainers will start with no items except for a Town Map. Furthermore, they will start with 1000 Pokemon Dollars. In the anime, there are trainers who happen to have Pokemon already prior to starting their journey. Because of this, roleplayers will be allowed to start with a Pokemon prior to receiving their starter. However, that Pokemon cannot be a starter Pokemon or any of its evolutions, a legendary Pokemon, or a Pokemon in its final evolution unless that Pokemon cannot normally evolve such as Lapras.

Mega Evolution will be in the roleplay, but we'll get to that later. As a result, no one can Mega Evolve their Pokemon early in the roleplay. Pokemon also traditionally has a crime syndicate, so roleplayers will eventually encounter the bad guys in the roleplay.

Do not fear if you lose a battle. It will not mean that your character is finished. The capabilities of Pokemon will be based on how much training they have and what their moves and abilities are. Training will be simple. One could for example have their Pokemon run laps. But training will be easier said than done. Having a Pokemon run a few laps will not result in the Pokemon being able to move a lot faster prior to the training. Their capabilities will gradually improve over time with training.

I may consider allowing a co-admin to work with me as well.

I suppose I'll join up. I think that it's time to go back in time to go retro with the whole thing. Let's see how a classical Red team would work out here! Charmander and Nidoran Male I choose you!

So I'm just going to hijack this topic for a suggestion that annoys me somewhat but I don't think anyone else really cares about xD

The current section for Pokemon signups is:

Name:
Nickname:
Gender:
Held Item:
Type:
Ability:
Move 1:
Move 2:
Move 3:
Move 4:

So for Abbie you'll have:

Name: Abra
Nickname: Abbie
Gender: Female
Held Item: Nothing
Type: Psychic
Ability: Magic Guard
Move 1: Teleport
Move 2: Hidden Power (Fighting)
Move 3:
Move 4:

Which to me at least feels very clunky. Lots of unnecessary information that's just intuitive for anyone who's played the games/can easily look it up on the internet. In Pokemon communities and such people have made another way of describing the Pokemon/storing them as data which I feel is just a lot clearer and better looking. Basically that setup is:

[Nickname] ([Pokemon name]) ([Gender]) @ [Item]
Ability: [Ability]
EVs: [EVs]
[Nature] Nature
- [Move 1]
- [Move 2]
- [Move 3]
- [Move 4]

Naturally things like EVs would be omitted. But basically I don't see the need to write things like typing, and explicitly stating "move 1" and "move 2". An example would be, for Abbie:

Abbie (Abra) (F)
Ability: Magic Guard
- Teleport
- Hidden Power (Ground)

Same information, much easier to read and more compact. If I wanted to use say, a Dialga named DRAGINZ with a Lustrous Orb that knows Roar of Time, Tail Whip, Draco Meteor and Hyper Beam, the current signup has me call it:

Name: Dialga
Nickname: DRAGINZ
Gender: Unknown
Held Item: Lustrous Orb
Type: Steel/Dragon
Ability: Pressure
Move 1: Roar of Time
Move 2: Tail Whip
Move 3: Draco Meteor
Move 4: Hyper Beam

Whereas the standardised system cuts it down to:

DRAGINZ (Dialga) @ Lustrous Orb
Ability: Pressure
- Roar of Time
- Tail Whip
- Draco Meteor
- Hyper Beam

Which is so much simpler and clearer IMO. So yeah. Since I don't think many people have done many Pokemon I thought I may as well propose this now.

As I said in the cBox I'm gone til Friday so if someone's going to control Jason + Abbie + Daddy, notes:

Abbie's naturally gonna play evasively. Focusing on dodging and staying out of range for Tackles with Teleport. Landing Hidden Power [Fighting] from range to make sure there's no chance of counterattack. Also note that she's naturally quiet and isn't going to make much sound.

Jason's commands are gonna be a lot more aggressive. Note that he doesn't know the attack is Hidden Power so he'll probably just tell Abbie to attack or something. Their different strategies clash, and yeah. Abbie may or may not listen to Jason's commands, depending on how a good mood she is or whatever.

Meanwhile Jason's dad's probably going to keep up an analysis of the battle with Professor Yew. Broad typing, statistical information, over whatever's happening.

Don't see the RP getting too much further until I'm back, so yeah. That's what'll probably happen on my side.

Anyways, I've decide that we can all go with DS' suggestions since everyone who voiced their opinion seems to like it.
