In this RP, music is power. Because of this, music is also forbidden by any means possible, if anyone so much as whistles they get in deep shit. Music was banned over 500 years prior to this RP. Our characters, or most of them, will be musicians. We will all be capable of playing music, and because of that, we will pretty much be outlaws. The way our characters learned music/got their instruments is either from some kind of scripture or something like that, or it was passed down from someone before them. Music is powerful in the sense that when music is played, it basically does magical things. (I.E. if someone played a riff on a guitar they would shoot some kind of lazer or something.) There are different classes/levels of being a musician, but the best one, the most powerful, is the Lead. Leads can summon Idols with their music. Idols are basically ethereal versions of ancient musicians who were incredibly powerful. When a Lead summons them, they aid that Lead and their allies in battle. There is only one Lead per genre of music, and a Lead is the best player of that genre alive. So basically, our characters are trying to stay away from the society that wants to trap away all musicians. The power of your instrument/music is based upon what kind of music you're playing. The LEVELS (Skill) of Musicians is as follows. Beginner->Professional->Star->Lead->Legend Beginners are of course the very beginning level. Our characters may or may not start here. Professional is more or less the basic level where any characters who don't start at Beginner will start. Stars are as powerful as a Musician can get without being the Lead. Leads were explained in the first paragraph. Legends are the deceased Musicians that were super powerful in their life. Legends are the Idols that are summoned by Leads, and there can be multiple per genre. The Classes of this RP are too numerous to list, but think of classes in the sense of Vocalists, Rhythm, Backup, things like that. Note: Backup Musicians do all kinds of aiding their team. Note: There is a special class called Listeners. Listeners have very rare devices called Playbacks that can record and store songs to themselves that are played by Musicians. The Playback can only record songs that were played with the sole intent of being recorded to that Playback. Playbacks can only store a couple of songs at a time. Listeners will receive some kind of buff depending on what kind of music they're listening to and what power that music has when it's really played. So basically, our characters are trying to stay away from the society that wants to trap away all musicians. The power of your instrument/music is based upon what kind of music you're playing. Once a character plays or learns a certain genre on an instrument, that is the only genre they can play on said instrument. Any instrument that exists or has ever existed can be used in this RP, excluding electronic music things like Dubstep and Techno. (So basically, no synthesizers/things like that.) Takes place in modern day, except things are greatly influenced by Music, so you might see buildings in the shape of instruments or a place will be named after some kind of musical thing. There are things called Musical Accessories (MA's) that are incredibly rare to find. Things like amplifiers, power cables to plug in electric instruments, microphones, etc. If you have an electrical instrument, it doesn't need to be plugged in to word, but if you find a way to get the equipment to plug it in, your enemies are going to have a much, MUCH harder time dealing with you. Everything is just about modern day technology, but like I said, with the influence of Music more heavily than in our world. The only races around are humans and of course animals and such. The world this will take place in is BASICALLY Earth, but things will be re-named and stuff. Geographically, the world this takes place on is identical Earth. Society has changed drastically due to the power of music. Like I said earlier, architectural changes/influence, everything is named after some kind of music or something related to music. The economy is about the same as ours, except add in the secret trade of musical instruments and the like. The government is basically the same as well, but like I said, everything related to music is forbidden and will result in deep punishment. I would appreciate it if you post your questions below, and I'll answer them. Character Sheet Name: Age: Gender: Appearance: (What's your character look like? Pictures are acceptable) Background: (Explain your character's life prior to the RP.) Instrument Type: (What kind of instrument does your character play?) Instrument Appearance: (What does your instrument look like?) Powers: (Describe what exactly your instrument does.) Misc. Details: (Put any other details about your instrument or their powers here.) Genre: (What genre of music does your character perform? Remember that this genre includes all subgenres.) Class: (What class is your character?) Level: (What skill level do you want your Musician to start the RP at? If the RP is just starting, must be Beginner) Other: Edited by HTD, September 28, 2013, 9:31 pm.

Is music forbidden outright, or are only certain people allowed to play it--for instance, does the government control the production and distribution of music? Do they use it in special military forces and keep the common people from using it so as to prevent anyone being able to challenge their authority? If music has been forbidden for so long, why are so many buildings and things themed after it? What gives the music its power? This might be plot related, and if it is just say so, but what is it fueled by and how does it work? Are the instruments used as weapons directly, or more like casting materials in that they only serve to amplify/produce power? Can singing bestow any kind of power? Could the power of sound/vibrations/music whatever makes music so special be used in conjunction with weapons somehow? What kind of weapons are available in the RP aside from instruments? How has the usage of music as a weapon effected its aesthetics? Do things like martial arts based on non-musical combat still exist? Has music been integrated with technology in any way, such as maybe like, playing keyboards instead of tapping on them to operate computers? I'm trying to think of more questions but failing at the moment, I'll let you know if any more come up. |

Music is 100% forbidden. Military forces (if any) use guns. Pretty much just normal guns like you'd think of today. I never said that like ALL KINDS OF BUILDINGS are built after musical stuff. You just might see that kind of thing. Could be something like...The building's been there forever, or it's some kind of tradition, or the person wants to be edgy, or whatever. It's just a big part of history. You feel me?
This is sorta a plot point, so I can't get that much into it. All I'll say is it has to do with expression. However, they work pretty much however you please. I'm sure most will be magical and whatnot, but the power of an instrument is determined by various factors (I.E. The musician, the genre the play, what class they're in, etc.) so I can't give a blanket statement for what kind of power they have aside from 'pretty much anything provided it makes sense to the character.' Like there could be a character who plays Electric Guitar and his genre is Rock. So it's very possible that when he plays his guitar as a weapon that he can be casting fire-y spells or dropping meteors. It's also possible that his musical ability allowed him to play songs that morphed his guitar into different like swords or something. It seriously all depends on the character and the player. There's tons and tons of possibilities.
There are pretty much whatever weapons you could think of. There are guns and whatnot. There are like...swords and all that kind of stuff if that's you or your character's cup of tea, though those MIGHT be inefficient. If you take a look at the answer to the last question as for the 'could it be used in conjunction' thing. The aesthetics of an instrument are determined by pretty much nothing other than the wielder of the instrument, so that just depends.
Uh, yeah. Martial arts still exist. It's not like because music isn't allowed that the entire world is a dystopia. And why would you play a keyboard instead of tapping on them? Why would that be a thing? MUSIC IS NOT ALLOWED ANYWHERE. If I didn't answer anything or you're still unclear, just keep asking. |

Can I have a sword that has a flute as the hilt? AND CAN IT SUMMON A GIANT DRAGON ROBOT OUT OF THE OCEAN? No but seriously can I have the flute sword and by playing music the vibrations travel through the blade to make it do stuff? |

If music is high treason, then why are things greatly influenced after music? If I've no experience with playing music and the like, how could I effectively describe what a person playing an instrument is doing? |

If you look a few posts up, you'll find I answered pretty much the same thing to Onime. However, this second part is very important as a couple people have asked me. IN THE BEGINNING OF THE RP, ALL OF THE CHARACTERS ARE NORMAL PEOPLE. THEY HAVE NO PREVIOUS INVOLVEMENT IN MUSIC. THEY ARE ALL SWEPT UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND ARE GIVEN INSTRUMENTS. THE REASON FOR WHICH I CANNOT DISCLOSE BECAUSE OF SPOILERS. As for your own personal lack of music experience, you can do a few things. You can just sort of...describe what they're doing as best as you can "He played a drumbeat on his jimbe fast enough to inspire the hearts of men." or whatever, OR. OR. OR. If you want to do some extracurricular activities, you can find a Youtube video of a song or music (whether it's just your instrument or it's a song played by a whole band but it contains your instrument-provided you point out what instrument to listen for) that sounds like what you would want your character to be playing at the time. That works. You can get creative with that.
I was like "That's kind of...in Power Rangers." but then I realized you were 100% going for that. And yeah absolutely. You could do something like that. Just remember- It needs to make sense with your character and what instrument/genre they play. |

Singing is veryveryvery powerful. Any instrument (please don't try to be silly just to be a jerk) is magical. |
