I'll be your Undertaker this evening
You received a text message, and with a practiced swipe of the finger upon the screen of your touch phone, you read what appeared.

"Do you choose to fight fate? Or will you throw the dice, and have it chosen for you?"

You didn't recognize the number, and the message made little sense. Perhaps you replied. Perhaps you didn't. But when you returned to the home screen, a new App had appeared. A black icon with a red, twenty sided die sat on your screen, bouncing up and down as if waiting for you to tap it. And when you did...

The screen goes black. Text begins to scroll.

DIE
Demons In Engagement

A die, the same as the icon, appears in 3d, filling up the screen. At the top, instructions read "tap to roll."

Will you fight fate? Or roll the dice, and let it be chosen for you?

A SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI INSPIRED RP

This RP draws from the SMT and Persona series of video games. In these games, players gain the ability to tame and summon demons, mythological figures, and other fantasy creatures to life to fight their battles. However, in this RP, there will be a twist to allow characters who enjoy getting into the fray on their own to take that route. The story is as follows:

In the city of Megido, a mysterious text message spreads from smartphone to smartphone, confusing everyone who receives it. Upon exiting the message, a new app has been installed on their phone. The DIE App is a fusion of the Demon Summoning Program of SMT and a few other features which change depending on what route players choose to play. When the dice are rolled, strange events begin to occur, and Megido is soon isolated from the rest of the world and its inhabitants left to fend for themselves. What ensues next is a struggle for basic survival, against monsters as well as your fellow man, and a fight against destiny itself.

Will you seek the power to reshape the world as you see fit, or join the side of another? Will you return the world to the way it was, or thrive in this new hell on earth? All these choices and more are up to you.

Let's Survive.

GAMEPLAY

In this RP, Players will be able to choose between four Races:

  • Humans
Humans are, well, regular people. However, the Human race has the ability to use the Demon Summoning Program, the Harmonizer, and the Distributor.

    • Demon Summoning Program
This program allows a Human to summon Demons for use in combat. Only Humans can use this program. Only Demons can be summoned--Changed Humans can not be tamed or contracted.
    • Harmonizer
This program allows a Human to survive bouts with demons by synchronizing their energy wavelengths. It has two subroutines, the Skill Crack and the Magnetite Meter. Skill Crack allows a Human to copy a skill from a demon they have defeated, and the Magnetite Meter allows them to copy any skill that has been Cracked onto a Demon when the meter is full.
    • Distributor
This program allows a Human to give some of their own energy to their demons. When a Human levels up, they may choose to distribute Stat Points to their Demons as well as themselves, to make their demons stronger.

  • Changed Human - Demon
Humans who have chosen to undergo the transformation of Megido and chosen the route of the Demon will find their bodies changing physically in a variety of ways. Some Demons may look like slightly modified humans while others will look like complete monsters. It all depends on the individual. Demon Humans have Strength, Gluttony, and Evolution as their skills.

    • Strength
Demon Humans are the physically strongest Race, though they are the weakest at magic, being only slightly above humans.
    • Gluttony
Demon Humans can devour their enemies in order to regain health. Enemies devoured by Evolution cannot be used in this manner.
    • Evolution
Demon Humans can devour their enemies in order to gain more power. Enemies devoured by Gluttony cannot be used in this manner.

  • Changed Human - Angel
Humans who have chosen to undergo the transformation of Megido and chosen the route of the Angel will find their bodies changing in a variety of ways. Some will simply look like modified humans, while others take the form of deity-like figures. It all depends on the Individual. Angel Humans have Magic, Sacrifice, and Healing as their skills.

    • Magic
Angel Humans have the strongest Magic of any race, though their physical strength is only slightly better than a human's.
    • Sacrifice
Angel Humans can Sacrifice part of their own health for a temporary increase in power.
    • Healing
Angel Humans will regenerate wounds over time for as long as they have magic power. Larger wounds require more energy.

  • Changed Humans - Demi-Fiend
Humans who have chosen to undergo the transformation of Megido and chosen the route of the Demi-fiend will find their bodies changing in a variety of ways. Some will simply look like modified humans, while others take the form of strange creatures. It all depends on the Individual. Demi-Fiends have Balance, Gluttony, and Sacrifice as their race skills.

    • Balance
Demi-Fiends are the most balanced Race. They are stronger than humans and Angels, but not as strong as Demons. They are more magical than Demons and Humans, but not as much as angels.
    • Gluttony
Demi-Fiends can devour enemies to regain health.
    • Sacrifice
Demi-Fiends can sacrifice part of their own health for a temporary increase in power.

A CONDITION
As some of you know, I've been working on a Dice Based System to work with this RP. HOWEVER, given our recent lack of activity and the fact that the system is a little difficult to learn, I am going to give everyone a chance to play this RP in one of three ways: With the system, without any stats, and with some stats but not the system. Basically you can choose between "normal" style RPs, where only the honor system is in place, Sin's style of RPs where stats are used as general comparisons, or my style, with the dice based system.

BUT THERE IS ONE CONDITION

We will ONLY play using the selected method IF EVERY PLAYER can play FAIRLY and COMMUNICATE with other players and TAKE INITIATIVE.

There will not be any autohitting, always-autododging, powerplaying, or Mary Suing/Gary Stuing bullshit.

Players will make a concentrated effort to communicate with each other about fights, interactions, and other things so that nobody gets super pissed and problems are kept to a minimum.

The admin won't have to hold everyone's goddamned hand once the Introduction is over. When the Maps and Quests and whatever bullshit appears, players can, for the most part, do their own thing unless they actually NEED the admin to step in.

If people can't abide by these rules, then the condition is broken and the RP will immediately begin using the Dice Based System, and if you don't like it you can just cry me a freakin' river because I'm tired of one or two people making an RP dumb for everyone else.

So, with all this said, comments questions and all that stuff.

Nice seeing my 4 options coming back. All in all, not bad. I have some suggestions about further differentiation of the 4 'classes' present in the narrative if you would like to hear it but otherwise I'm interested and ready. I always enjoy a little SMT adventure and this place could use the activity.

What are your suggestions? I had a little trouble trying to figure out how to make them balanced and they still may be a little skewed.

1: if you choose a non-hume route, what determines who you will be?

2: do non-humes have strengths and weaknesses ala Persona?

3: how are skills earned and what is the maximum number you can have?

1: if you choose a non-hume route, what determines who you will be?

2: do non-humes have strengths and weaknesses ala Persona?

3: how are skills earned and what is the maximum number you can have?
1. Whatever you chose. The transformation that occurs over all of Megido will effect characters at the same time, and depending on the individual they will change. Whatever you want to become is what you'll become. However, for story purposes, it's explained as their "inner nature" coming to light; people who are generally good hearted individuals will probably become angels. People who have a mean streak or anger issues might become Demi-Fiends. And people who desire power over all else, who are greedy or maybe even downright evil, will become demons. Only people who don't want to change themselves won't--those who are satisfied with who they are, or who maybe don't want to sacrifice part of themselves even though they want to become stronger--will remain human if their will is strong enough.

2. Yes. We'll get more into how strengths and weaknesses will work when it's decided what stat system--if any--we're using.

3. For Humans, skills can be earned via both leveling up AND the Magnetite Meter. For everyone else, you'll either have to level up or perform Fusion, which will also be explained in depth once it's decided what system we're on. However, at the start I was only going to allow characters to begin with 1 Skill, which they can choose out of a tier list of skills. The maximum number will increase as we go along.
