Okay so the other day I was talking with Twi and had this silly idea for a mini RP, and then decided it would be great with lots of people. Basically, everyone who participates PMs me their character signups. I randomly assign the characters to the different participants, then pick a random situation ("you must all navigate this dungeon to defeat this dragon!" or something similar, unless people would like a more ambitious storyline) and yeah. Basically, a fun, short little thing where you see how well you can write other people's characters. I can probably get this running within a couple of days if people are interested, so yeah. Post/vote please! And if you vote depends, both! Basically, in this mini RP, you'll be writing a character that someone else designed. Edited by Dreaming Sun, July 26, 2013, 9:00 am.

That is most certainly not my thing. I work VERY hard on my characters and don't want someone else using them. >_< |

Sounds very silly. Could be good, but could also lead to excessive butthurt. |

Well from the sound of it, it's a short RP so character personality wouldn't go too far to develop. |

I guess my question is, does the person getting assigned the character have to stick with the author's original personality/ideas or does he/she make that character his/her own? Like say I submitted Zephyr, a hedonistic (I seek pleasure, avoid pain and love to experience all the world has to offer) bard to this RP and the person who gets it is... Matt. Matt has always played heroic characters and the idea of a "that could hurt me, I'll let it kill that family over there since it won't help me any" sort of playstyle would likely drive him mad. Would Matt need to stick with my original idea of Zephyr as a 'I only do what helps me and only if it feels good/doesn't hurt me to do it' personality or would he have the right to make Zephyr become more "heroic" and break away from my original character idea? |

The thing is, character signups never eclipse the entirety of a character's personalities and nuances. If this goes through, I'll probably enforce some sort of character limit on signup length so the person who received the character isn't entirely forced into everything about him or her. Anyway, the main thing that I feel would be interesting to see is how your own characters can be explored into different directions from what you initially expected them to. I'm sure many people would have reused characters in a couple of different RPs, and saw how maybe, the characters seemed to drift in an unexpected direction due to the change? I felt it would sort of be like that; the general outline and backstory of a character you've written, with the specific nuances and end result of them being ironed out by someone else who will have to write up the character. So, taking the example of Zephyr, his hedonism would be a key trait, so yes, Matt would have to write him as such (not that there's much of a problem with that regardless; new experiences for the writer, trying characters they wouldn't have had to otherwise and hey they might be fun). However, once all the key traits are put into that character, Matt has the freedom to explore the character within his own comfort zone, and from the perspective that he writes characters from. So, he might make Zephyr develop into a caring, heroic person, exploring what it would take for such a person to undergo such a drastic change. On the other hand, Matt might write him primarily as a foil to some of the other heroic characters he writes, emphasising the differences in actions this character would make to one of his own. |

Best to sleep on it.

I mean, I guess it could work as an extremely short RP. Be extremely funny to force someone else to RP as someone they're not used to. |
